Episode 6 Escape from Scorpion Island

Last time, the boys took on Moving Target.

But now they will take their competitive streak too far?

The girls have more spirit than the boys think.

This time, boys, we're going to win, so watch out.

And a devastating twist from the island will remind both teams

who's really in charge.

This is Scorpion Island.

Hello and welcome to Escape From Scorpion Island.

It may look amazing here, but the island is tricky

and our teams are battling to be the first to escape

and beat the island.

Scorpion Island relishes in its splendid isolation

and uses its natural world as its impenetrable defence system.

The island is teeming with life, its precious treasure.

In recent times an adventurer came from far across the seas.

He was a fortune hunter, whose mission it was to plunder

the island of its legendary treasure.

He took on the island's challenges and succeeded.

But when he failed in his final escape, the furious island

mischievously captured the fortune hunter's spirit and locked it away.

Aaaaaaaaargh!

Ten new adventurers must follow the path he created,

their mission - to escape the island.

They must battle it out in terrifying challenges

and the victors will win an island treasure.

The more they win, the greater advantage

they'll have in the final race to escape.

Before the girls take on the Island Challenge,

the teams have found some paint

at the fortune hunter's abandoned camps.

Hi, guys. Well, you know how at first our place was a bit grubby?

We can funk it up a little bit.

Hey, guys, look what I've got.

I'm going to put B for boys, and then you can all

write your name out in turn.

And then I'm going to put 'no girls'.

This 'boys' isn't going to be no Jackson Pollock or van Gogh.

It's going to look kind of sloppy.

It's going to feel more like home

when we've contributed to our little hideout.

I think it's going to be really good once we've painted it.

Everybody steals this hammock,

and this hammock rightfully belongs to me.

So I'm going to put 'Zach's' and point an arrow to the hammock,

and that way, if anybody tries to sit on it...

What I'm doing is that if anyone tries to sit in the hammock,

this is rightfully my hammock.

Anybody sits in it they've got me to deal with.

-What?

-I take this one.

-I think that is completely unfair, Zach.

-I don't care.

-That's not fair.

-You have to tell him to ease off.

-We can't take it as a joke any more.

Today, it was causing so many problems in the team and I think

if it carries on any more...

-It's going to have to stop.

MYLEENE: While the boys are focusing on themselves

the girls are focusing on the Island Challenge.

We are going to win this next challenge.

I think we've all got a big boost

because we won the memory trial.

I think we'll do well, because in the other challenges

we hadn't won, so we were feeling like a balloon going...

Now we're like 'bing' and we're back up again.

This time, boys, we're going to win, so watch out.

So now it's the girls.

That's Natty...

Lizzie...

Eleanor...

Jeremy...

and today's captain, Khadie.

Because the girls won the memory trial they had the choice of

whether to take on the Island Challenge, Moving Target,

first or second, and they opted to make the boys go first this time.

-So you want to go second?

-Yes.

-OK, you happy?

-Yes.

They watched while the boys did

what they'll have to do in their turn -

collecting the balls which cascade over Skeleton Falls

at the start of the game and every two minutes after that.

-It's brilliant cos we can see what they're doing wrong.

-A lot of things!

Once they'd gathered the balls they had to pack them into a bag

for Peter to shoot into James's net.

You have to get as many as you can into the basket.

Every time more balls came over the falls, James's swing was raised up

a metre, making Peter's throws even tougher.

Look how much harder it is to throw from there.

As the boys' turn went on, the girls began to develop clever tactics.

Most are going to the outside. Someone should be on the outside.

Don't do one at a time. Throw one, throw another.

They didn't seem impressed by the boys.

Look how much they're missing.

All they're doing is going, "Come on!" That's not helping.

You have to say, "Higher, lower."

They seemed so certain that they would be able to make the most of

their turn, they even began to worry about an enviable problem!

What happens if you've got a full basket and can't do any more?

Well, then you try squashing it up.

The boys ended up with 37 balls in their net

but because James knocked one of these in with his hand,

their final score was 36.

So can the girls beat this and nab their first all-important treasure,

the silver pit viper? Time to find out.

Let's talk tactics because, from what I understand,

you've pulled apart what the boys did. What did you learn from Peter?

Who's going to be in Peter's position?

-So I'm guessing you've got a good throw.

-Yes.

OK. What did you learn from watching Peter?

He was sitting halfway across the chair, so he could turn around,

so when the chair was swinging he could move back into position

and throw the ball.

From what I could see, a lot of the pressure was on Peter,

because he's got to make the throw.

-Do you feel there's a lot of pressure on you?

-Um, yeah, sort of.

What about ball collecting? Any tactics?

Spreading your arms out and pushing the balls in.

You clearly have a good idea of what you're about to do.

All I can say is, I wish you the best of luck.

