-Hello!

Oh, look at the kite we've just made, Driver Dan.

-Wow, that's a great kite.

-It was fun to make, wasn't it, Lilly?

Really fun to make, Milly!

I can't wait to fly it.

-Oh! It doesn't work.

-What's wrong, Driver Dan?

Why won't it fly?

Well, you need wind to fly a kite and there isn't enough today.

Oh. Maybe if we blow really hard, we can make it fly.

Good try, everyone. But you'll need a stronger wind to make it fly.

Oh, I know who'll be able to make a stronger wind for us!

-Oooh, who, Driver Dan?

-Who can help us?

You'll have to come on the Story Train with me to find out. Ready?

Oh, yes, Driver Dan.

-Are you ready too? Then let's go!

-We need to find the Vrooms.

-TWINKLE CHIRPS

What's Twinkle spotted? Is it them?

'Look, Driver Dan, over there! I can see their carriage.

'But where are the Vrooms? They're not there.'

Hmmm. I wonder where they are.

Let's go and see if we can find them, shall we?

Will the Vrooms be able to help us, Driver Dan?

-I think they will, Milly.

-Oh, they're not here.

We'll never be able to fly our kite now.

VROOMS BEEP

Up there! Look.

-Hello, Vrooms!

-Hello, you two. We were looking for you.

Please can you help us fly this kite?

-Oh, how can the Vrooms help us, Driver Dan?

-I'll show you.

-Now, Sweetie, you hold the string.

-OK, Driver Dan.

And Twinkle, can you take the kite up there?

-But we've tried this already!

-Yes, and it didn't work!

A-ha, but we didn't have the Vrooms to help us. Ready, Vrooms?

Can you fly up high, near the kite? Yes, that's perfect.

Now tip backwards a bit. A bit more... Yes! That's it.

Now let go, Twinkle!

Oh, look! The kite's flying.

Yeah!

Well done, everybody!

The whirly twirlers have made enough wind to fly the kite!

-This is so much fun.

-VROOMS VROOM

Ha ha. Whoa.

-Hold on tight, Sweetie!

I loved flying the kite,

but I didn't realise it would be such hard work.

'We're going to have a story!

'I think it'll be about helping your friends.

-'Or flying.

-Yeah, flying a helicopter.'

VROOMS VROOM

-Who's ready for a story, then?

-We are, Driver Dan.

Is there one about a lovely kite?

Hmmm. You know, I think we might just have one somewhere, Sweetie.

A-ha! I know just the book.

-Is everyone settled down and ready to listen?

-I am.

-Me too.

VROOMS BEEP

And all of you? Sitting down comfy and ready to listen?

'Yes, Driver Dan. Ready!'

This story is called The Dragon Who Ran Out Of Puff.

The story is by Timothy Knapman and the pictures are by Gwen Keraval.

It was a windy day. Perfect weather for kite flying.

"Wrap up warm, Mei Shing," called her grandmother,

"or you'll catch a cold

"and have to stay in bed drinking chicken noodle soup!"

Mei Shing didn't want to miss kite flying,

so she put on her warmest clothes,

then she ran outside with her beautiful dragon kite.

-Oh! Mei Shing has a beautiful kite.

-A beautiful kite, like ours!

The kite soared and zoomed

and looped the loop in the whistling wind.

Mei Shing had to hold on tight to stop it flying away.

She did so much running around, she stayed nice and warm

and her cheeks were pink, like blossom.

Then, all at once, there was a crash.

And Mei Shing's kite came tumbling out of the sky.

When Mei Shing went to look, she couldn't believe her eyes.

Out of her broken kite rolled a little dragon.

A real one!

"Whoops," said the dragon.

"Something strange happened and I flew into your kite.

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I must leave."

Before Mei Shing could say anything,

the dragon went running off, flapping his wings

and jumping up in the air. But try as he might, he couldn't fly.

"I've run out of puff," he said. "And without that, I can't fly.

"Oh, dear. Something strange is happening again."

And the dragon gave a loud... "Achoo!"

"That's not something strange," said Mei Shing. "It's a sneeze.

"You went out on a windy day and caught a cold."

"My mum did say something about wrapping up warm," said the dragon.

"How will I get home now?"

Mei Shing knew.

She covered the dragon in a blanket

and brought him a bowl of her grandmother's chicken noodle soup.

In no time, the little dragon was all warmed up.

And his puff was back!

He helped Mei Shing fix her kite and whizzed into the sky with it,

soaring and zooming and looping the loop.

VROOMS BEEP

Yes, that does look like fun.

Finally, he had just enough puff to give Mei Shing a special treat.

He opened his mouth and blew. "Whoosh!"

Fireworks fizzed and firecrackers popped.

The sky was ablaze with noise and colour.

"Goodbye, Mei Shing," said the dragon. "Thank you for everything!"

The end. Did you enjoy that story?

I liked it when the kite went loop the loop in the whistling wind.

But it was very windy. Mei Shing had to hold on tight.

-Yes, just like you, Sweetie.

-And now it's your turn.

'Achoo!

-'Oh, no. Achoo!

'The dragon fireworks are amazing.

-'Bye-bye, dragon.

-Bye!'
