And welcome to Comic Relief Does Glee Club,

and the very exciting studio heats.

We have searched high and low, far and wide,

for Britain's top young performers.

And it's all to support Red Nose Day.

Today, three acts will battle it out for those all-important positions

on the Glee Club leaderboard.

And if they want to make it to the finals,

they're going to have to be on top of their game

to impress our judges and score as many points as possible.

But before all that, let's meet a woman who has

so many strings to her bow she could form her own orchestra.

Please go wild for Naomi Wilkinson.

So, Naomi, now you... you've presented many, many shows,

the most romantic being Marrying Mum And Dad, obviously.

It is. It's really romantic. It's a lot of fun.

The kids organise the whole wedding.

Actually, speaking of weddings, if you two were wedding planners,

what would your ideal wedding be like?

-Well, probably...

-Oh, I don't know. I don't know.

I'd probably have a stately home. I'd probably have a stately home.

I'd have a big cake. Not five, no, not five layers - ten layers.

Ten layers on my cake. Then I'd have a horse and carriage.

No, I'd probably have five horse and carriages, actually.

Probably have a dove fly the ring over to the groom, the bride

and groom. No, that's silly. Not a dove. Probably have a unicorn.

That's a brilliant idea. I really like it.

Oh, yes.

Right, if you would like to make your way over to your seats.

Whilst they do that, let's find out a little bit more

about our pitch-perfect professionals.

They are the top coaches in the industry.

Today, let's find out more about head judge Carrie.

I started my career as a dancer. I then became a singer.

I then became a coach.

When you are looking at a performance,

to be able to critique on all those levels is really important.

I want people at home to be thinking,

"That was so inspiring, I want to start singing."

Ah!

-So, so talented.

-What, the judges?

-I was talking about us, but, yeah, all right.

-Good one.

Now for the important bit.

15 groups have made it through to the heats.

Today, three of those acts will battle it out for our experts

who will be scoring them on vocal ability, creativity and performance.

All four judges will be giving marks out of ten for each

of the disciplines, so there are plenty of points to be won.

And in the unlikely event of a tie,

head judge Carrie will decide who gets the medals. Thanks, Carrie.

The acts with the top five scores across the heats will then

compete in the live finals, where it will be up to YOU at home

to vote for your favourite!

And the winners will take home this fantastic

OK, let's find out how Naomi and the groups are getting on backstage.

Thank you very much, Sam and Mark.

Yes, I am here backstage with our three clubs today.

We've got Musicality, New Creation and Encore.

Now, Musicality, I have read that you have rehearsed in some pretty

unusual places. What is the most odd?

Sometimes in the hotel,

we go in the bedroom and shove the beds to the wall,

just to get as much space as we can.

Sounds like a good plan.

Luke, you are the only boy out of all of these clubs. Do you mind?

Well, I do kind of mind that I'm the only boy.

But that makes you ultra special. And you are going to stand out.

And you have got a really cool technique for learning

-your lines, haven't you?

-I do.

I stick them to the ceiling in my bedroom, and then every morning when

I wake up I see my lines and I grab them down and start reading them.

Just helps it go in your head. That sounds like a great plan.

Talking of nifty techniques, over to you, New Creation.

You've got some cool ways of getting rid of your nerves, haven't you?

Well, we just go crazy for five seconds, and then you stop.

That's just gets rid of the nerves.

-We've all got to go crazy?

-Yeah.

I can feel the nervous energy in this room,

so I think we should all go crazy for five seconds.

Everyone up for it? ALL: Yes!

Let's have a bit of space. Ready? After three.

Three, two, one, go crazy!

Oh, and we've broken the set. Fantastic.

You just prop it up in the background. That's it.

No, Encore, what is this I hear about one particular item of clothing?

-The onesies.

-You are mad about the onesies.

Our set is just knocking out all of the other teams.

Did you do that on purpose?

Did you set that up to try and take out the other clubs?

THEY LAUGH

So you love the onesie. Why do you love the onesie?

They are so comfy and so warm.

