Well, here I am at the zoo,

and I've just bumped into Zara and all of her friends.

Oh, I have a delicious recipe we can make.

How about we have a picnic in the zoo afterwards,

Welcome, everyone, to my outdoor kitchen. Who is excited?

Do you want to know what recipe we're going to cook today?

Today's recipe is chunky cheese loaf.

But before we get started on the cooking,

we've got to do something first.

-Does anyone know what it is?

We need to wash our hands of course. Let's go.

Right then, let's get started on our chunky cheese loaf.

First we need flour and butter, we have that in our bowls.

We're going to add this...

And...it's a magic ingredient.

Because when you put this into a recipe, it makes everything rise up.

Shall we pretend to rise up like the cheese loaf in the oven?

We start down small like this, and then we rise up. Ready?

Let's add the baking powder to the flour and butter.

So sprinkle, sprinkle. Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.

Now it's time to get messy. Who wants to get messy?

We need to do some tickling. Show me your tickle fingers.

Tickle, tickle, tickle.

We're going to dive into the bottom of the bowl. Ready?

Whoop!

Right down to the bottom and squeeze it all together, and then tickle it.

Tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle.

Mine's getting squidgy.

Now you need to tickle it until all the butter disappears.

Look at my monster hands. Rar!

I know. Ooh!

-Have you made all the butter disappear?

-Yes!

Let's give our hands a wipe, team.

Next we're going to add some apples.

I've peeled these apples and I've cored them.

I've chopped them into bite-sized pieces.

-How big do you think a bite-sized piece is?

-Definitely that size. Shall we add our apples to our bowl?

-Yeah.

It's raining apples! It's a very fruity dish this one, isn't it?

-I think we should do the fruity dance.

What ingredient are we going to need next

for our chunky cheese loaf. What is next?

Well, let us see if you can guess what it could be.

So, we've got some orange juice, some Cheddar cheese,

oh, and some yummy chocolate, too.

What would you choose for our cheese loaf?

This special ingredient comes from cows.

Orange juice doesn't come from cows, does it?

Orange juice comes from fruit.

Oranges, of course. We can take that one away.

So, here's another clue.

This special ingredient comes from cows and it's savoury.

Well, chocolate's sweet, isn't it? Not savoury.

So we can take that one away as well.

Which leaves us with Cheddar cheese. Yummy.

We're going to need Cheddar cheese in our chunky cheese loaf.

And I went to find some.

I've come to Somerset near a place called Cheddar to find out

how they make Cheddar cheese.

First, milk is collected from cows.

It's heated up so that it's safe to use.

And this is called pasteurising.

A special ingredient is added called starter culture.

This sours the milk and gives the cheese its lovely flavour.

Another ingredient is added called rennet

which turns the milk into curds and whey.

This is the curd.

Looks a bit like scrambled eggs.

Over here is the whey.

It's a yellowy liquid.

The curds are then turned and stacked

so that everything sticks together.

And this is called Cheddaring.

The curds get squashed and it pops out as a big lump of cheese!

Look at that!

The blocks are then kept in these wooden boxes.

The older the cheese gets, the stronger the flavour gets.

I do love cheese. We've got to grate this cheese using our grater.

What we're going to do is put the cheese in the top of our grater.

Put yours in, too, Zara.

Then put the lid on top, Yasmina, and you can push the lid down.

One person is going to grate

and the other person's going to push down on the top.

-Push it down, Billy, that's it. Keep turning.

-It's falling out.

Keep going.

I haven't got enough strength to turn this wheel.

You can do some grating with us at home.

Get your grater, like this, and then turn the handle, like this.

Grate, grate, grate.

Keep going, Zara. You're nearly there.

I think you're done. Yasmina, just get your fork

and scrape out the rest of the cheese.

Careful of your fingers - it's sharp.

Great grating, team!

Right, we're going to add our grated cheese to our bowl.

But, but, but we're going to keep a little bit.

That's going to be our surprise cheese for later.

-So everyone sprinkle some cheese in.

-Smelly cheese!

We'll put that to the side. The next thing we'll do is crack an egg.

So let's take our egg and hold the handle of our cup like this

and we go knock, knock, knock

and you make a little crack, see?

Oh, hey, that's a good one.

Use your fingers to open up the crack.

Open it up a bit more. That's it, Billy.

Everyone wipe your hands.

Right, who's ready to do some whisking?

-Yeah!

-I thought you might be.

One, two, three, go!

Try and go as fast as you can.

-Who can go whizz?

-Whizz!

And stop.

Oh, that's lovely. Look at that gloopy mixture. Gloop! Great.

We're going to add this to our bowl. Ready?

-Splash.

-Splash!

Take your big wooden spoon and we're going to mix everything up.

Round the roundabout

and down the slide.

Everyone say, "Apple juice to the rescue!"

-Apple juice to the rescue!

-Our mixture's too dry,

so we need to add a little bit more liquid to it.

So we're going to use some but not all of the apple juice.

You've got it. So let's pour in a little bit, ready?

And...stop.

Really dig down deep to the bottom of your bowl.

Once you've got a really sticky mixture, we can stop mixing.

So, now we need to get this very sticky mixture into our loaf tin.

So we take a big spoonful on our wooden spoon

and then we slide it off using the other spoon.

-Watch this. Slide.

-Scoop and slide.

You got it. Scope and slide.

That's a very big spoonful.

I'm scrapping for all of the bits.

Once you've done that, you'll use your spoon

to push the mixture into all the corners of the loaf tin, like this.

Push, push, push. It makes it flat, you see.

-It's quite hard to get it in place.

-Because it's extremely sticky.

-Yeah.

I'm done!

-The last thing we have to do is get our surprise cheese.

-Surprise!

We'll sprinkle it on the top.

-Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.

-Sprinkle. Put it all in.

It's trying to run away.

-I'm done now.

-I'm done, too. And that's it. You did it.

You put the ingredients together for the chunky cheese loaf by yourself.

Now it's time to put it in the oven to cook.

But remember, ovens are hot so don't go near.
