It's time for the time capsule!

A time capsule? What's that?

A time capsule is a container, tin or a box.

You put things in it and bury it for as long as you like.

Then you dig it up and see what you've buried.

Scrapboy and I had a really great time last summer

so we made a time capsule.

I better go and call Scrapboy and tell him it's time to dig it up.

Scrapboy, this is Dirtgirl. I have some exciting news. Over.

Hmm, well, it must be around here somewhere.

Wait! Scrapboy, you would never have buried something

without making a map of where to find it.

Here it is - a message from last summer, from you, Scrapboy,

telling us where to dig.

"Face the old tree.

"Take three big steps forward..." One, two, three.

"Two steps towards the fence..." One, two.

"Then dig."

Here it is.

Let's open it.

Wait, let's take it back to the veranda.

That way we can look at everything closely

and nothing will get lost.

But it's just a bunch of stuff.

Oh no, Grubby. This is really special stuff.

Stuff we sent ourselves from the past.

We buried these in our time capsule last summer

and now we've just dug it up.

Hey, look! It's my quartz crystal I found over by the pond.

This is the first scrapimal I ever made.

You see, it's not what you put inside that matters,

it's the memories that it brings back -

-things you have forgotten.

-It's a way of making your old stuff new.

Old stuff new again?

I like the sounds of that.

I want in on this time capsule thing.

-Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Calling all Greenthumbs.

I challenge you to make a time capsule.

A plastic tube with a screw-on end.

A newspaper.

A bag of seeds.

And even some letters can be locked safe inside for the future.

That's a great time capsule.

Just bury it and wait.

Nice work, Greenthumbs.

This is a bulb.

Bulbs are seeds.

And this bulb will grow into a daffodil.

I love daffodils with their sunny, yellow faces.

Daffodil bulbs are big seeds.

They need to be big

because they store all the food baby daffodils need to grow.

And bulbs take a long time to grow!

To plant a bulb, you make a hole in the dirt

and then pop the bulb in with the pointy bit pointing to the sky.

Then you cover it over with dirt

and wait until the ground warms up in the springtime.

And then, the daffodil plant pops out of the dirt and finally flowers.

Bulbs are a bit like time capsule.

Only, you don't dig them up. You wait until they come to you.

Some bulbs grow in to flowers like daffodils and tulips

and other bulbs grow into food like garlic.

Bulbs will grow by and by, plant them pointing to the sky!

The container needs to be waterproof and also easy to find.

We almost lost the last one!

I better figure this out or I won't have anything to put in.

Unless...

Hmm...If this went in to the time capsule

maybe I wouldn't have to do any stunts for a while.

Look, Scrapboy, my wind chimes and my party whistle.

Perfect!

It's a robot that'll dig itself out next summer.
