Today we've come to Middleton House in Middlesex.

-We're looking for a special yellow flower.

-Come on!

There they are - daffodils!

Daffodils are bright yellow flowers that come up in spring time.

They grow from bulbs into tall green stalks with cheerful, nodding heads.

Daffodils come in loads of slightly different varieties.

This one's like a creamy yellow.

Yeah, it's a bit whiter.

That one looks a bit goofy.

-And some of the petals spread out a bit on some.

-Yeah.

-Some stick together.

-Some are longer than others.

They're all growing longer.

They look like they're dancing in the breeze.

These are the petals.

And the trumpet has a frilly edge at the top.

And the inside is almost as frilly as the top.

It feels very funny, but if you look inside it,

-it's very dark.

-It's darker than the outside.

-Shall we count the petals?

-OK.

On this daffodil there is one, two, three, four,

five, six petals.

They don't really smell.

This one has a yellow trumpet with white petals.

This one is yellow all over.

You mustn't pick any so that everyone who comes here can enjoy them.

-Maybe you've seen some daffodils where you live!

Here are some clues to help you find it, so let's get spotting.

Blackthorn is a bush with loads of thorny branches,

so watch out, don't spike yourself.

It grows on its own

or in hedgerows where birds like to build their nests.

The blossom grows on its black branches before the leaves arrive.

The flower is tiny and white and has five petals.

One, two, three, four, five petals on this flower.

So, to spot blackthorn blossom, remember...
