Rachel Yankey!

Top international footballer and all-round sporting superstar.

0:00:460:00:51

But when Rachel's not scoring goals for her team,

0:00:510:00:54

she's playing with the Footy Pups.

0:00:540:00:57

THEY CHEER

0:00:590:01:01

Hi, everyone. We're all warmed up, so it's time to get moving.

0:01:020:01:07

THEY CHEER

0:01:070:01:09

Today on my team, we have...

0:01:090:01:11

0:01:110:01:14

Check out those skills, Malachi.

Brilliant skills, Oriana.

0:01:410:01:43

Also joining us are Footy Pups Geraldine and Rex.

0:01:430:01:46

THEY CHEER

0:01:460:01:48

So, that's today's team.

0:01:480:01:50

OK, gather round. It's team talk time!

0:01:520:01:54

Today, we're going to be looking at a different sport called gymnastics.

0:01:540:01:59

Does anyone know what things we might do in gymnastics?

0:01:590:02:02

-Ooh, Tay?

-Forward rolls.

-Brilliant.

0:02:020:02:06

-Sienna?

-Cartwheels.

-Fantastic.

0:02:060:02:09

There are loads of different things we can do in gymnastics, and

0:02:090:02:13

to tell us some more about it, I've invited along a good friend of mine.

0:02:130:02:18

Dan Keatings, international gymnast and multiple gold-medallist.

0:02:180:02:22

Dan specialises in routines on the pommel horse,

0:02:220:02:26

and when he's not in training, he can be found spinning and

0:02:260:02:29

flipping his way to a win in top competitions.

0:02:290:02:33

-Hi, Dan. Thanks for joining us.

-No problem.

0:02:360:02:38

We want to learn about gymnastics, and there's a few things we can try.

0:02:380:02:43

There's artistic gymnastics, which is what I mainly do.

0:02:430:02:46

We use equipment such as the beam, bars, pommel horse and the rings.

0:02:460:02:50

There's trampolining, where you do flips every time you bounce,

0:02:500:02:54

and rhythmic gymnastics, where you do rolls and flips on the mats.

0:02:540:02:59

So, there's lots to get involved with.

0:02:590:03:01

What three things are important in gymnastics?

0:03:010:03:04

Strength, flexibility and your finish.

0:03:040:03:07

What's the first thing we'll do?

0:03:070:03:09

We'll look at rhythmic gymnastics,

0:03:090:03:11

and we'll start with a forward roll. You start by standing

0:03:110:03:15

nice and straight. Crouch down, put your hands on the floor,

0:03:150:03:19

straighten your legs, tuck your head in, and push forward into the roll.

0:03:190:03:23

-When you've completed the roll, the finish is really important.

-OK!

0:03:230:03:27

Nice straight start from Sienna.

0:03:270:03:30

A great roll from Rex. REX LAUGHS

0:03:300:03:32

Stand up nice and straight and have that finish position.

0:03:320:03:36

Good. Straighten those legs up. Fantastic.

0:03:360:03:39

These pups are getting the hang of this now. Great stuff.

0:03:390:03:43

Malachi goes for a roll! He's pleased with that one.

0:03:430:03:47

Start by standing nice and straight. Crouch down, hands on the floor,

0:03:470:03:51

straighten your legs, tuck your head under,

0:03:510:03:54

push over, have a good finish position.

0:03:540:03:56

Push with your legs. Excellent.

0:03:560:03:58

Whilst these guys practise, here's a reminder for you at home.

0:03:580:04:02

For gymnastics, you'll need strength and flexibility.

0:04:020:04:06

These skills are also used in football.

0:04:060:04:09

And don't forget your finish!

0:04:090:04:12

We're going to do cartwheels.

0:04:130:04:15

To start, stand side on to the line in front of you.

0:04:150:04:19

As you step forward, place your hand either side of the line

0:04:190:04:22

on the puppy paws, and kick your legs over quickly.

0:04:220:04:26

Go on, Lucas. Good. Stand up nice and straight to finish.

0:04:260:04:30

-Don't forget the finish.

-A cracking cartwheel!

-Wow, good concentration.

