Well, here we are at the Seaside Museum, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
where I've been invited by Jasper and Joseph. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
Here we are, Katy! | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Joseph and Jasper! Oh, good to see you! | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
-Are these your friends? -Yeah. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
-And what's your name? -Lily May. -And what's your name? -Melissa. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
So Joseph, what are we going to do today? | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
We're going to look round the Seaside Museum. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
Fantastic! Do you want to cook some food as well? | 0:01:29 | 0:01:33
CHILDREN: Yeah! | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
Brilliant! Follow me. I've got a great recipe to cook with you. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:39
-Welcome to my outdoor kitchen! -CHILDREN: Yay! | 0:01:41 | 0:01:45
-Who's excited about doing some cooking? -Me me me me me! | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
OK, I'll show you what we're going to cook today. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
Today's recipe is the delicious Crumble Top Tarts. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:56
-CHILDREN: Mmm! -Yummy! | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
-They look yum, don't they? -Yeah! | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
Now before we cook them, we've got to do something important. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
-Do you know what it is? -CHILDREN: Wash our hands! -That's right! | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
We need to wash our hands. So let's get going. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
# Roll up your sleeves Give your hands a wash | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
# With slippy-dippy soap Splish, splash, splosh! | 0:02:19 | 0:02:23
# Have you done your hands? Washed and dried | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
# Sleeves rolled up, apron tied | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
# What can you do? I can cook! # | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
Let's get started. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
The first thing we need to do for our Crumble Top Tarts, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
is make it snow. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
So it might be rainy outside, but it's going to be snowing in here. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:44
And I'll show you how to do it. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
We need to put that to the side, and we're going to use our dredger, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
which has got some flour in it, to sprinkle it all over our mats. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:54
-After three! -EVERYONE: One, two, three! | 0:02:54 | 0:02:58
-Woo-hoo! -Woo-hoo! Snow! | 0:02:58 | 0:03:02
And stop, everybody! | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
Make sure that you don't use all the flour, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
because we might need it later on. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
So, next we're going to do some rolling, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
but before we do rolling with the rolling pin, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
we're going to do a little rolling warm-up. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
So, everybody, roll up... | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
roll down... | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
and roll it all around. Woo! | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
Why don't you join in with us this time at home? | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
Roll up... | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
and roll down... | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
and roll it all around! | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
Whoa! | 0:03:34 | 0:03:35 | |
Woo! I'm a bit dizzy now! | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
And next, we're going to take some shortcrust pastry, | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
and we're going to put that in the middle of our mat, | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
and sprinkle a little bit more flour on top. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:48
Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle! | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle! | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
That's it! And then we're going to take our hands, | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
and put them out in front of us, | 0:03:55 | 0:03:56
and stretch our fingers as wide as you possibly can. | 0:03:56 | 0:04:01
These are your duck feet fingers. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
And we're going to put these on our rolling pin, | 0:04:04 | 0:04:07
on top of our shortcrust pastry, and we're going to roll it out. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:11
So, roll, roll... | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
Oh, look, it's sticking! | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
