honey tea loaf!

We're about ready to make a start,

but there's one thing we need to do first.

To make a honey tea loaf, you'll need dried mixed fruit, like this.

And now we're going to add to this, some cold tea, which I made earlier.

You don't want to drink this, it's cold.

The fruit is going to soak up all of the tea.

Honey! The missing ingredient is honey. Did you work it out?

We're going to need honey in our loaf.

Honey is made by bees,

but let's go and find out some more about how it's made. Come on!

Honey comes from honey bees.

The bees collect a juice called nectar from flowers.

They take it to their homes, called hives.

Here, they store the nectar in special honeycombs,

where they keep it while it turns into honey.

The beekeeper, who looks after the bees,

comes to collect the honey and puts it into big barrels.

When it's ready to go to the shops, the honey is put into jars,

so that it can be sold. And then, we can eat it!

CHILDREN LAUGH

That was fun, wasn't it?

While we've been finding out about honey, the fruit

has soaked up all the tea, like a sponge. Look!

-Can you see it, everyone?

-Yeah!

-What's happened to it?

It's all gone and the fruit sucked it up.

And it's got a bit bigger.

-Got a bit fat, hasn't it?

-Yeah.

-The fruit's got fat.

All we need to do is add our honey.

OK, let's pour it out onto our spoon.

Now, this is really sticky.

This is like a honey slide.

It's quite fun!

Oh, look! Gloop it onto all of our mixed fruit.

Now, we're going to add another one. Can you buzz as it comes out?

BUZZING

Next, you're going to take an egg and a cup

and crack it open. Knock on the door.

Ready? Knock knock, knock!

And then use our fingers to carefully open it up

and out comes the egg!

Right, you guys have a go now.

Crack, crack, crack!

Perfect!

Give it a good knock, David. Knock on the door.

That's it. Open it up with your hands.

That's it! Brilliant! He-he-he!

And now we need to take a fork and mix it about.

So, give it a good old whisk.

Can you pretend to stir at home? Like this!

Keep mixing it. That's it.

I think that's just about done.

Let's pour our egg into our honey mixture.

-Do you think it's time to give it a big mix?

-Yes!

Let's grab our spoon and get mixing.

Now mine are all floating!

The raisins are going at the top.

It's just the other way round.

Who can make a whizz sound as they mix round their bowl?

Whizz!

If you stir really fast, it looks like there's a hole in the middle.

Oh, yeah!

And now you're going to need a bowl of plain flour,

and we're going to add some of this white powder.

It's called baking powder.

It's the magic ingredient that's going to make our honey tea loaf

rise up when we put it in the oven.

Pretend to rise up like this.

Whooo-oop!

Can you do that at home?

You'll only need one teaspoon.

Pop the teaspoon in.

And then use your finger to pat it down and make it really flat.

That's it, well done.

And then put that into your bowl.

We need to get our pinchy fingers out. Can you go...?

I love pinchy fingers!

And take a pinch of mixed spice.

This is going to add lots of yummy flavour to our honey tea loaf.

-And now what do you think we're going to do?

-Mix it.

Let's give it a mix.

There we go. I think that's all mixed in.

We're going to add our honey mixture into our dry bowl.

Can you pour it in like me?

Wheee!

Make sure you get all of the fruit out.

We don't want to leave any in our bowl.

Now we're going to take our spoon and mix everything together,

just like a cement mixer.

Give everything a good stir.

Do it slowly cos it will come out.

You've got it. That's exactly right.

Oh, no! I've spilled it all over my mat.

I am so messy.

Are you a pup that's messy? Messy pup?

Messy pup? I think I probably am a messy pup.

CHILDREN GIGGLE

Now your mixture should be just like this.

Really sticky. Look how sticky mine is!

-How sticky is yours?

-Really sticky.

Now we need to take a loaf tin that can go in the oven,

and we're going to do some painting.

-Who likes painting?

-ALL: Me!

Do you like painting as well?

We're gonna take a little brush like this, dip it in a bit of oil,

and then paint all the sides of our dish.

Make sure it's all covered, guys.

-Make sure it doesn't stick.

-That's right.

This is so that our honey tea loaf

won't stick to the sides when we put it in the oven.

It makes it all shiny, doesn't it?

Mine is super-duper-ruper shiny!

Tip your mixture into the loaf tin.

And I think this will be a sticky business.

Ooh, it's going...!

Mine is so sticky, it's just sticking to the spoon!

Now it's time to put your honey tea loaf in a warm oven for 25 minutes.

But with ovens beware because it's hot in there.
