We're going to have a story.

It might be about fixing things.

A story all about sounds.

Or funny voices.

Who's ready for a story?

We're all ready, Driver Dan. Bip, bip.

Ah-ha. I know just the book.

-Is everyone settled down and ready to listen?

-ALL: Yes!

-And all of you? Sitting comfy and ready to listen?

-Ready, Driver Dan.

This story is called The Giant's Toothache.

It was written by Maitha Al Khayat

and the pictures are by Hani El-Masri.

Jameela the giant lived high on the mountains.

She was a kind, good-natured giant, loved by all her neighbours.

One morning, she set off to buy her favourite ice cream.

Mmm, I love ice-cream.

But as she took her first lick, Jameela gave a deafening groan.

The hills shook and the sheep jiggled.

Jameela gave a massive moan and the trees swayed and the people wiggled.

"Ow!" yelled Jameela

and enormous tears ran down her cheeks,

filling up the streams nearby.

-Maybe the ice cream was too cold.

-Let's find out, shall we?

"What's wrong, Jameela?" cried the King,

rushing out of his castle.

But Jameela couldn't speak. Instead, she lent down low

and opened her great big mouth.

"Just look at that big hole!" cried a little boy.

"We must call the dentist."

So the village dentist came and peered into Jameela's mouth.

But when she saw the size of the problem, she fainted right away.

So the King called for the royal dentist.

"No job is too great for me", he boasted.

But when he saw the size of the problem, he ran right away!

Bip, bip. Jameela needs her friends to help her, like you all helped me.

That's right, Bippity. Let's see what happens.

"No-one can help", moaned Jameela,

trudging home while the mountains shook beneath her

and the whole village shuddered.

"Something must be done", cried the King, desperately.

"We can't cope with all this noise."

"Excuse me", said one of the builders

who was helping fix all the damage.

"I've got an idea."

The villagers looked doubtful, but anything was worth a try.

So the builder and his construction crew

drove to the top of the mountain.

"We've come to help", they announced.

Jameela was so astonished, her mouth fell open and she stopped groaning.

The builders got to work fast.

With the excavator, they drilled and dug away at the bad tooth,

scooping out all the bad bits.

Then with their cement mixer,

they filled the cavity and gave the teeth a good polish.

Soon, Jameela's teeth were sparkling.

"It doesn't hurt any more!", cried Jameela,

smiling a very shiny smile at the builders.

The villagers cheered.

"Now remember, Jameela," said the King.

"Brush your teeth every day

"and that way you won't get any more cavities,

"and we'll get a bit of peace and quiet."

But oh, dear.

The mountains were shaking and the sheep were jiggling again!

"What is it this time?"

yelled the King, putting his hands over his ears.

It was Jameela. She was singing for joy.