That means I need to put a little bit more flour on. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
And keep rolling until you've got a long strip. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
And then we're going to turn it round the other way. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
And roll again. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
And now that we've got our shortcrust pastry all rolled out, | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
we need to make four wiggly circles using our pastry cutter. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:40
Hey, look, if you put it like that, it's like a bracelet! | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
So, we put it on the pastry, push it down, and... | 0:04:43 | 0:04:47
wiggle it all around. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle! | 0:04:50 | 0:04:51
-Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle! -Mine's done! | 0:04:51 | 0:04:54
And then take it off, and we do another one next to it. | 0:04:54 | 0:04:57
So, put it on the pastry, push it down, and wiggle it all around! | 0:04:57 | 0:05:00
And then one underneath, and another one. So we've got four. | 0:05:00 | 0:05:04
And then I want you to take the rest of this pastry away. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:08
And then, we're going to take our little wiggly pastry circles, | 0:05:08 | 0:05:13
we're going to put them into our muffin cases like this. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:16
We lie it on top, and then we use our fingers to tuck it in, | 0:05:16 | 0:05:19
-like it's going to bed! -Good night! | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
I like all these different-coloured muffin cases, don't you? | 0:05:22 | 0:05:25
-Yeah, they're really pretty. -What ingredient | 0:05:25 | 0:05:27
are we going to need next for our Crumble Top Tarts? | 0:05:27 | 0:05:30
What is next? Well, let us see if you can guess what it could be. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:36
So, we've got lemon curd, some peas, and...orange juice. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:48
Hmm. What would you choose for our Crumble Top Tarts? | 0:05:48 | 0:05:51
OK, I'll give you some clues, | 0:05:51 | 0:05:53
and then you can try and guess what it might be. | 0:05:53 | 0:05:56
The special ingredient is made from fruit. | 0:05:56 | 0:06:00
Peas? | 0:06:00 | 0:06:01 | |
Peas are a vegetable! They're definitely not made from fruit! | 0:06:01 | 0:06:04
So we can take that one away. | 0:06:04 | 0:06:06
OK, here's another clue. | 0:06:08 | 0:06:10
So, the special ingredient is made from fruit, | 0:06:10 | 0:06:13
and it's also a fruit that is yellow. | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
Well, orange juice comes from oranges, and oranges are orange. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:20
So we can definitely take that one away, too, can't we? | 0:06:20 | 0:06:23
There we go. | 0:06:23 | 0:06:25
Which leaves us with lemon curd! | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
We're going to need some lemon curd in our Crumble Top tarts, | 0:06:28 | 0:06:31
and I went to find some. | 0:06:31 | 0:06:33
I've come to a factory in Tiptree in Essex, | 0:06:40 | 0:06:44
to find out how lemon curd is made, so let's go and have a look. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:47
The first thing you have to do is scrape the skin off the lemon, | 0:06:49 | 0:06:53
like this. | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
And it's called zesting. | 0:06:55 | 0:06:57
And this zest is going to add lots of flavour to the lemon curd. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:02
The next step is juicing, on this colourful little juicing machine. | 0:07:02 | 0:07:08
Wow! Look at this giant block of butter! | 0:07:09 | 0:07:12
This is the next ingredient and we need to slice it up. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:17
The butter, the lemon juice and the lemon zest | 0:07:20 | 0:07:23
all get added into this big machine, which is like a giant kettle. | 0:07:23 | 0:07:28
Not forgetting the egg, of course. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:31
And then everything gets heated up and cooked. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:34
And now's here the fun part. We're going to fill up | 0:07:35 | 0:07:40
all of these jars with the lemon curd. | 0:07:40 | 0:07:43
Carefully does it... | 0:07:43 | 0:07:46
The jars then get put onto this big machine | 0:07:46 | 0:07:50
where they get their lids put on. | 0:07:50 | 0:07:53
And here's the lemon curd all ready to use. | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
It's going to taste so good in our Crumble Top Tarts. | 0:07:56 | 0:08:02
Making lemon curd is so much fun. I really enjoyed doing it. | 0:08:02 | 0:08:07
And look, I've got the lemon curd here to use in our recipe. | 0:08:07 | 0:08:11
-We're going to play the Two Spoon Game. -Oh! | 0:08:11 | 0:08:15
-So we need two little spoons. Hello, spoons. -Hello! -Hello! | 0:08:15 | 0:08:20
And we're going to use one of them to scoop up the lemon curd | 0:08:20 | 0:08:25
and then we're going to use the other one to slide it off. | 0:08:25 | 0:08:30
Slide... Oh, look at that! | 0:08:30 | 0:08:34
-Ew, it's all sticky. -Mine is so sticky. | 0:08:34 | 0:08:40
-Are we ready for the next bit? -Yes! | 0:08:40 | 0:08:42
