Hmm...oh, I know! I'll do my own painting.

-Ohh, what about pointy claws?

Ho-ho-hee-hee! Wahey! I've got my paints.

First, my favourite colour, green!

Ha-ha-ha! Then yellow, blue and red!

Ha-ha! It's Loopy-tastic! Just wait until I show the others.

Better put these back first.

There. Finished. It's a Spottysaurus!

Ha-ha-ha! Yes. The blue loop is great, thanks, Loopy.

-Ooh, where's he gone?

-Loopy?

-He was here a moment ago.

Let's go and find him and tell him about our Spottysaurus.

They're going to love my footprint painting! I just know it.

Oh, where is everyone?

He's not here either. Where can he be?

-Hey, what are those?

-Footprints!

They're the same colours as our Spottysaurus' feet.

Ooh! Maybe a real Spottysaurus was here.

Ooh. Maybe Loopy's gone with it too.

Let's go and find it.

We'll have to be very brave and follow those footprints.

-Yeah.

-Ohhh. What was that?

Ooh, I thought I heard something. Never mind.

BOTH: Wa-ah!

No Precious, no Hip and no Hop.

No Spottysaurus here.

-Or Loopy.

-We've lost him.

-Who have you lost?

-He disappeared.

But I'm here.

-ALL: Wa-ah!

-ALL: Wa-ah!

I didn't mean to make you jump.

I came to see if your painting was finished.

Ohh! We thought you were the Spottysaurus!

Eh?

Huh?

Like the one we painted for you.

Oh, that's brilliant.

But it's come alive and left its footprints everywhere.

Yes, look. Red, yellow, blue and green.

Ha-ha! I know all about the Spottysaurus!

ALL: You do?

Ha-ha-ha! Because it's me! I must have left a trail of footprints

after I did my foot painting!

So it wasn't a Spottysaurus! It was a Loopysaurus!

THEY ALL LAUGH

They're both great paintings,

but now it's time to tidy up and go to Story Corner.

We're going to have a story.

-It might be about footprints.

-Or painting.

Or maybe a Spottysaurus. ALL: Yeah!

-Who's ready for a story?

-We are.

-We're ready.

Ah-ha! I know just the book. Is everyone settled down

and ready to listen?

-I'm ready.

-And me.

-Ye-es!

-Ready!

And all of you? Sitting down comfy and ready to listen?

ALL: Yes, Dan.

This story is called Brave Blue.

Emma Booth wrote it, and the pictures are by Bahji Jaroudi.

Blue's brothers, Sky and Dusk, were strong and brave,

like all wolf cubs.

But Blue didn't feel brave. He was scared of everything.

Birds squawking, bees buzzing, even his own tail.

Awww, poor Blue.

-We were a bit scared when we thought we'd lost you, Loopy.

-Ha-ha-ha!

One day, Blue's brothers wanted a special treat. Bear berries.

Bear berries only grew on Mist Mountain,

past the Raging River and through the Dark Cave.

"I'm not afraid," said Sky. "Me neither," boasted Dusk,

and they set off.

Once they had gone, Blue started to worry about his brothers,

so he headed after them.

How will he follow them now?

When he got to the river, a fierce looking moose blocked his way.

"You can't come past!" the moose grumbled.

"W-why not?" asked Blue, nervously.

"Because...erm, because...er, well,

"because I really wish you'd stay and play with me."

The moose wasn't scary at all. She wanted a friend.

So Blue stayed and played a game of splash with her in the river.

-That sounds fun.

-Yeah.

Blue went on his way and entered the caves. It was very dark.

He could hear a fluttering and a flapping in the darkness.

"Wh-wh-who's there?" stammered Blue.

"Shh, we're trying to get some sleep,"

yawned a chorus of little voices.

It was a bat family. They weren't scary at all. They were sleepy.

"Sorry. Night-night," whispered Blue, and he crept through the cave.

At last, Blue was at Mist Mountain, but as he raced

to join his brothers, he spotted a great big bear. Quick as a flash,

Blue leapt in front of his brothers,

and summoning all his courage, he howled, "Go away!" at the bear.

And do you know what? The big bear did, and off he ran.

-Ooh, that was lucky.

-It was, wasn't it?

"Wow!" cried Sky and Dusk. "That was amazing."

But then, they heard a sad little sob coming from the bushes nearby.

It was Bear. "What's the matter?" asked Blue.

"You're eating my bear berries," said Bear.

The bear wasn't scary at all, he was friendly.

The wolves were very sorry.

"How can we make it up to you?" asked Blue.

"Well, maybe you could stay so we could enjoy them together?"

The wolves were delighted, and they munched and slurped

with their new friend all afternoon.

Mmm. Bear berries look delicious.

That evening, Sky and Dusk told the other wolves

about their exciting adventure. They were especially proud of Blue.

"Three cheers for Blue!" they cried. "The bravest cub in our pack!"

-He's the bravest wolf cub ever!

Yeah, but he was worried about them.

Like we were worried about Loopy.

That's why we followed footprints.

Only to discover that he was the Spottysaurus.
