Hey, guys. Welcome to today's jam session.

0:00:100:00:13

Today I'm going to do True Love

0:00:130:00:15

and I'm pretty excited, so here's my rendition.

0:00:150:00:19

# I slept alone in the van

0:00:420:00:44

# You brought me breakfast in bed

0:00:440:00:48

# I wrote it down in a song

0:00:480:00:51

# I see the way you dance

0:00:530:00:56

# If I don't get my chance

0:00:560:00:59

# I don't know how I'd go on

0:00:590:01:02

# Cos the one thing I know

0:01:050:01:08

# Is that it's true love at first sight

0:01:080:01:14

# And I'm so afraid to say

0:01:140:01:17

# I know you'll run away

0:01:170:01:20

# And it's true love at first sight

0:01:200:01:25

# Can you see it too?

0:01:250:01:28

# Can you see it too?

0:01:300:01:34

# I see your golden hair

0:01:430:01:46

# All I can do is stare

0:01:460:01:49

# So I look down on the floor

0:01:490:01:52

# I wanna take you away

0:01:540:01:56

# Oh, let's go anyplace

0:01:560:01:59

# I just can't wait any more

0:01:590:02:03

# Cos the one thing I know

0:02:050:02:09

# Is that it's true love at first sight

0:02:090:02:15

# And I'm so afraid to say

0:02:150:02:18

# I know you'll run away

0:02:180:02:21

# And it's true love at first sight

0:02:210:02:26

# Can you see it too?

0:02:260:02:28

# Oh, can you see it too?

0:02:310:02:36

# Can you see it too? #

Thank you, guys, so much, for watching.

0:02:460:02:48

Hey, guys. Welcome to today's lesson in the lounge.

0:02:570:03:00

You just saw me sing my version of True Love so I'd like to talk

0:03:000:03:03

to you a little bit about how I arranged it

0:03:030:03:05

to be different from the original version,

0:03:050:03:07

because, as much as I love the original,

0:03:070:03:09

I didn't exactly feel like it suited my genre, so I

0:03:090:03:11

thought I would take it, change it up a little bit, so it just

0:03:110:03:15

kind of suited who I am as a musician.

0:03:150:03:18

The original was totally different and it wasn't in that key,

0:03:180:03:20

so just as a little sample, here's what that sounded like.

0:03:200:03:23

# I slept alone in the van

0:03:230:03:25

# You brought me breakfast in bed

0:03:250:03:27

# I wrote it down in a song... #

0:03:270:03:31

Now, I thought that was a little bit low for me, so I decided to

0:03:310:03:33

just put it up a little bit, so...

0:03:330:03:36

# But the one thing I know... #

0:03:400:03:43

So, once I got there, I was playing the chords...

0:03:430:03:46

Like, it's pretty, right?

0:03:460:03:47

But what can I do to make it different?

0:03:470:03:50

So if this is the original chord...

0:03:500:03:51

MAJOR CHORD

0:03:510:03:53

I decided to make it sound like this.

0:03:530:03:55

MAJOR 7th CHORD It's a little bit funkier, right?

0:03:550:03:58

And I thought it suited my style a bit, cos it had a more dreamy...

0:03:580:04:02

A dreamy feel to it.

0:04:020:04:03

And then also, I was like, "Hmm, what else can I do?"

0:04:030:04:05

So I decided to change it rhythmically as well.

0:04:050:04:07

Make it a little slower, a little vibeier, you know.

0:04:070:04:11

I just felt like that kind of meshed well with my voice and my

0:04:110:04:15

genre, so just kind of some key points of when it comes to

0:04:150:04:18

making an arrangement, definitely know your own voice, find a range

0:04:180:04:21

that works for you, transpose it up or down if you need to.

0:04:210:04:25

Add some different aspects to your chords and then finally,

0:04:250:04:28

if you feel like the melody needs to be adapted, go for it.

0:04:280:04:31

And that's how you arrange a song for you.

0:04:310:04:32

I hope you enjoyed this lesson and I'll see you soon.