We just wear them all the time, don't we?

-Didn't fancy wearing it for your performance today, though?

-No.

Well, all our groups arrived in Glasgow yesterday for the first time.

But let's find out, have they all become BFFs or CRRs?

Comic Relief Rivals.

When Musicality, Encore and New Creation all met,

the chat was soon in full flow.

ALL: We are New Creation, and we are from Preston.

ALL: We are Musicality and we are from Port Talbot. Oggy, oggy, oggy!

Oi, oi, oi!

-And...

-One.

-Two.

-Three.

-Four.

-ALL: We are called Encore.

-Five.

-Six.

-Seven.

-Eight. ALL: And we are from Harrogate.

But did they get on or did they end up climbing the walls?

As it turns out, it was a bit of both.

I love being able to come here because it feels less formal.

-It's nice to meet the other groups.

-Yeah, get to know them all.

It definitely makes it feel

a lot less competitive.

Yeah, definitely.

-You feel a lot more comfortable around the other groups.

-Yeah.

SHE GIGGLES ANDS SCREAMS

It seemed like all the Glee Clubs were already hitting the heights.

I think they are all really, really nice.

Yeah, because we don't know them much, but they seem really friendly.

As soon as they laugh with each other,

we laugh with each other, too.

That's how we get along.

It's nice making friends when you come to things like this.

I don't like to be the group that's on the side, not making friends.

-You do dancing as well, Anna?

-Anna.

-Our style is pop, isn't it?

-It's modern music.

At the train station, we started to sing

and people were like turning their heads, thinking it was a flash mob.

It was fun.

Sorry, I wanted to join in, that was so good.

That was absolutely brilliant. What a fantastic start.

Let's see what the judges thought.

Carrie, that is the first challenge song. Did the vocals do it for you?

Yeah. With this song, the vocals

and the performance are absolutely inextricably linked,

because the words of the song are so inspirational that you have

to be giving it loads of inner life.

And that has to connect with the singing.

So in terms of Musicality, I feel like you have upped your game

since the auditions.

I feel like you've come back, you look like a group now.

You have listened to what we said. Your singing was fantastic.

Beautiful harmonies. Loads of inner life. Really giving it some.

Well done.

For our second group, New Creation, what we loved about you

in the auditions is that you are just kind of cool and throwaway.

There was a lot of each person moving different ways.

I think, visually, you still need to be looking at what you're doing.

Vocally, still very strong.

Encore, I remember in the auditions, when I look at you, I think,

"Oh, yeah. These are the girls that did loads of dancing,"

so I was really impressed,

particularly with the first half of that number.

Vocals and harmonies coming through

and leaving all the dancing to the face.

All the inner life coming through, I loved it. Very well done.

APPLAUSE

David, were you entertained?

Yeah, but again, in three very different ways.

I feel like Musicality, they look like your mates.

They look kind of like, "Yeah, come on, let's give it a go!"

Then when they start performing, they're really locked,

they're unified, they are doing their own thing, but all together.

New Creation, I thought, again, you guys were entertaining.

But I could sense your nerves.

Halfway through it was like you were going, "Oh, let's do it anyway."

And then, you really started to come through.

But the first little part,

what I would say is similar to what I said when I saw you before.

You've got to realise how good you are, forget the nerves,

just give it everything. You've got one shot, go for it.

And I have to say, Encore, nice harmonies, again, it was nice

to see you not feeling as though you had to somehow

augment your performance with loads and loads of movement.

Your singing is really together, really unified and really strong.

APPLAUSE

John, which group stood out for you?

This round, look, all three have something special to give,

that's why you're here.

The reality is, for me, that performance,

what is it about you Welsh people?

It's like you've got music in your heart and soul. It just oozed.

I felt every word you were saying, so well done for that.

-And Sisco, were you impressed by our groups?

-Definitely.

I think with Musicality, you were more all rounded,

the performance, the vocals and the small bits of choreography you had

all marinated together, so it was really pleasant to watch, well done.