It's almost time for the girls' turn.

The boys are getting ready to watch. But something Zach said earlier...

I think we've done enough to win, because we were overall

the better team and we are overall the better sex.

..is causing ripples.

Well, I think Zach's been not nice to the girls.

-"The boys are the better sex"?

-That's stating a fact.

They might be laughing now, but will they be laughing

quite so hard once they've seen what the girls can do?

They're in position for the game,

Eleanor and Lizzie are up on the swings,

ready to make the catches and throws,

while Jeremy, Natty and Khadie are in the water,

set to gather the balls.

-Are you ready, ladies?

-Ready.

Right, they're ready. Three, two, one, go!

And they're heading over to where the balls are about to drop.

And here comes the cascade of red balls straight down the waterfall.

This is freezing water - and strong currents, too.

The longer they spend collecting the balls the tougher it's going to get.

-I think the girls are not going to do very well.

-You never know, man.

I'm not sure. I hope they don't do well.

While Eleanor does her best to motivate them,

Natty and captain Khadie are doing so well stuffing balls into the bag.

Lizzie knows this is the crucial time to get the maximum points.

So now can she make her first shot count?

Oh, it's a miss! But there's the first one in. And another.

Brilliant!

Great reactions from Eleanor there, and this is terrific work

from Lizzie. She is getting ball after ball in here.

Yes, Lizzie, you're doing amazing.

Lizzie's dropped the bag back down and so it's up to the girls

in the pool to refill it as quickly as possible.

This is cunning stuff from Jeremy.

Oh, they're using our herding technique.

It took Jordan till almost the end of the boys' turn to come up with

this tactic of using his arms to herd the balls through the water,

but because the girls were watching him, it means they can use it

straightaway. It just show what an advantage going second really is.

While she waits for the bag to get refilled, Lizzie's switching

positions on the swing. Will this help her aim?

There's the second load of balls going up.

Go! Oh, no! Not so high! Brilliant.

-Well done, Lizzie!

-Absolutely brilliant

Yes, Eleanor, this is absolutely brilliant.

Even the ball Lizzie threw with her left hand went in.

She's making this look very easy, our Lizzie.

You're the best. Come on, guys. This is brilliant. More balls!

Lizzie's getting through the balls at a great pace,

which means Natty, Khadie and Jeremy have to keep gathering

just as quickly to make best use of seconds before the next drop.

Already that basket's looking pretty full.

Lizzie is a fantastic shot.

Oh, yes, Eleanor's been raised up a metre and another massive delivery

of balls has come crashing down.

Higher, Lizzie.

Passing up another bag load.

It's quick work, but should they have packed more balls in?

Oh, no! Sorry, Lizzie.

Excellent team work from Eleanor and Lizzie.

They're communicating well and getting so many balls.

She's throwing the bag down while she carries on.

It could be a real time-saving tactic.

And this technique, the way she has positioned herself,

is working brilliantly. Well done, Lizzie.

Yes, the bag is much fuller this time,

which means Lizzie's got even more chances to score.

I'm turning round. The swing's unstable.

Lizzie, you are brilliant. My arms are really sore.

Well, Eleanor, they're going to get even more sore.

Lizzie is really keeping the pace up with her shots here.

The better she does, the more of an endurance challenge it is for you.

And it's not easy for Natty, either,

having to wade in the icy water to stuff the bag, while Jeremy

and Khadie scour the edges of the pool for more balls.

Guys, I think we're beating them.

Eleanor sounds confident. The boys are looking nervous.

It's so heavy. Oh, no! Lizzie, come on!

So Eleanor's been raised another metre.

And the next batch of balls has just cascaded down Skeleton Falls.

Well, Natty and Khadie are wasting no time in re-stuffing the bag.

They know the throws are getting longer.

Lizzie will need all the chances she can get. And here she goes.

This is so hard now, but Lizzie's throws are going the distance.

It's impressive work. And if she can just maintain her aim,

she could single-handedly shoot the girls to a massive win.

Good! Keep up the brilliant work.

Khadie might be captain today,

but it's Eleanor who's doing all the talking and all the cheering on.

Guys! Help, Jeremy!

Still, as Khadie is a real fan of clear communication,

she must be pleased that her team are not resorting to silence.

-Lizzie, I'm slipping.

-Oh, no! It would be disastrous

if Eleanor let that net slip.

No, she seems OK for now.

Natty, go, go, go!

Well done, guys. This is amazing teamwork.

Each of the girls is playing her part to perfection.

-From the look on the boys' faces, it seems they might think

Eleanor is right. But it's the balls in the net

at the end that count.

And with a net as heavy and hard to hold onto as this,

even one big spillage could spell disaster.

So that's the fourth ball drop.

There she goes. Eleanor's just shot up into the air.

It will be amazing if we get this.