0:04:300:04:34

Ready, Oriana? Beautiful, well done!

0:04:340:04:38

They're getting the hang of this now.

0:04:380:04:41

Kick those legs over quickly.

0:04:410:04:44

Keep your body straight. First paw. Wow, really nice.

0:04:440:04:48

Get those hands on the puppy paws. Well done.

0:04:480:04:51

And a nice finish.

0:04:510:04:53

-Oh, whoa! You're brilliant at cartwheels, Rex!

-Thanks, Geraldine.

0:04:530:04:58

I LOVE gymnastics.

0:04:580:05:01

-Hey, do you remember that time we got stuck in the gym?

-Oh, yeah!

0:05:010:05:06

Welcome to Pupton Park,

0:05:080:05:10

where it looks like Pete's having a spot of engine trouble.

0:05:100:05:13

-Come on!

-But where are the Footy Pups?

0:05:130:05:16

-ALL:

-Wow!

-I've never seen a break-dancing tortoise before!

0:05:180:05:24

That tortoise has talent!

0:05:240:05:26

Arrrgh!

0:05:270:05:29

-And look at this elephant!

-SHE LAUGHS

0:05:290:05:32

HE PLAYS A TUNE

0:05:320:05:35

SMASH!

0:05:350:05:37

Join us later on Animals Have Talent

0:05:370:05:40

for a fantastic gymnastic performance

0:05:400:05:43

from the Pupton Park cheer-fleaders!

0:05:430:05:45

-ALL: Oh, wow!

-The cheer-fleaders are appearing?!

0:05:450:05:48

In fact, they've been secretly perfecting their gymnastics show

0:05:480:05:52

in the gym for weeks!

0:05:520:05:54

Oh, I can't wait to see it!

0:05:540:05:56

Well, maybe we can have a sneaky wee peeky before they go on the show!

0:05:560:06:02

Then what are we waiting for?

0:06:020:06:04

Take it away, chear-fleaders!

0:06:050:06:09

THEY WHOOP AND CHEER

0:06:090:06:11

I love gymnastics! Whoa!

0:06:150:06:18

Ohh, they make it look so easy.

0:06:200:06:23

Aye, lad. Gymnastics takes strength,

0:06:230:06:25

flexibility, balance and control!

0:06:250:06:29

And...dismount!

0:06:290:06:32

ALL: Wow!

0:06:320:06:33

You'll easily win Animals Have Talent with that routine!

0:06:330:06:37

Ohh, you better get to the show before it's too late.

0:06:370:06:40

THEY WHOOP AND CHEER

0:06:400:06:42

Don't forget to watch us!

0:06:420:06:44

-Don't worry! We won't!

-Wow!

0:06:440:06:46

The cheer-fleaders are so good at gymnastics!

0:06:460:06:50

-It looks like great exercise!

-And lots of fun!

0:06:500:06:53

-I wish we could do some of those amazing moves!

-Actually,

0:06:530:06:57

you're in the best place to try some gymnastics right now!

0:06:570:07:02

And there's the vault. Geraldine's the first pup to have a go.

0:07:020:07:06

Alley-oop!

0:07:060:07:09

Whoa-oa-oa!

0:07:100:07:12

All that spinning's making me giddy. Let's see how Benny's getting on.

0:07:120:07:16

Um... Little help?

0:07:160:07:19

I got here, but I can't get down. Ooh.

0:07:190:07:22

Whoa! Watch out Pickles! Wooo!

0:07:220:07:25

SMASH!

0:07:250:07:27

-What a howler!

-That's the spirit, pups.

0:07:270:07:31

It's always good to try something new!

0:07:310:07:33

We're not nearly as good at gymnastics as we are at football.

0:07:330:07:37

But, Rex, gymnastics uses speed,

0:07:370:07:40

balance, flexibility and strength!

0:07:400:07:44

All the skills you already need to play football.

0:07:440:07:47

I don't think we look like this when we're playing football!

0:07:470:07:51

Ho-ho! Come on! Let's watch the cheer-fleaders on the telly!

0:07:510:07:55

They'll show us how it's done. Ugh!

