0:21:040:21:05

-Lewis, there you are! Are these all your friends?

-Yes.

0:21:050:21:09

-And what's your name?

0:21:090:21:11

-Hello, Alfie. And what's your name?

0:21:110:21:14

-Hiya, John. And what's your name at the end there?

-Kesime.

0:21:140:21:17

Kesime, so good to meet all of you.

0:21:170:21:20

-Lewis, what are we going to do today?

-Cook something spicy.

0:21:200:21:24

I have got a delicious recipe that you are going to love.

0:21:240:21:28

-Do you want to come and cook it with me?

-ALL: Yes!

0:21:280:21:30

Come on then, team, let's go.

0:21:300:21:32

Welcome to my outdoor kitchen.

0:21:350:21:38

Who wants to know what we're going to cook today?

0:21:380:21:41

ALL: Me!

0:21:410:21:43

Today's recipe is delicious.

0:21:430:21:45

It's falafel footballs.

0:21:450:21:48

ALL: Mmmm!

0:21:480:21:50

They look good, don't they?

0:21:500:21:51

But before we get started on the cooking,

0:21:510:21:54

we've got to do something really, really important.

0:21:540:21:58

-What do you think it is?

-ALL: Wash our hands!

0:21:580:22:01

That's right, we've got to wash our hands. Let's go.

0:22:010:22:04

# Roll up your sleeves Give your hands a wash

0:22:080:22:11

# With slippy dippy soap Splish, splash, splosh

0:22:110:22:14

# Have you done your hands? Washed and dried?

0:22:140:22:17

# Sleeves rolled up, apron tied

0:22:170:22:20

# What can you do? #

0:22:200:22:21

I can cook!

0:22:210:22:23

Let's get started.

0:22:260:22:27

Now, falafels are delicious

0:22:270:22:29

and they're made from squashed beans, herbs and spices.

0:22:290:22:34

And we're going to be using red kidney beans

0:22:340:22:37

and they come from the same family as broad beans,

0:22:370:22:40

but there's loads of different types of beans, aren't there?

0:22:400:22:44

There's runner beans.

0:22:440:22:45

Can you pretend to be a runner bean like this?

0:22:450:22:48

Who can be a runner bean? Woo! Run, run, run, run!

0:22:480:22:52

Broad beans.

0:22:520:22:54

And how about a string bean, like this?

0:22:540:22:57

And of course, there's jelly beans.

0:22:570:23:01

We're going to use red kidney beans

0:23:040:23:07

and we're going to squash them up,

0:23:070:23:09

but before we do, we're going to add some of this to our bag.

0:23:090:23:13

-Does anyone know what it is?

-Runner bean.

0:23:130:23:16

A runner bean?! It's not running away.

0:23:160:23:19

It's garlic and garlic has a really strong smell.

0:23:190:23:24

Let's smell it.

0:23:240:23:25

-This smells lovely.

-It smells delicious, doesn't it?

0:23:260:23:31

So let's put the garlic into our bag of red kidney beans.

0:23:310:23:35

And next, it's time to do some squashing.

0:23:360:23:40

So let's warm up first and you can do that with us. We go like this...

0:23:400:23:44

squash, squash, squash, squash,

0:23:440:23:47

squash, squash. That's it.

0:23:470:23:50

We're going to use our rolling the pins to do squashing.

0:23:500:23:53

Everyone hold your rolling pin in front of you,

0:23:530:23:55

-like a pair of bicycle handlebars.

-Ha, ha!

0:23:550:23:59

That's it, Kesime's got it.

0:23:590:24:01

Let's get squashing!

0:24:010:24:03

-Squash.

-Squash

0:24:030:24:06

HE STRAINS

0:24:070:24:09

KATY LAUGHS

0:24:100:24:12

-I squashed the garlic.

-Well done, Lewis, you're brilliant.

0:24:120:24:17

Mine looks so funny. Look at that!

0:24:170:24:20

What does yours look like?

0:24:200:24:22

-It looks like a square pizza.

-KATY LAUGHS

0:24:220:24:25

Mine looks really funny.

0:24:250:24:27

Next we need to empty all these squashed beans

0:24:280:24:31

and the garlic into this bowl.

0:24:310:24:33

So open it up, be very careful and pour it in.

0:24:330:24:36

It's coming out, look.

0:24:380:24:39

-It's funny.

-I got mine.

0:24:390:24:42

And then we can recycle our bags.

0:24:420:24:45

Great, that's it and how about yours, Alfie?

0:24:460:24:49

I'll put these in the recycle bin, there we go.

0:24:490:24:52

Next, we need to add spring onions.

0:24:520:24:56

Who can be the springiest onion? Ready?

0:24:560:24:59

One, two, three!

0:24:590:25:02

Boing, boing, boing, boing, boing...