With New Creation,

some of you started the step clicks on the upbeat,

so it made you look quite awkward,

like you were doing stuff in opposite directions, you guys need

to be in your comfort zone, even if it's not your type of song.

Alter egos soon as you get on stage,

because you guys looked a bit intimidated by the song.

And I think you have got more to give. Encore, I love the vocals.

It's good to see a dancing group as well that can sing.

Some of the moves were a little harsh,

the choreography was a little unnecessarily full-out

for this song, but, you know, if you can dance, why not?

we last saw you. Do you feel like you are performing differently?

I think we are performing completely differently.

We have just grouped together and worked on our ensemble more

-and our soloists, obviously.

-Well, it is obviously paying off, well done.

Over to you. Hello. Are you feeling any more relaxed now?

David said halfway through that song,

you started to come to life. Are you feeling more relaxed now?

We really are confident, it's just a shame that it didn't come across,

we didn't come across as confident as we really are.

Because we really do enjoy it.

Yasmin, what are you going to pull out of the bag

for Round 2's song to wow the judges?

Well, vocals are definitely our strong point,

so hopefully we will wow the judges with that.

Do you want to do any more shaking out the nerves?

Yeah, you're right, they're good.

We absolutely loved it. It was so much fun.

All of the vocals together were really slick,

-and I think it was a great performance, well done.

You all look really different, you are all different ages,

which is great.

I kind of would like to see some uniformity somewhere in what

'So, how did Musicality get dressed for success this time round?'

I understood completely with the outfits.

We've decided to go for the colour purple, and denim.

-A bit.

Only a bit? I'd be terrified if I had to do that!

I think you're amazing!

-How are you feeling today?

-Really excited and nervous.

I'm really excited because not only will we

be able to perform in front of Carrie, David and Sisco,

but we'll be able to perform in front of the audience.

Because, like, I've always wanted to be on TV and it's my first time.

So I'm really excited about it.

in what you're doing vocally, loved your movement, hugely entertaining.

Everything was good enough. It was a complete performance.

The choreography was really good, I'm glad you injected

a bit of the original choreography in there as well.

While I first heard it, I was nervous because it's such a big song,

but you guys really did it justice, well done.

And finally, Carrie, do you see Musicality as a finalist?

Oh, definitely, they could get through.

I think it's hard, because each group is bringing something different today

so you have to judge it within their own range.

-And also look at what else we've got. But, yeah, definitely.

Now let's take a look at New Creation's journey to the heats.

'New Creation's sound has been highly praised

'since they first met John in Manchester.'

So, it's been an acoustic privilege for me, sounds really good.

'Carrie echoed those feelings when the group came to London.'

I close my eyes and I listen to the most fantastic sound.

# Cos she's gone

# In her shadow, is it me you see?

# Cos all that's left... #

'But she had a different reaction

'when it came to other parts of their performance.'

I opened my eyes, I see five really scared girls, that look like

they can't wait for it to be finished and the torture will be over.

-They said we all look really scared.

-Oh, right, OK!

So, that's what we've really tried to work on this time.

How do you do that? How do you not look scared onstage?

What we do is we do this thing where we just look in the mirror

and we go over the top. Then we do it really dull.

-Then we find a place in-between.

-OK. Sounds like a good technique!

What are you thinking about as you are singing?

Trying to look like we are enjoying ourselves, really. Just relax!

-Are you enjoying yourselves?

-Yeah.

-Yeah. Good.

John, what did you think of that performance?

This is what I see.

I mean, New Creation, this is why I chose you guys.

It's that sound. Your sound is incredible,

when you get it right and it's there and I felt the confidence.

You have this sound like that '80s girl band, Wilson Phillips.

I don't know if you ever heard of them.

There's something magical about that sound.

-They probably don't!

-We've not even heard of them, John!

Exactly! Well, look them up, you'll see.

-Ask your grandmother!

-Yeah, ask your grandmother.

But anyway, your sound is fantastic.

And that just gave me a few goose bumps.

-Very cool.

-APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

-Sisco, was that a confident performance?

-Do you know what?