0:07:550:07:58

Ugh! Ooh! I can't open the door!

0:07:580:08:01

Quick, Freddie - pull harder!

0:08:010:08:04

We don't want to miss them!

0:08:040:08:06

ALL: Heave! Ohhhh!

0:08:060:08:08

SMASH!

0:08:080:08:09

THEY MOAN

0:08:090:08:11

Uh-oh. Do we still need this?

0:08:110:08:13

Oh, no!

0:08:130:08:15

There's no handle to open the door!

0:08:150:08:17

We'll miss the cheer-fleaders' fantastic gymnastic performance!

0:08:170:08:22

This is terrible news for the pups. If only Pete could help.

0:08:220:08:26

-But it looks like he's a bit distracted.

-Right, then.

0:08:260:08:29

Let's see if I can get the old girl purring again.

0:08:290:08:33

-ENGINE REVS

-She's alive!

0:08:330:08:36

-CRUNCHING

-Oh, dear!

0:08:360:08:38

HE COUGHS

0:08:380:08:40

Ohh, what are we going to do?

0:08:400:08:42

It's no good, I can't dig us out of here!

0:08:420:08:46

Then let's try being as loud as possible.

0:08:460:08:49

Then somebody might hear us and let us out!

0:08:490:08:52

Great idea! And a-one, two, three...howl!

0:08:520:08:56

THEY HOWL

0:08:560:08:59

There's no way the pups... ENGINE REVS

0:08:590:09:02

SHOUTING: I said, there's no way they'll be heard

0:09:020:09:05

over all that engine noise.

0:09:050:09:08

I'm so hot!

0:09:100:09:12

And I'm...really pooped. Oh, well.

0:09:120:09:15

-At least that open window will keep us cold.

-Open window?

0:09:150:09:20

Maybe we can get someone's attention if we get closer to it.

0:09:200:09:23

Sound like a puppy plan!

0:09:230:09:26

SHE GASPS

0:09:270:09:29

Oh, jumping's not working.

0:09:290:09:32

This isn't working, either!

0:09:320:09:34

You just need to take a nice big run at it! Whoa!

0:09:340:09:40

-THUMP!

-Ooh!

0:09:400:09:42

It's just too high up.

0:09:420:09:45

This is a disaster!

0:09:450:09:47

We'll miss the cheer-fleaders doing their gymnastics on TV.

0:09:470:09:51

Maybe we could use gymnastics to get to the window.

0:09:510:09:55

What a brilliant idea, laddie. Ho-ho!

0:09:550:09:58

Rex's running needs speed,

0:09:580:10:00

Rozzie's move on Pickle's head needs strength and balance...

0:10:000:10:04

..and your jumping uses flexibility!

0:10:040:10:07

So, we can try to put them all together and use gymnastics

0:10:070:10:12

to reach the window!

0:10:120:10:13

It's a tall order, but can the pups pull it off?

0:10:150:10:18

THEY STRAIN

0:10:200:10:22

Alley-oop! Ooh! Ooh!

0:10:220:10:23

We just need one more gymnast for the top!

0:10:250:10:29

ALL: Come on, Freddie!

0:10:290:10:31

I'm not sure about this!

0:10:310:10:34

Hup! Hup! Hup!

0:10:340:10:35

Ooh, oh! There's groundskeeper Pete!

0:10:350:10:38

-THROUGH MEGAPHONE:

-Groundskeeper Pete!

0:10:380:10:40

-Oh! How did you get up there, Freddie?

-We're locked in!

0:10:400:10:44

Can you get us out?

0:10:440:10:46

With this beauty back up and running,

0:10:460:10:49

I'll have you out of there in a jiffy.

0:10:490:10:51

Go!

0:10:540:10:55

-ALL:

-Thank you!

0:10:550:10:58

I hope they've made it in time to see the cheer-fleaders' big moment!

0:10:580:11:02

They've won the competition!

0:11:040:11:06

-ALL:

-Fast, flexible, balanced and strong,

0:11:060:11:09

gymnastics is fun all day long!

0:11:090:11:12

Yippee!

0:11:120:11:14

Hey, Freddie.

