He's playing Explorers somewhere. He was pretending to be in the jungle.

Sounds fun. Why aren't you exploring with him?

I'm glad Hip is having fun exploring

but...I really want to play Hide And Seek.

Precious and Loopy! They both like playing Hide And Seek.

Hi, Precious! Hi, Loopy! That is a brilliant sandcastle.

Sand, sand! So much sand to explore in this desert.

Er, desert?

Hip is being an explorer so he's pretending your sandpit is a desert.

-But I want to play Hide And Seek, would you like to play?

-An explorer?

To the high mountain!

I have an idea. Why don't you three become trackers?

You can be explorers but you can play Hide And Seek at the same time.

-Trackers?

-Yes. You have to try and follow Hip without him knowing.

Come on, Twinkle. We'll be trackers too. It looks like fun.

I can see everywhere from the top of this high mountain.

He's got his binoculars! Quick, don't let him see us. Hide.

Oh, yes! Is there one about an explorer?

I know just the book. Is everybody settled down and ready to listen?

-I'm ready.

-Ready!

And all of you, sitting down comfy and ready to listen?

Yes, Dan!

Today's story is called Lucy Flies South, by Vanessa Amberleigh.

The pictures are by Ellie Foreman-Peck.

"Hurry up, Lucy! We don't want to be late flying south for the winter,"

shouted Toppy. "I can't wait to feel the warm sun on my feathers,"

said Lucy. "Then hurry up!" said Toppy.

"You know why you're always called Lucy Little Late?"

"Because I'm always a little late?" giggled Lucy.

Toppy raced off. But Lucy spotted a shiny shell

and sat and gazed at it for a while.

Then suddenly, "Oh! I'm meant to be flying south!" cried Lucy.

"I don't want to be late!" When she looked around, everyone had left.

Oh no! Poor Lucy, she's been left behind.

Let's see what happens, shall we?

Lucy knew if she flew very, very fast,

she could catch up with everyone.

So, she flew high up in the sky. This was going to be an adventure.

High over rivers and fields and trees.

"What's happening down there?" wondered Lucy.

And she swooped down to explore.

"Come and play with us!" called some squirrels.

Lucy had a lovely time with the squirrels.

Then suddenly... "Oh! I'm meant to be flying south," cried Lucy.

"I don't want to be late". High over lakes, mountains and sea.

"What's happening down there?" wondered Lucy

and she swooped down to explore.

"Come and swim with us!" called some dolphins.

Lucy had a lovely time, skimming above the waves with the dolphins.

Then suddenly... "Oh! I'm meant to be flying south," cried Lucy.

-"I don't want to be late!" High over desert and sandy dunes...

-A desert!

-I was exploring the desert today!

-So were we!

"What's happening down there?" wondered Lucy

and swooped down to explore.

"Come and hop with us!" called some lizards.

Lucy hopped and hopped with them, then suddenly...

"Oh! I'm meant to be flying south," cried Lucy,

"I don't want to be late." High over jungles and waterfalls.

"What's happening down there?" wondered Lucy.

She swooped down to explore.

As she landed, she heard cheering.

"It's Lucy Little Late!"

There were her friends, sitting in the sun.

Toppy raced up to her. "You're here!" he cried.

"Yes!" she laughed, "I'm sorry I'm a little late!"

-The end.

-Wow! Lucy is a brilliant explorer.

-Just like you, Hip.

-It's really hard to balance.

-Here comes Lucy!

-Everyone is here, but she's a little late.

Lucy explored lots of different places, just like we did.

She played lots of games. We played two games today -

-Explorers and Trackers.
