Ooh, wouldn't it be exciting to go and visit the stars and planets

in space? But you'd need a spaceship to get there.

Whooshhh!

I'd love to be a spaceman, wouldn't you?

Shall we squiggle our own spaceman?

What sort of line could we use? Let's have a look.

It's a round line!

Have you got your Squiggle Pads,

and Squiggle Sticks ready?

Now it's time to Get Squiggling!

We'll need a round line for a spaceman's helmet.

I love round lines!

Squiggle one with me.

Put your Squiggle Stick on your Squiggle Pad.

Go round...and round...and round...

to make a circle.

That's my round line.

What's yours like?

Round...and round...and round... to make a circle.

Let's put a rectangular shape inside our circle,

to make it look like a helmet.

Across...down...across...up.

There. Let's give him a face.

Two eyes...

a nose...and a smiley mouth.

We can use the round line again to draw his body.

He needs two arms with gloves on.

One...

two!

Big space boots!

One...

two!

And last of all, a loopy line to make his air tube.

Loopy...loopy...loopy...loopy.

Shall we meet our spaceman?

Hello there. I'm Sonny.

Sonny the spaceman!

Pleased to meet you, Sonny.

It must be a lot of fun being a spaceman,

whooshing around in space!

Yes! The whooshing is fun.

But it'd be more fun if I had someone to whoosh with!

Oh! Haven't you got any friends in space?

No, I live on a planet all by myself. It gets a bit lonely, really.

Oh, poor Sonny!

Why don't we come and see your planet?

Have you got your Squiggle Pads and Squiggle Sticks ready?

Let's Get Squiggling!

Let's all squiggle Sonny's planet.

We'll need a curved line for this.

Ready...up...curve round...and down.

That's the surface of our planet.

What about some craters?

They're big dips, like holes.

We can use our round line again.

Oh, and Sonny needs a spaceship.

Draw a rectangle shape first.

Across...down...

across...up.

Two lines on the top to make a triangle shape.

And two fins.

One...two.

We can use our round-shaped line again to make two little windows.

One...two.

That looks like a lovely spaceship.

Let's colour it in.

There! All finished.

Let's have a look around, Sonny.

Why don't you come too?

OK. But there's not that much here. Ha-ha-ha!

Lots of space dust.

Aaa-aaa-tchoo!

But apart from that, there's just curly-wurly flowers,

and my spaceship.

But that's it. Nothing else.

-HE SIGHS No-one to be friends with.

Nope. I'm all on my own.

Why don't you get in your spaceship and whoosh to another planet?

Maybe you could find a friend there.

I've tried that, but I couldn't find anyone on any of the other planets.

Do you know what a telescope is?

You look through it to see things that are far away.

Ah! That sounds good.

We need our round line again.

We need three rectangles to make the rest of the telescope,

each one smaller than the other.

Let's colour it in.

I'm going to make mine blue.