0:11:140:11:15

When they get back, I can't wait to show them our gymnastics routine!

0:11:150:11:20

Oh, no! Not again!

0:11:200:11:22

THEY LAUGH

0:11:220:11:23

It was gymnastic teamwork that helped us get out of the gym,

0:11:250:11:29

-wasn't it, Rex?

-Ha-ha-ha! Definitely! Whoa!

0:11:290:11:32

Geraldine, this springboard is really bouncy!

0:11:320:11:37

-Hi guys.

-BOTH: Hi, Rachel!

-You guys are great at gymnastics.

0:11:370:11:40

Can I join in?

0:11:400:11:42

-Of course you can!

-Why don't you have a go on this, Rachel?

0:11:420:11:45

It's called a springboard and it can make you really bouncy.

0:11:450:11:49

OK, Rex. Thanks.

0:11:490:11:52

BOING! THUMP!

0:11:520:11:54

Ohh! Do you guys remember how to be good at gymnastics?

0:11:540:11:58

Remember, strength, flexibility and finish.

0:11:580:12:04

OK, guys, who fancies a game?

0:12:050:12:07

THEY CHEER

0:12:070:12:09

So, I've split you up into two teams. We've got the red team.

0:12:090:12:12

Red team, give me a cheer.

0:12:120:12:15

Brilliant. And we've got the blues. Let me hear you cheer.

0:12:150:12:19

Fantastic.

0:12:190:12:20

Let's take a look with the Footy Pups to find out how to play.

0:12:200:12:24

Come and have a look.

0:12:240:12:25

To play this game, you put on a performance.

0:12:250:12:29

The first team-mate performs a routine.

0:12:290:12:31

This should include at least one roll, one cartwheel

0:12:310:12:35

and a proper finish. Then it's the next team-mate's turn.

0:12:350:12:38

At the end of the routine, the judges will give a score

0:12:380:12:42

out of 5, and the winners will be the team who score the most points.

0:12:420:12:46

-Three, two, one...

-WHISTLE BLOWS

0:12:460:12:49

Oriana's the first of the blues to set off. Fantastic!

0:12:490:12:53

She's racing through this routine. Can she finish?

0:12:530:12:57

Fantastic, well done.

0:12:570:12:58

-Next up, Malachi.

-Superb control in the cartwheel.

0:12:580:13:02

He's on to a forward roll, and another cartwheel. Marvellous!

0:13:020:13:07

Well done, that's brilliant.

0:13:070:13:09

-Keep the body nice and strong.

-Wow!

-Fantastic splits.

0:13:090:13:14

He's not forgotten the roll!

0:13:140:13:15

-Brilliant stuff.

-Well done.

0:13:150:13:18

It's all over. Let's have a replay.

0:13:180:13:20

The blue team were cracking at cartwheels and rolls.

0:13:200:13:24

Let's find out what the judges think.

0:13:240:13:27

You pulled together and showed great flexibility.

0:13:270:13:30

So, I'm going to give you a huge 5.

0:13:300:13:33

I loved those moves, so I'm going to give you a strong 4 points!

0:13:330:13:38

Well done, blues, that's 9 out of 10 points.

0:13:380:13:42

Let's see what the reds can do. WHISTLE BLOWS

0:13:420:13:45

-Sienna leaps into action.

-Aw, I love that one.

0:13:450:13:49

An excellent forward roll.

0:13:490:13:51

She's concentrating hard here.

0:13:510:13:54

-Lovely finish!

-Well done.

0:13:540:13:56

Fantastic, Sienna.

0:13:560:13:58

Lily wastes no time. She's cartwheeling crazy.

0:13:580:14:02

A beautiful roll. And onto the finish.

0:14:020:14:06

Well done, that's brilliant.

0:14:060:14:08

Lucas is last. Nice strong cartwheel.

0:14:080:14:11

Excellent forward roll.

0:14:110:14:13

He squeezes in another cartwheel.

0:14:130:14:15

-Superb finish.

-It's all over.

0:14:150:14:17

Let's have a replay.

0:14:170:14:19

The reds put on a strong performance,

0:14:190:14:22