Over here, we've got a bowl of butter, which I've melted for you. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:47
It's just the right temperature for our recipe. Into this bowl | 0:08:47 | 0:08:52
we're going to put some lovely oats. I want you to measure out | 0:08:52 | 0:08:57
a big oats mountain. Oh, that's a good one, Lily-May. | 0:08:57 | 0:09:03
And then we give a really gentle little tap to make it flat. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:08
Really gently... | 0:09:08 | 0:09:10
That's it. | 0:09:10 | 0:09:11
Very carefully, bring it over to your bowl of melted butter | 0:09:11 | 0:09:16
and whoosh it in and then take another spoonful and do the same. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:21
-Then give the oats and melted butter a good mix. -Let's get mixing! | 0:09:21 | 0:09:26
Hurrah! | 0:09:26 | 0:09:28
Stop mixing...and take out your spoons. | 0:09:29 | 0:09:33
So next, we need to measure out two tablespoonfuls | 0:09:33 | 0:09:36
of self-raising flour. | 0:09:36 | 0:09:39
So we take a big mountainful of self-raising flour | 0:09:39 | 0:09:44
and pat until it's flat. | 0:09:44 | 0:09:47
-We're going to put that in with our oats. -Whoosh! | 0:09:47 | 0:09:50
-Have we all done the flour? -Yes. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:53
OK. Next, we need to add two dessert spoonfuls of caster sugar. | 0:09:53 | 0:09:59
-What's it going to do to our recipe? -It makes it all sparkly. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:02
I hope so. One... | 0:10:02 | 0:10:05
Two... It's like a sugar mountain. | 0:10:05 | 0:10:08
-Yes. -Jasper, what's next? | 0:10:08 | 0:10:12
Mixing! That's it. We're going to mix everything together in the bowl. | 0:10:14 | 0:10:19
Ooh, mine's turning into a crumbly mixture. | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
So has mine! | 0:10:25 | 0:10:26
-OK, who's mixed all their crumbly mixture? -Me! | 0:10:26 | 0:10:32
Next, we're going to get our fingers a little bit messy | 0:10:32 | 0:10:36
because we're going to pick up the crumbly mixture | 0:10:36 | 0:10:40
and sprinkle it into our muffin cases. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:42
Imagine a whole mountain made out of crumble. | 0:10:42 | 0:10:45
Ooh, yum! | 0:10:45 | 0:10:47
Fantastic! | 0:10:47 | 0:10:49
Everybody, you did it! | 0:10:49 | 0:10:52
You put all the ingredients together for your Crumble Top Tarts | 0:10:52 | 0:10:55
and you did it all by yourself. Well done, everybody! | 0:10:55 | 0:10:59
And now it's time to put them in the oven. | 0:10:59 | 0:11:03
But remember, ovens are hot, so don't go near - | 0:11:03 | 0:11:07
ask a grown-up to help you here. | 0:11:07 | 0:11:11
# Now we've cooked with you And had lots of fun | 0:11:12 | 0:11:16
# Let's tidy up and think of all the things | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
# That we have done There was | 0:11:19 | 0:11:20
-# Rolling -Cutting | 0:11:20 | 0:11:22
-# Patting -Mixing | 0:11:22 | 0:11:24
# Now, clearing any mess And putting things away | 0:11:24 | 0:11:28
# Is always fun to do At the end of the day. # | 0:11:28 | 0:11:31
And here are your Crumble Top Tarts and they are all cooked | 0:11:34 | 0:11:38
-and ready to eat. Are you excited? -ALL: Yes! | 0:11:38 | 0:11:42
I thought we could have a look before we go out this afternoon. | 0:11:42 | 0:11:46
Joseph, it's time to look at yours. Let's see. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:50
-Huh! -Wow! | 0:11:50 | 0:11:54
-How have they changed in the oven, Joseph? -They smell very nice. | 0:11:54 | 0:12:00
SHE LAUGHS | 0:12:00 | 0:12:01
Jasper, let's have a look at yours. | 0:12:01 | 0:12:05
-Wow! -Wow! | 0:12:05 | 0:12:08
Look at that one. It's exploded. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
OK, let's put the lids back on, everyone. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:15
We'll save them for later. | 0:12:15 | 0:12:17
We've travelled to you, we've cooked and had fun. | 0:12:17 | 0:12:20
-Now, let's have a party with everyone! -ALL: Yeah! | 0:12:20 | 0:12:24
You can come with us! Follow me. | 0:12:24 | 0:12:28
Here we are at the Seaside Museum | 0:12:30 | 0:12:33
and we've got our Crumble Top Tarts to share with everybody. Let's go! | 0:12:33 | 0:12:39
-Mum, look what I've made. -What did you make today? | 0:12:39 | 0:12:42
Open it and see. | 0:12:42 | 0:12:44
Oh, wow. | 0:12:44 | 0:12:45
Mmm. That's really nice. What was your favourite bit today? | 0:12:47 | 0:12:52
Rolling? | 0:12:52 | 0:12:54
Mmmmm! | 0:12:56 | 0:12:57
Lemon, isn't it? | 0:12:57 | 0:13:00
Mmmm. Yummy. | 0:13:00 | 0:13:03
Mmmmm. | 0:13:04 | 0:13:06
-Delicious. Can you taste the lemon curd in there? -Yes. | 0:13:06 | 0:13:11
They're very nice. Do you want to make some at home? | 0:13:11 | 0:13:16
-Yes, please. -Yeah? | 0:13:16 | 0:13:19
Joseph's mum, where do you think you could go next time | 0:13:19 | 0:13:22
-on a trip? -The beach? -We could go fishing! | 0:13:22 | 0:13:25
-Yeah. -That'd be really fun. Who wants to go fishing next time? -Me! | 0:13:25 | 0:13:32
-What can you do, everyone? -ALL: I can cook! | 0:13:32 | 0:13:36
With me and with you! | 0:13:36 | 0:13:39
And if you want to make some Crumble Top Tarts, | 0:13:39 | 0:13:42
you can find the recipe on our website. | 0:13:42 | 0:13:44
Shall we go and have a look around the Seaside Museum? | 0:13:48 | 0:13:51
Yes! | 0:13:51 | 0:13:52 | |
I wonder if there are any fun games to play? | 0:13:52 | 0:13:55
So, you spin, Joseph. | 0:13:58 | 0:13:59
