Episode 12 Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic

It's a brand-new term,

and CBBC have sent these four magicians back to school.

They're pretending to be supply teachers

so that they can perform amazing magic on unsuspecting classes.

But because you know and love them,

this time we've cunningly disguised them.

This time it's John pretending to be a supply teacher

and trying to fool another class.

The disguise is on, the hidden cameras are set.

Now, it's good to be here, today I'm going to give you a lesson,

a special lesson on a type of personal hygiene.

Not washing and cleaning your teeth,

but other things we do to help keep ourselves looking smart.

Put your hand up if you clean your shoes. That is impressive.

Put your hands down.

I clean my own shoes, but it's not as popular as it used to be.

You do see people cleaning shoes at stations and at airports.

And hotels, as well, would clean your shoes.

I've actually got hold of one of the machines

they use to clean shoes in a hotel.

I thought I would show you how it works.

I haven't had a full chance to read the instructions,

they came in this box with a few other things.

I'm just going to leave them there.

Note, that is a sealed box,

that will become important to the trick later.

I need somebody whose shoes need cleaning.

-What's your name?

-Miss Smith.

Would you mind loaning me one of your shoes?

Miss Smith is the class's regular teacher.

She's in on the secret that John is a magician,

but doesn't know what the trick is.

That shoe looks quite clean already,

but we'll see if we can polish it up and make it a little bit better.

That's great, thanks.

When this shoe gets polished in a hotel,

you might put a little tag on, a little tag like this one.

I'm going to ask Miss Smith if you can write your name on this tag

and maybe a random room number for me.

Just write your name and any room number at all on there.

Miss Smith is tagging her shoes so that we know it is hers

later in the trick. But what's going to happen?

That's your first name, Siobhan. Wonderful.

And you've decided you are in hotel room number seven, wonderful.

We'll just tie it to the shoelace like that.

The machine is very quick and easy to use.

You put the shoe in the machine like this.

And we need to add a little bit of the shoe-cleaning spray.

And then we just need to turn it on.

Because it's remote control I don't need to touch the machine,

I just need to press the buttons on the remote control which is two,

three, action and it will...

-Bear with him.

-It should start.

Is anything happening yet?

-PUPILS:

-It's smoking.

What? All right, calm down.

I hope Miss Smith's shoes are OK in there.

Maybe that's worked, maybe...

Maybe...maybe it's all clean.

Oh, dear.

They can't believe it.

I think that might be meant to happen.

I think, um...

You see, if that happens you do get, you get one of these.

This is a shoe-cleaning cloth.

If I just put the shoe in there like so, that's it.

And if we just give the cloth a little bit of a polish like this,

what happens is...ah...

Where's it gone?

It's all right, I know what's gone wrong.

I've... I should've read the instructions. Just hold on a second.

Remember, the instructions are in the sealed box.

-The shoe magic is about to get shinier.

-Calm down.

We'll just have a look in here.

All right, everybody quiet. Let's have a look at the instructions.

I'm sure they will tell us what's gone wrong.

Do not use the device unless you have read the instructions,

yes, knew that. Here we go.

If the shoe gets damaged during the cleaning process,

please use the spare shoe enclosed with the instructions.

It must be this one.

CHILDREN GASP

Miss Smith, is that the name you wrote on the shoe?

-And is that the room number you chose?

-It is.

Isn't that a fantastic device? Incredible.

But it's time for John to own up.

I have got to come clean, I'm not really a teacher.

I'm actually a magician and you're going to be on a CBBC show

called Help My Supply Teacher's Magic.

And there's the camera there, there's a camera here,

and there's a camera over there.

An amazing trick, and this class didn't realise.
