Kito and the Rain Little Big Cat

Little Big Cat!

Hello! Or Jambo, as we say here.

Welcome to the wide, grassy plains of Africa,

and a very special place, called the Masai Mara.

This is home to all of our Little Big Cats,

and is a land full of stories.

It is a hot, dry day today.

But keep your eye on those clouds,

because they can change very quickly.

All the animals here are used to the heat, and have very

different ways of keeping cool.

The ostriches are walking around, trying to cool off in the breeze.

The sleepy crocodile is sunbathing in the cool, muddy water.

And the stripy zebras are swishing away the flies with their tails.

I wonder which of our Little Big Cats will be keeping cool today.

Will it be the la-a-a-zy lions?

The speedy cheetahs?

Or the lonesome leopards?

It's my story!

It's Kito, the cheetah cub! Jambo, Kito!

Jambo!

It's dry, hot and sunny today.

My favourite!

This is my Mama - Mama Doa.

We love sitting up here, cos we can see all the animals.

Like the big, grey elephants.

Wow! How did they find all that water?!

SLURP! SLURP!

Imagine drinking through your nose! Hee hee hee!

Their trunks are like great, big, bendy straws.

SLURP!

Oh! Mama's off.

Where are we going, Mama? I hope it's for a run!

I love running when it's hot and dry.

We can run and run and nobody can catch us!

SNORT! GRUNT!

Running is what us cheetahs do best.

And I'm going to be as quick as my Mama when I grow up.

Weeeeeeeeee!

And this grass is so bouncy!

Bounce! Bounce! Bounce!

SQUEAK!

But Mama, why is there no sunshine over there?

The sky is so dark.

Is it the night time?

Mama Doa explains that the clouds have covered the sun,

and because they look so dark and heavy,

there is a rainstorm on the way!

THUNDER RUMBLES

Whoa! What's that loud noise? And that big, white flash?

What's happening, Mama?

Mama Doa tells Kito it's perfectly normal.

It's thunder and lightning.

Look at the size of the raindrops, Mama.

They're huge!

All the animals are getting absolutely soaked.

Even the giant elephant is getting wet.

How long will the rain last, Mama? My fur is getting all wet!

Can we go and find somewhere to keep dry?

Yuck! So much rain.

This explains how all the elephants found all that water to drink.

Mama, wait for me, Mama.

There aren't many good hiding places around here.

What about over there?

No, that's no good.

Oh! What about here?

Could we hide in this old tree trunk?

No. There just isn't anywhere to escape the rain.

I can't run anywhere when it's this wet and slippy.

When will all the rain stop? I'd like to run again!

Kito can't wait for the sun to come back.

All of the animals are getting very wet.

But, in another part of the Masai Mara,

for one of our cubs the rain is fun!

The usually lazy lions are not so lazy now!

They are up and about, playing in the cool rain.

Jambo, Ndogo.

Jambo!

Playing in the rain is my favourite thing in the whole world.

Running in the puddles is great fun,

me and my friends can get muddy and wet.

All the jumping and splishing and splashing!

I love it!

Hey! There's a bird!

Hi, little bird!

Do you want to come and join in our rain games?

Oh no! He's flown away.

Wow. I wonder how he manages to fly with such wet wings.

Oh, well. Where were we?

I'll just get back to playing with my friends instead.

The lion cubs are having great fun playing in the wet weather.

But I hope the rain washes all that mud off!

Eventually, the rainstorm clears away

and the hot sun returns to dry out our little cubs.

I wonder if Kito, our cheetah cub, has dried off in the sunshine?

Aha, yes! There he is.

He certainly looks much happier now.

Yay! It's dry and sunny again. My favourite weather.

Come on, Mama, let's go and play.

I want to practise my running, so I can be a speedy cheetah,

just like you!

Yippeee!

What a wet day it has been in the Masai Mara.

Kito has learnt all about thunderstorms

and he's very happy the rain has finally stopped.

Our Little Big Cats have enjoyed telling us their stories today.

And there are many, many more stories to tell.

But for now, it is time to say, "Goodbye!"