I still think you guys are holding back.

I see insecurity and you shouldn't, because you guys are great singers.

And I can see that you guys love to perform.

And I like you guys cos you guys are so, like,

organic about your performance. But I just still need more.

OK. Carrie, did you think

that was the right song choice for their voices?

I think it was the perfect song choice for you guys. I loved it.

You don't have to be all out jazz hands, singing and dancing.

We don't want that from you. But just that kind of,

"I'm cool being this", you know? "I can be confident and cool."

Rather than, "Oh, please don't look at me, I'm slightly self-conscious!"

And it's just finding that balance. Once you find it,

-you guys are amazing.

David, did it all come together for you?

Here's what I want to say to you guys, OK.

If you go through, I want you to build on this and be this and more.

If you don't go through, I want you to stay together

and keep building on this,

because one day you're going to hear yourselves and see yourselves,

you're going to wake up to the fact that actually,

"I'm really good at this."

You are so much better than you know you are.

How do you feel about getting such nice comments about your singing?

Yeah, it's really lovely,

and we've worked so hard, so it's paid off, I think. Yet.

How was your confidence on the stage that time round?

I felt it was strong, it was stronger,

because we had that buzz of performing.

And it's just live, isn't it?

And there's only five of you, and yet you filled that stage.

Now, Yasmin, you've worn that hat for the last two rounds.

If you do get through to the next one, will you all wear hats?

Em, maybe. We might wear matching hats.

And their performance was enough for John to take them

to the judges' auditions in London.

I was in two minds about these guys.

But I see some potential in them. See what you guys think.

It feels to me that you are a dancing school who do some singing.

I think if you do get through to the next round,

we've got to hear more vocals.

With Carrie's advice ringing in their ears,

Sisco, Encore impressed us a lot with their dancing

back in the auditions - what did you make of that?

I love the fact you guys use the stage.

There was props, there's a lot of you, so I love it when someone

uses the stage in an intelligent manner, so well done for that.

One thing I am going to say is that you have to make sure that the

choreography fits your facility. I saw a few mistakes.

But, that aside, it's great that you guys have stamina,

that you guys are doing so much, choreographically,

with the formations and still vocally being able to keep it together.

So, well done for that.

APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

Carrie, did you like the arrangement?

Did I like the arrangement?

That's actually a really good question.

For me, the arrangement, I think, should have been more complex.

It felt very simple. There's eight of you,

there could have been a lot more complexity in the singing.

Loads of complex dancing, but we have told you before,

we need the singing to really be upped at this stage.

OK, David, do you reckon they've done enough to make it

through to the final?

Hard to tell, at this stage.

I think they could, actually, be there in the final. I don't know.

What I do know is this they came up, they actually,

even though they were going full-on with the dancing,

they gave 80% singing, which meant they weren't shouting,

they were really blending, and I really loved your ensemble sound.

APPLAUSE AND CHEERING

And, John, did you think that song suited Encore's style?

It most definitely did. You guys did it really well.

You danced well, I was there, I was there.

I was in the club. I was in the club.

So, for me, that was quite a good performance from you girls.

Well done.

Ultimately, there were some really good comments there,

they said some lovely things about your singing and your vocals.

Sisco was commenting on your dancing,

perhaps giving you some constructive feedback.

How did you feel about getting some great constructive feedback

from the dancer on our judging panel?

I think it's really good we've got some feedback,

so we can improve on it, so even if we don't get through,

we've still got those comments to remember. So we can...

What I want to know is, how do you keep your stamina up

so that you can dance like that and sing so well?

We practise, lots and lots. We just...

-Do you get special powers from those sparkly leggings?

-Maybe!

If you do, could I borrow some,

because I'd like to give them to Sam and Mark?

-Yeah, you can.

-Cool! Thank you very much.

I think today's performances have been really strong,

and may I just say, I think to be able to deliver in one minute, 30,

everything you've got, you can only be as good as that particular moment.

You think, "Ten minutes later I would have been so much better,"

but that's what you've given us today,

and you've all done really, really well.