0:25:020:25:06

I am springed out.

0:25:070:25:10

Let's add the spring onions to the bowl.

0:25:100:25:12

-There we go, sprinkle, sprinkle.

-There!

0:25:120:25:16

I wonder what we're going to need next in our falafel footballs?

0:25:160:25:20

Well, let us see if you can guess what it could be...

0:25:200:25:26

We've got some chocolate,

0:25:260:25:29

some courgettes, and fresh coriander.

0:25:290:25:33

What would you choose for our falafel footballs?

0:25:330:25:36

I know, I'll give you some clues and you can guess what it might be.

0:25:360:25:40

Here's the first clue - the special ingredient is green.

0:25:400:25:45

Chocolate's brown so we can definitely take that away, can't we?

0:25:450:25:49

OK, here's the second clue -

0:25:490:25:51

the special ingredient is green and it's a herb.

0:25:510:25:55

Courgettes are a vegetable, aren't they?

0:25:550:25:57

So we can take that away as well.

0:25:570:25:59

Which leaves us with fresh coriander.

0:25:590:26:02

We're going to need some fresh coriander for our falafel footballs.

0:26:020:26:05

Coriander is something that you can easily grow

0:26:120:26:16

and you don't need a garden to do it. I'll show you how.

0:26:160:26:20

You need to start with some coriander seeds, like these.

0:26:200:26:23

And next, we need to plant them.

0:26:240:26:26

I've got a little yoghurt pot here that I've drawn a little picture on

0:26:260:26:32

and I'm going to plant the seeds deep down in the soil, like this.

0:26:320:26:36

That keeps them nice and warm.

0:26:360:26:38

Like you and I, all plants need lots of water to keep them

0:26:380:26:42

really healthy, so I'm going to give my seeds a little drink.

0:26:420:26:46

If we keep them somewhere warm, after a couple of weeks,

0:26:490:26:53

little green shoots will start to come through, like these ones here.

0:26:530:26:57

The leaves are so tiny. Look at them.

0:26:570:27:00

If we look after these green shoots,

0:27:000:27:02

the coriander is going to grow really big, like this one here!

0:27:020:27:06

Look how big the leaves are. It looks fantastic.

0:27:060:27:10

I think we're going to use some of this in our falafel footballs.

0:27:100:27:14

Growing coriander is great fun and look,

0:27:160:27:19

here's the coriander that I grew and it's all washed

0:27:190:27:23

and it's ready to eat.

0:27:230:27:24

Let's get back to making our football falafels.

0:27:240:27:28

Has everyone got some coriander in their cup?

0:27:280:27:30

ALL: Yes!

0:27:300:27:32

-That smells really, really, really strong.

-It does smell really strong.

0:27:320:27:37

Gosh, this is going to taste delicious in our falafel.

0:27:370:27:40

We're going to snip up our coriander using our scissors.

0:27:400:27:43

But remember, be safe with scissors.

0:27:430:27:46

Everybody knows that you point them down towards your..?

0:27:460:27:49

-ALL: Toes!

-Your toes, that's it.

0:27:490:27:52

-So come on everyone.

-ALL: Let's get snipping!

0:27:520:27:55

So we hold the handle of the cup, snip, snip, snip.

0:27:550:27:59

That's it.

0:28:030:28:04

Once you've chopped up all of your coriander,

0:28:040:28:07

we need to add it to our bean mash.

0:28:070:28:10

Next, we need to add some of this.

0:28:130:28:15

It's called cumin and it's made from seeds

0:28:150:28:18

which have been ground up.

0:28:180:28:19

Can you do that?

0:28:190:28:21

-Ground up!

-That's it.

0:28:210:28:24

So we're going to add some cumin to our falafels.

0:28:240:28:27

put it into the bowl. Oh, Look at that big mountain.

0:28:270:28:30

Then use your finger to tap it down, like this.

0:28:300:28:33

Pat, pat, pat, like a teeny-weeny little sandcastle.

0:28:330:28:39

Then put it into your bowl.

0:28:390:28:40

Then we're going to add some plain flour from this little pot here.

0:28:400:28:45

Let's sprinkle it in, everyone. Ready?

0:28:450:28:47

Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.

0:28:470:28:50

Ooh, it looks like snow!

0:28:500:28:52

And next, it's time for my favourite part.

0:28:520:28:55

Are you ready to get messy?

0:28:550:28:58

ALL: Yes!

0:28:580:29:01

One, two, three!

0:29:010:29:03

Squish, squash, everything together.

0:29:030:29:08

Squish!

0:29:080:29:11

Eeee!

0:29:110:29:12

We need to squash everything into one big, football.

0:29:120:29:17

There we go.

0:29:170:29:18

We're going to put a line down the middle of our mixture

0:29:180:29:21

and split it into two halves.

