Scrapbook!

I love coming to this school to do my bird watching.

There's lots of feeders to attract lots of different birds.

There's birds that like to feed up high so they use

these hanging feeders. Others feed on the ground

so I'm putting food out for them.

Then, you just wait.

Let's say the Green Balloon Club chant with some of our members.

We love animals, plants, and birds!

We love snails and slugs!

Large and small, we love them all and we never,

ever step on bugs! Cos we are the Green Balloon Club!

Look how much it's grown.

We have a flower bed.

I'm making a house so I can plant my seed.

It's really fun.

I've finished digging.

You need to put the plant in the hole.

It's taken three weeks to grow.

I love getting all muddy.

Look how big it is.

We're watering the plants.

I can't wait for the vegetables to grow so I can eat them.

I think Skipper is just a bit faster than Chester

but I've got some music to suit her better.

Why does Skipper go faster than Chester?

-Is it because she has shorter legs?

-Yes, her shorter legs move faster

to cover the same ground as Chester. Now we have better music,

let's see if we can put those moves you've been practising to it!

No sign of any birds yet but lots of squirrels.

That's what happens when you put food on the ground.

But I love watching them, too.

Wow, a green parakeet! I didn't think I'd see one of them.

They're not that common in this country but some do live here now.

There's Green Balloon Club members all over the country.

Look, it's Charlotte and Maddie.

They've got something special to show us. Hello!

Hello!

My name is Charlotte and this is my little sister Maddie. We live in

a special place filled with lots of furry, miniature animals.

They're the cutest animals. Come and see.

We have lots of tiny ponies.

They are really soft and love being cuddled by us.

This is Katie, she loves carrots.

We help our mum look after the miniature ponies.

We must make sure we care for them properly.

Now, we're going to pick out her feet but we must

put her collar on first.

They have very small feet so mud and stones can easily get stuck in them.

And now I've done her feet.

These miniature ponies are a lot smaller

than normal ponies you'll find on a farm.

This is Charlie. This is my pony, he's eight years old.

He's a Shetland pony and I love him.

Look at my pony, she looks like a giant

compared to my little sister's Shetland pony.

We like riding our ponies. Let's show you.

-First, we need to change into our riding clothes. Come on!

-CLICKS HER TONGUE

Now we're ready, we need to get the ponies ready.

Penny!

-She's all tacked up and ready to ride. Come on!

I want one of them ponies, they're so cute.

But I haven't really got anywhere to keep it.

Oh, look, here's a message from Sky.

That's unusual. I wonder what she's up to at the moment.

Hello, there. I'm Sky.

We've come to this lovely park to make something beautiful

out of things we'd normally throw away.

These bottles have interesting shapes, don't they?

-Yes.

-I like this one because it has bubbles.

I like this one because it has these patterns on it.

I like this one because it's yellow and yellow is my favourite colour.

If you turn it on to its side,

it reminds me of the creature we're going to make today.

I wonder if you can guess what it's going to be.

We've got to cover our bottles, they're looking a bit plain.

Maybe we can use some of these bits of scrap paper.

-I like this one because it makes everything look orange.

-It does.

This piece of paper is quite big.

We're going to cut it out into a smaller piece like this.

OK? Go round and round. Look.

It looks like a long semi-circle.

Can you see? We're going to need lots of these. Everybody get cutting.

Put it in the bowl.

That's great.

We've got to get some of this

sticky tape and stick a row of the shapes on to the sticky tape.

Look, lots of interesting shapes there.

Then, we stick it on the bottle.

Oh, Maya, that looks cool! Does everybody else

-want to have a go?

-ALL: Yes.

Everybody start working together.

You've done a good job there.

Making mine out of tissue paper.

That's really pretty.

Now all we need is a fin and a tail.

Oh, no, I think you've guessed what they are. We're making fishes!

OK. So, what shape is a fin, everyone?

-It's a triangle.

-Yes, it is.

We're going to get a

piece of paper, fold it like that and then,

get your scissors and cut out

a triangle shape.

There's a centre crease here, cut along the middle.

And then, you end up with two pieces of paper.

Put one at the top and one at the bottom like this.

Everybody, let's start making things. That's a nice top fin.

-Or is that the bottom?

-That's the top one.

That's the top one. Oh, that's a really good idea.

There's just one thing missing.

I wonder what it is?

-Eyes!

-Oh yes, our fish has to be able to see.

-Yes!

How about we use some of these bottle tops for eyes?

You can pick different colours.

Put it on like that.

Hey, look! My fish can see now!

There you go.

-Wow, everyone, we've made a whole school of fish, haven't we?

-Yes.

-Now, where do fish live?

-ALL: In the water!

Yeah.

Wow, look at everybody's fishes!

They look amazing! Look, you can see the reflections in the water.

-It looks like they are swimming!

-Look, there's my fish!

Yeah!

Wow!

Look at my fish.

Curled in her basket, Skipper is dreaming.

She's dreaming of deep sea exploring today.

Then, in a twinkle,

and with a wag of her tail, she's off on adventures in lands far, far away.

Oh no, where are we going?

It looks cold and dark.

Look at all those shadows!

Who might live here?

What's that? Is it a snake?

Barking bones, it's got lots of arms!

One arm, two arms, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

What has eight arms and lives under the sea?

Wow, Skipper's discovered a giant octopus!

Imagine if I had lots of arms.

Think of all the things I could do.

Mm!

Look at it walking with all those arms. Or are they legs?

Oh, and look at all the suckers it's got for clinging on.

Where is it going now?

Oh, it's trying to catch a crab for its tea. Watch out, crab!

Goodness, how did it get in there?

And how is it going to get out?

That octopus is a very clever animal.

It's squeezing out of that tiny hole.

Barking bones, now it's changing colour.

It's gone all white. Oh look, there's its eye.

I think it's watching me.

I wonder what it's thinking.

Oh, he's off again into the deep.

Bye-bye, Mr Octopus.

The adventure is over.

Skipper's back in her bed, wondering if eight legs are better instead.

They'll never believe the things I have seen.

Did it really happen?

Or was it a dream?

Whoa, Skipper! I'm not sure I would like to meet a giant octopus.

Would you?

It's nearly time for me to go now but before I do,

there's time for just one thing. Do you know what it is?
