It's one of my biggest passions,

and I find it, kind of, a way to express myself.

I prefer singing in front of larger audiences.

I just get, like, a buzz being on stage.

And Annie and her mum, Liz.

Going on tour, like, all around the world.

I think that's every child's dream.

With everyone here, it's time to reveal

what they'll be competing for.

As you guys know, the winner of last year's series, Jorja,

got to perform in front of thousands of people

at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.

This year, the winner of the series will get to be stepping out

onto the stage at Big Weekend as well.

But, guys, that's not all.

The winner this time will also get to perform a collaboration

with a rather exciting mystery guest.

Mystery performance. I'm so excited, I have no idea who it's going to be.

This could be, like, one of my big breaks.

It's just given me more determination to win.

Each episode, there are only three end-of-show sing-off spots

up for grabs.

And those performance places can be won in a series of challenges.

But first the whole group will be learning the chosen song

with our music maestro, David Tench.

So, David, we are back in a new music mansion, how exciting.

Yeah, this is it. The first session is coming,

so I get to meet them all and, yeah,

get a sense of who wants to fight the hardest.

David Tench is an elite musical director

who knows how competitive the industry can be.

Working around the piano and hearing the songs individually,

it's a chance for all the kids to see what they're up against.

OK, Henry, this is your song this time.

I really want to be in the first sing off because it's my song

and I've been practising it loads.

Henry just stepped up with his guitar

and he gave a performance that was like he was

already at Big Weekend.

You could see in the eyes of the other kids that they were really

impressed and now they realise just how hard

they have to push to reach that standard.

So have you done a lot of performing before?

Yeah, I've done quite a lot, yeah.

I've went on Britain's Got Talent and I've been doing, like,

loads of gigs ever since.

How are you guys feeling, then, after hearing Henry give such a

confident performance?

Nervous.

At the minute my competition would have to be Henry.

And I think he's got quite a big audience already,

so I think he's probably my biggest competition.

Sorry, Henry.

Henry is a 14-year-old singer songwriter

from Wigan with big ambitions.

# I'm in love with the shape of you. #

I go all over the world and just play on, like,

absolutely massive stages in front of, like,

thousands and thousands of people.

And he has already achieved more in his music career than most.

When I was 12 I went on Britain's Got Talent.

I was, like, performing live in front of,

like, over 10 million people.

The audience loved it and at the end everyone stood up.

Since then, he has built up a huge following

online performing covers...

Got over 200,000 subscribers which is absolutely amazing.

..but he nearly took a very different path.

He did use to be really serious at his football.

He was signed at Wigan Athletic for four years

and that's a big commitment.

There just came a time when I couldn't do both so I had to choose.

I'm really happy that I chose music.

Back in the lesson, one of the group now has a tricky task...

Emilly, I know this is not your vibe.

..to try and follow Henry's polished performance.

Maybe we should just dive in and just see what we can do

with this tune.

So your first challenge is all about songwriting.

I loved being in the Spice Girls because I love music

and I love being in a band. But we had to push and work hard.

It's not easy. There's always been a lot of noes.

I got told no so many times

I think you've got to really love it.

Being famous, how do you handle, like, the hate

and things like that? How do you handle all that stuff?

Really remember who your friends are,

whose opinion really matters,

they are the ones that are going to be honest.

Do you have any advice for us to do with songwriting?

I would say the best kind of writing is honesty.

When you write, you're saying this is a piece of me,

Our task, OK, is a brave one.

You're going to have to get into pairs and the two of you

are going to have to write a song.

The singers have been split into pairs to write their songs.

And have each been given a word to use as inspiration.

Family. Right, OK.

Oh, great.

Jada is with Rio.

No idea. Never wrote before, I'm so nervous, I don't know.

Writing a song is easy.

Writing a good song is a different matter.

The challenge is to be brave and to be free.

I can share with you one thing.

My mother, who was a cleaner, she used to work in a shopping mall.

She's Spanish. When I got a record deal and she was like,

"Why don't you get a proper job?"

You know, she didn't really get it.

But the one thing that she did, was she remained my mum.

She'd say, "Are you eating properly? Are you sleeping properly?"

She never stopped being my mum.

More important is being you guys being there for them.

Do you feel like you're, sort of, coming together?

I can, like, sustain the melody and then, like, Rio's, like,

really good at harmonising.

-I think the other teams are quite good as well,

so we've got a bit of competition.

A little bit of healthy competition is good.

I love working with other people.

It's kind of finding each other's strengths

and fill in each other's weaknesses.

their first physical challenge.

end-of-show sing off spot.

There is no doubt the music business is one of the toughest industries

there is. As a singer,

you are constantly trying to stay ahead of the competition

but there's always tricky obstacles in your way.

To be honest, it's enough to make your head spin.

I hope we're not spinning.

And, mums, that's a feeling you have to get used to in today's challenge,

which we like to call the Eggs Factor.

The first challenge is a farmyard assault course.

The mums will be racing through a series of tricky obstacles

whilst riding chickens.

Oh, my God!

No! It's very humiliating.

But it's not just the quickest chicken to make it back to the coop,

to complete the course the mums must collect four eggs

hidden along the way.

And, as always, our games guru Kevin Adams is on hand

to make sure there is no FOWL play.

I'm really nervous because they're really, really good.

13-year-old Annie is a polished performer

from the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales.

Since I was quite young, I was actually trained classically.

Other than classical singing, I am quite into rap.

All the glitz and the glam and the fashion.

And she is hoping her versatile singing style

could help win her the prize.

The chance to perform at Radio 1 Big Weekend,

that would be amazing. It's on.

Annie is very quietly competitive

and will always pull it out of the bag.

But when it comes to success stories,

her mum is a tough act to follow.

Besides being a businesswoman, she was in a girl band.

What was it called? Every Women For Themselves, I don't know,

something like that. It wasn't quite the Spice Girls!

She also won Miss Wales Beautiful Eyes.

I won a year's supply of contact lenses.

I think I have a lot to live up to.

which performer is the winner.

The person with the most sing off wins after eight episodes

will automatically qualify for the grand final in show ten.

So this is the first sing off in the new music mansion.

Yeah, I am quite happy that I remembered the lyrics

I just think in just a short space of time,

I saw a difference in her voice today.

Jada's rap was absolutely fantastic.

It was a last-minute decision to put that in

and she pulled it off brilliantly.
