I know that sound. It can only mean one thing.

Bee!

It's OK, Ken, it's just a bee.

Bees can sting.

That's why you have to be careful around them.

But they're generally fine if you leave them alone.

I'd rather sniff all my dirty socks than be near a bee.

Don't be silly, bees are very important.

Plants in your garden need bees to be healthy.

Why?

Bees help plants make seeds, which make new plants.

They do all that? How?

Well...bees...

You know, I don't know.

But I know where we can find out.

Come on, Ken, it's time to follow that bee.

-You know, Ken, bees do something else for us too.

-They do?

Sure. Bees make honey.

Without honey bees, we wouldn't have any honey to eat.

No honey? Follow that bee! But keep a safe distance.

Calling all Greenthumbs -

I challenge you to make a terrarium garden.

A big glass jar makes a perfect terrarium.

You can put anything inside,

soil, plants, you can create your own mini world.

It's a container where you can grow plants. It's your garden.

My garden? Really? Wow.

Those plants will flower soon.

So no more sniffing my socks? Fantastic, I'm never going to leave.

Bee! get me out, get me out!

I can't be in the garden if a bee's going to be in there.

Don't worry, Ken, I'm sure we'll think of something.

There goes the bee! Come on!

-Hayman, have you seen a bee?

-Hay.

Oh, and do you know how bees help plants make new seeds?

You know what the bee was doing!

Sure. I don't like bees very much, but all grubs speak bee.

Of course, most bees are usually too busy to talk for very long,

always buzzing from one place to the next, this way and that.

Oh, Grubby, will you please ask how bees help plants make new seeds?

SHE BUZZES

Well, what a lovely bee.

Such a gentle bee.

What did he say?

Well, bees don't wear socks,

but what look like socks

is actually pollen the bees have picked up from the flowers.

Bees collect nectar and pollen,

which they use for food.

The pollen sticks to the bees' legs.

When a bee visits a new flower,

a little bit of pollen falls off its legs,

this helps the plant make a new seed.

which makes a new plant.

The whole process is called pollination.

Pollination.

Wow!

These honey bees use the nectar they collect to make honey.

Did you know that in a year

a colony of bees can eat an entire bathtub of honey?

That's a lot of honey.

There it goes. Now I know why they say, "Busy as a bee."

It just keeps going!

Bye, bee! Wow, bees sure are important.

Come on, Ken. All this talk of socks and bees

has given me a great idea for our next stunt.

This is my tiny garden.

I've made it out of things I found close by.

Stones, twigs and leaves...

Maybe the bees will come and have a cup of nectar tea here.

I think I'll add a spiral leafy room.

And a way in.

And some shady trees.

I think it needs a lookout.

Aw, with a slide!

Making tiny worlds in great fun.

You can make a world for bugs to play in.

A pirate ship sailing the sea.

Even a butterfly obstacle course!

Make a tiny place to play, where bugs can play all day.

FANFARE

Stunt time!

Gather round, gather round.

Today, our stunt-weevil Ken will be shot high into the air,

where he will fly like a bee,

before landing softly in the centre of that flower.

Put your hands together

as Ken answers the question we've all got on our minds -

with the To Be Or Not To Be A Bee stunt!

APPLAUSE

Do it.

I'm Ken the weevil. I'm a bee, a bee, a bee-vil.

Pull the safety cord, Ken!

Great work. Ken! That was our best stunt ever!

Bees are amazing.

They fly from flower to flower dropping off pollen,

which helps make new seeds...

which helps make new flowers!
