Looks like everybody's getting ready.

Look, there's Charlie and Lewis with their friends Matilda and Mikey.

I've got the perfect thing to cook for sports day. Come on, follow me.

ALL: Yeah.

Welcome to my outdoor kitchen.

-Now who wants to know what we are going to cook today?

-ALL: Me.

OK, today's recipe is fruity prize pie.

-Doesn't that look delicious?

-Yes.

Before we do the cooking there is something really important

-we have to do first. What do you think it is?

-ALL: Wash our hands.

That's right, we've all got to wash our hands. Let's get going.

# Roll up your sleeves

# Give your hands a wash with slippy-dippy soap

# Splish splash splosh

# Have you done your hands? Washed and dried

# Sleeves rolled up, apron tied

# What can you do?

Let's get started.

The first thing we need for our fruity prize pie is snow

and for that is we need some flour. Everyone take your dredger

and we are going to make an enormous snowstorm.

One, two, three, go.

Spread it all over your mat, we want lots of snow. And, stop.

We need to take some shortcrust pastry and make it into a circle.

To do that we need to tap the corners of the square, like this,

tap, tap, tap, knock, knock, knock.

We knock and tap. Then put that onto your mat.

Then we need to make this circle into a flat circle.

Put your rolling pin on top of your pastry.

Put your hands out in front of you and spread your fingers

as wide as they can possibly go.

They look like duck feet.

Keep them wide and put them on your rolling pin.

Then we get rolling.

We roll and roll

and turn.

Can you do that with us? We roll, roll, roll

and turn.

You need to keep rolling it until it's about the size of

your two hands.

-What does yours look like, Mikey?

-Bunny face.

I hope it doesn't boing off anywhere into the bushes.

The next thing is to pick up our shortcrust pastry

and put it onto our baking tray.

There we go. Lovely.

The next ingredient is oats.

We have our oats and we're going to sprinkle them

into the middle of our shortcrust pastry circle to make an oat island.

Sprinkle it.

These oats are going to soak up the juice from the fruit

that we are going to add later, like this.

I wonder what's next? What is next?

Look what we've got. There's a lemon,

a carrot

and some cherries.

What would you choose for our fruity prize pie?

I know, I'll give you some clues.

This special ingredient grows on trees.

Well, carrots don't grow on trees, do they?

They grow out of the ground. It can't be that one.

0K, here's another clue. The special ingredient is red.

Well, lemons are yellow so it can't be lemons.

So it must be cherries.

We're going to need some ripe cherries for our fruity prize pie

and I went to find some.

I have come to a farm in Sittingbourne, in Kent,

to look for some cherries. Let's go and find some.

Cherries grow on trees

and lots of cherry trees altogether in a field is a cherry orchard.

These cherries are red which means they're ripe

and ready to eat.

Once they've been picked they are taken to the farm.

This is where the cherries are sorted

and any damaged ones are taken out.

Oh, there's one!

The cherries are put into plastic boxes called punnets.

Then they are taken over here to be weighed.

Then they go into this big machine to have their lids put on.

These cherries look delicious. I need to give them a wash

and then we can use them in our fruity prize pie.

That was fun! I enjoyed picking those cherries.

We've got them right here and some of the stalks are still attached.

We need to pick those stalks off before we do anything else.

Before we do, if we hold them up like this

they look a little bit like insect antennae.

SHE BUZZES

-Who can pretend to be a little insect?

-I'm an alien. I'm an alien.

-What noise does an alien make?

-La-la, la-la.

-I'm a butterfly.

-What noise does a butterfly make?

-Flap, flap, flap.

-Shall we use our cherries now?

-ALL: Yes.

0K, let's take the stalks off and put the cherries into this bag.

There we go.

-Pop.

-Pop.

-Pop.

-Pop.

Then lay the bag flat on your mat.

We need a rolling pin.

Holding it like that, we are going to squash the cherries.

Look at all the juices coming out, that's brilliant.

-Lewis, what's happening to your cherries?

-They've gone squishy.

Put your rolling pins down.

We need to tip all of these cherries into our bowl.

Look at those juices.

Then, I am going to collect all of your plastic bags for you.

Hand me your bags. Urrgh! They are all sticky.

The next thing we need to do is pick out all the cherry stones.

Put your hands into your cherries and let's go on a cherry stone hunt.

I've found one.

We don't want to eat these stones because they might hurt our teeth.

I've got all of them.

Look at my fingers! They're red.

Just give them a quick wipe.

We've got our squished cherries, what we need to add now

is some Demerara sugar.

Take your spoon, put it into the sugar and load it up.

Put it into your bowl with your cherries.

The next thing we need to add to our cherries is some cinnamon.

We need our pinchy parrot.

Get out your pinchy parrot by putting your thumb down

-and your fingers on top and...

-SHE SQUAWKS

..and pinchy parrot is ready to take a pinch of cinnamon.

Sprinkle it in with your sugar and your cherries.

Then give it a quick stir.

What's happened?

-It's all gone red.

-Why has it all gone red?

-The cherry juice has covered it.

-You can stir with us.

You get your bowl of cherries and your spoon

and we go stir, stir, stir.

-Has everyone finished mixing?

-ALL: Yes.

We're ready to add our cherries to our pastry and our oats.

Using your spoon, we're going to scoop up the cherries

and bring them over to our oaty island.

It looks like a volcano erupting.

-What sound would a volcano erupting make?

-Pwwwurb!

Next we're going to use our pastry brush.

What we want to do is make the beach part around our oaty island.

all wet and we're going to use our cherry juice.

Dip your brush in then paint around our oaty island.

The sea is red.

-Yeah.

-It's volcano sea. Lovely.

Now we need to do some giant pinching.

Everyone go pinch, pinch, pinch.

Lift the pastry up on each side

and then give it a pinch.

Look at that. Then you can turn the tray around, lift the sides up

and give it a big pinch.

Look at that. All right,

-who is ready for the final touch?

-ALL: Me.

Take your brush and paint the sides of your fruity prize pie.

-OK, has everyone finished?

-ALL: Yes.

Brilliant, well, that is it is. You did it.

You put the ingredients together for your fruity prize pie.

You did it all by yourself.

Now I am going to put them in the oven for you.

Remember ovens are hot, so don't go near.

Ask a grown-up to help you here.
