Let's get everything packed into the van, then we're off.

Here we are, near the windmill. I've been invited by Amelia.

She's doing some colouring with her friends. Hi, Amelia.

-Amelia, are we going to have a picnic by the windmill?

Yes. What are we going to cook?

Well, I have got the most perfect recipe. Follow me.

CHILDREN: Hurray!

Welcome to my outdoor kitchen!

Who's excited about doing some cooking?

ALL: Me!

This is what we're going to cook. Today's recipe is...

Picnic parkin!

CHILDREN: Mmm!

Delicious, huh?

First we've got to do something really important. Do you know what?

ALL: Wash our hands!

Yes, wash our hands! Come on, team!

# Roll up your sleeves Give your hands a wash

# With slippy-dippy soap Splish, splash, splosh

# Have you done your hands? Washed and dried

# Sleeves rolled up, apron tied

Let's get started on the recipe.

First, we're going to do some measuring, using my scales.

This weight weighs just as much as the flour that we need,

which we'll put over on the other side of the scales.

It's a bit like a see-saw in a playground.

-Have you been on a see-saw?

-Yeah.

Let's pretend to be a pair of scales. You've got it.

We put our arms out really wide, like this.

Then we put the weight on that side... Whooo-uh!

Then we put the flour on the other side...

Whooo-uh!

And we keep adding more or less...

Whooo-up!

..until the two sides are... the same.

When the scales are balanced,

this pointer will be right in the middle.

Amelia, can you help me?

Let's open the jar for you. And take that spoon.

And don't forget to join in at home. Off you go, Amelia.

Do we need more or less?

ALL: More!

-More or less?

-ALL: More!

-Oh!

-ALL: Yes!

-Now what do we need?

-ALL: More!

Look! Is it in the middle?

ALL: Yes!

We did it. Thanks for your help. And you were great too! Thanks.

Now we can put our flour in the bowl.

And to that we're going to add... a magic ingredient.

ALL: Whooo!

The magic ingredient is baking powder.

When you put baking powder in a recipe,

it magically makes everything rise up really, really big.

Shall we pretend to be the picnic parkin rising up in the oven?

And you can join in. We start down really low.

Then we go like this... Whooo-ooh!

Brilliant. Let's add baking powder to our flour.

There we go.

The next ingredient is some brown sugar.

As we put the sugar in, let's do...

the sugar shuffle.

Sugar shuffle, sugar shuffle, sugar shuffle!

Done it.

-The next ingredient we have to add his ginger.

-Yummy!

Very yummy, Ollie, and ginger has got a really strong smell.

Can you pick the ginger up and smell it?

It smells like gingerbread man.

-Yummy!

-I love gingerbread men.

Do you like gingerbread men too?

Let's add some ginger to our recipe,

and we use our spoon to give it a quick mix.

Now, everything in this is 2

so we'll call this bowl our dry bowl.

Let's put our dry bowl to the side and then bring over this bowl.

Now, in this bowl we've got some oats

that I've already soaked in some milk,

and, look, the oats have soaked up all the milk, like this.

SLURP!

POP!

Pretend to soak up the milk like the oats. You join in with us.

You pretend to be a big oat and then we go...

SLURP!

POP!

That's it!

We're going to use these oats in our recipe.

Next we add some vegetable oil.

We're going to use our good friend Mr Spoon to measure it.

So here he is. Hello, Mr Spoon.

-ALL: Hello!

-"Oh, hello, Katy."

-"Hello, everybody!" Are you ready?

-ALL GIGGLE

"I'm as ready as can be." Great, OK, let's go.

So we need to hold the cup like this

and we put our spoon into the cup and tip a load to fill it up.

And whoosh!

-Whoosh!

-Whoosh!

We want two desert spoonfuls of this.

-Whoosh!

-Whoosh!

-Whoosh!

And then just give everything a big mix.

What ingredient do you think we'll need next

Well, let us see if you can guess what it could be.

So we've got...

a lemon,

some golden syrup... Mmm, yum!

And some sugar. What would you choose for our picnic parkin?

I'll give you some clues and you can try and guess what it might be.

The special ingredient is...sweet.

Well, a lemon is sour, isn't it? So we can take that one away.

OK, here's another clue. The special ingredient is sweet

and it's a golden liquid.

Well, sugar is a solid, not a liquid,

so we can take that one away.

Which leaves us with yummy golden syrup.

We're going to need this in our picnic parkin

and I went to find out how it's made.

BEEP BEEP!

BEEP BEEP!

I'm here at a factory in Slough to see how they make golden syrup.

Golden syrup is made from sugar

and it gets delivered to the factory in these giant bags!

The sugar gets poured into a huge pot, which is full of boiling water.

It's called a vat.

In here, the sugar crystals magically disappear

and they turn into a runny liquid.

This machine makes the mixture all sparkly and golden,

and it takes out all the bubbles too.

Then it gets put into tins like this

and then the golden syrup is ready to eat.

I just need to put the lid on. There we go.

And it's ready to take away and use in our picnic parkin.

I have never seen such huge bags of sugar

as there were in that factory. It was incredible.

We've got our golden syrup and we're going to use it in the recipe.

And look at this, if we get our spoon

and put it into the golden syrup, we can gloop it. Look at this!

Wow, look!

OK, now we're going to use our spoon to scoop up the golden syrup

and put it into our wet bowl with our oats in it.

So there we go. Don't worry if you get a little bit on the edge.

-Urgh!

-Mine is sticking to my spoon!

-It's sticky!

Take REALLY big spoonfuls everyone, scoop to the bottom of your bowl.

-That's it, Amelia.

-Come on!

And then scoop it out and put it in, so we get every last bit.

OK, now use your spoon

to mix the golden syrup with the rest of the ingredients.

Because everything in this bowl is wet, we're going to call it the...

ALL: Wet bowl.

Next we pour the ingredients from the dry bowl into the wet bowl.

So after three, we are going to whoosh it into our bowl.

And you can join in with us. Ready? One, two, three...

ALL: Whoosh!

Now, there's a really good way to mix this.

We go round the roundabout

and down the slide.

The last ring we have to do in this recipe

is get the mixture into the loaf tin.

Get a big mountain full of it

and then take it to your loaf tin and gloop it in. Watch this.

Gloop!

Everyone get a big mountain of oats onto their spoon.

Woo-hoo, that's ginormous!

That's it and put it in, quick, quick, quick!