-We had that much at the end.

And the ball-herding they learnt from Jordan

still seems to be working well for them.

-Brilliant, brilliant!

The bag was refilled in no time there.

Lizzie, you're doing absolutely brilliant.

And that's two more in.

By this stage in the boys' turn, Peter was struggling

to throw the balls far enough, let alone get them in.

But Lizzie is powering on. Can she keep it up?

Go, go, go!

Lizzie, this is brilliant work. No, on target.

Yes!

Lizzie is still on target.

She's making this game look far too easy and, believe me, it is not.

Well, done. Yes! I can't go like that any more, it's too full.

Well, that's a rare downside to doing so well.

And here comes the final batch.

Eleanor is now being raised to eight metres above the water.

-'How terrifying.'

-I can't get overarm.

You've got to, Lizzie, this is where it really counts!

Well, done, Jeremy. You're doing brilliant with this game.

The girls must be getting very tired now,

but they are not showing it.

No, Lizzie, come on!

Two misses in a row. Have the throws become impossible now

or can Lizzie get some incredible extra scores

before the time runs out?

One minute left to go.

Oh, just wide, this is frantic stuff but they are not giving up just yet.

-Lizzie, 20 seconds.

Really high Lizzie, really high, just get those balls!

Ten seconds left to go, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four,

I never thought it would be this fun. It was really fun.

I think we did very well and we worked really well as a team.

We were listening to each other and making sure we swapped each job.

I would be collecting, I would be putting them

into a basket and we worked really well together.

Yes, Khadie, you did work well together

and what an action-packed challenge it was.

Both teams got off to strong starts,

loading while the swings were level.

But as time went on, the catches got higher and the throws got

longer and the difference between the teams was clear.

It was all about the ball throwers. For the boys, Peter struggled to

hurl the balls far enough, let alone get them on target.

While for the girls, Lizzie proved a shot-making machine.

Still managing to pop runs of balls into Eleanor's net

extremely late in the game.

There were 37 balls in the boys' net at the end of their turn,

but James knocked one of these in with his hand, so they scored 36.

However, in the net at the end of the girls' turn,

there were an extraordinary 78 balls.

And so, having achieved more than twice the score of their rivals,

despite Zach's low expectations, it's the girls who

are victorious and will be awarded

the latest island treasure - the silver pit viper.

It will be their first one

and because the more they win, the greater the advantage they will have

in the final race to escape,

they are going to be really thrilled with it.

Got to come to Lizzie. Where did that throwing action come from?

Umm, when I was younger I used to play softball and baseball.

So you're the secret weapon here? Did the rest of you girls know that?

-No.

and Lizzie reflects on the Island Challenge.

I didn't feel a lot of pressure

because I felt really confident and I felt confident because I knew

that I have good throwing skills.

I think we have won that,

-haven't we? I think we have.

-Uh... Yeah.

I think we have, but every time we underestimate the boys,

they come back, surprisingly.

The boys are impressed by the girls' achievement.

-Lizzie was just amazing. She got every single ball in.

-Almost.

Almost every single ball in.

But they are worried that their rivalry today went too far.

Well, before the game, with Myleene, Zach was saying

we were going to win and how he said the girls

couldn't throw, they couldn't swim and that's how we are going to win.

How do you think the girls are going to do?

Rubbish, because none of them can swim, they all hate heights.

It's the perfect cocktail for sadness, misery and failure.

He thought. "Oh, well we have won twice now, so we will win again

"and I am going to say all these things."

He kept saying things like, "We are the best sex" and all sorts

of things like that, which I thought was really harsh of him to say.

Today, I am not very happy with myself,

because I really brought out my ugly side.

As you can probably see, I was saying, "Oh, the girls can't catch,

"the girls can't throw and the girls can't swim.

It was all in good humour, but I'm really unhappy

and I really do apologise for what I said.

I didn't mean any of it and the girls did accept my apology.

I apologise for everything. I said that girls can't catch,

throw and swim.

You can do all three of those. You did really well, so I'm sorry.

You have got to think, "If that was me, how would I feel?"

And I would feel pretty bad.

But Peter can understand

why there has been over-confidence in the boys' camp.

Like in the beginning, the first days, when we did the challenges,

I mean, when you look back at them,

the Chasm of Chaos we just won by one cog.

In Under Fire, we tied putting the balls into the bucket.

Today, I think luck was on their side and we were just washed out.

Again, I have to say, very, very sorry to the girls, because it

really wasn't appropriate. It all was in good humour,

but still I am very, very ashamed of my behaviour and I am very sorry.

A full moon rises in the night sky.

The adventurers are about to find out who has won today's

challenge at the Island Fire, the only place where the island

will communicate directly with the teams.

But tonight, Scorpion Island has a devious trick in store.