0:29:210:29:24

That's it. Then take each half out and put it on the mat

0:29:240:29:29

and we pick this bit up and we put it on the mat.

0:29:290:29:33

Then we're going to halve both of these.

0:29:330:29:35

There's two...

0:29:350:29:37

..three, four.

0:29:390:29:41

Careful, because they might break up so try and keep them together,

0:29:410:29:45

you've got to squeeze them. Four falafel footballs.

0:29:450:29:48

All we need to do now is make them into a football shape.

0:29:480:29:51

So we have to start by rolling them like a football.

0:29:510:29:56

-Hey, Lewis is doing a great job!

-Squeeze it and roll it.

0:29:560:30:00

-KATY LAUGHS

-Got it, Lewis!

0:30:000:30:03

Roly-poly, roly-poly.

0:30:030:30:06

And once it's rolled, you put it on the tray.

0:30:060:30:09

-I've done it.

-Everyone give your hands a wipe.

0:30:090:30:14

The last thing we need to do is take this brush, dip it in the oil

0:30:140:30:19

and paint our falafel footballs.

0:30:190:30:23

Kesime, what do you think this will to do to our falafel footballs?

0:30:230:30:26

It's going to make it nice and shiny.

0:30:260:30:30

You bet it's going to make them shiny.

0:30:300:30:32

They look brilliant, everyone. Put your brushes down and that is it.

0:30:320:30:37

You did it, team!

0:30:370:30:38

You put the ingredients together for your falafel footballs

0:30:380:30:41

all by yourself. Well done.

0:30:410:30:44

Now it's time to put them in the oven to cook.

0:30:440:30:48

Remember, ovens are hot, so don't go near.

0:30:480:30:52

Ask a grown-up to help you here.

0:30:520:30:55

# Now we've cooked with you and had lots of fun

0:30:550:30:59

# Let's tidy up and think of all the things that we have done. #

0:30:590:31:03

-There was...

-Squashing.

0:31:030:31:05

-Snipping.

-Mixing.

-Sprinkling.

0:31:050:31:08

# Now clearing any mess and putting things away

0:31:080:31:12

# Is always fun to do at the end of the day! #

0:31:120:31:15

And here they are, team, all ready to eat.

0:31:170:31:20

-They smell absolutely fantastic. Shall we have a look at them?

-Yes.

0:31:200:31:26

Right, Lewis, let's have a look at yours.

0:31:260:31:28

-(GASPS)

-Lovely.

0:31:280:31:30

-What ingredients can you see poking out of them?

-Spring onions

0:31:300:31:34

-and garlic.

-Can you tell me what colours you can see?

0:31:340:31:37

Green, black, white and red.

0:31:370:31:41

-There's a whole rainbow of colours in these falafel.

-Yes.

0:31:410:31:44

Let's have a look at Kesime's.

0:31:440:31:46

Oh, Kesime, they look brilliant.

0:31:460:31:49

-What do you think they look like?

-They look like a real football.

0:31:490:31:52

They look like a real football?

0:31:520:31:54

-But we wouldn't want to kick that, would we?

-No.

0:31:540:31:57

What do they smell like, Kesime?

0:31:570:31:59

They smell of kidney beans and spring onions.

0:31:590:32:02

-Do they smell fantastic or amazing?

-Amazing.

0:32:020:32:05

Right, let's put the lids on top and we'll go and play some football.

0:32:050:32:10

We've travelled to you, cooked and had fun,

0:32:100:32:12

now let's have a party with everyone!

0:32:120:32:15

-Yes!

-Come on, follow me!

0:32:150:32:18

Well, here we are and we've got our lovely food to share with everyone.

0:32:200:32:25

-I made it all on my own.

-Wow. Can I have some, please?

0:32:250:32:29

-You can have this bit.

-That's nice.

0:32:290:32:32

-What else did you like then?

-I liked...

0:32:320:32:35

smashing the beans.

0:32:350:32:38

-Oh, look!

-Oh, wow! Here we go.

0:32:380:32:42

-Ooh!

-Oh, that's lovely, isn't it?

0:32:420:32:45

-There you go, Mummy.

-Ah, thank you very much.

0:32:450:32:48

Mmm.

0:32:480:32:51

Well done, Kesime.

0:32:510:32:53

Alfie, what are you going to make the next time you do some cooking?

0:32:530:32:56

-Honey football.

-Honey football? That sounds amazing.

0:32:560:33:00

-I'm going to make garlic bread for you.

-Thanks, Lewis.

0:33:000:33:02

Can I have a really big piece? I really do love garlic bread a lot.

0:33:020:33:06

-Here you go.

-Oh!

0:33:060:33:09

So what can you do, everyone?

0:33:090:33:12

-ALL: I can cook!

-With me and..?

-With you.
