Episode 9 Meet the Kittens

This time on Meet The Kittens, they're getting collars.

11 collars for 11 kittens. That'll help us tell them apart.

Awesome. It's black. It matches my fur.

Pink! I hope I'm a girl.

I love blue. It's one of my favourite seven colours.

I wanted the blue one.

And I wanted the red one.

I wanted metal studs.

I think my collar's got measles.

It's really important to make sure there's room for your fingers

underneath the collar. It mustn't be too tight or the kittens

might not be able to breathe properly.

But it mustn't be too loose either.

And these collars have a quick release

in case they catch on anything. Then they'll pop open by themselves.

Don't take it off. You've only just put it on.

Is this the pale blue or the sky blue? Because I asked for sky blue.

I think I might have got your one. I don't like it.

Red. That's rad!

The kittens didn't mind having them put on,

but now they're not quite so sure.

I'm sure, all right. I hate it!

What's that ringing noise? Oh!

Bells. What a bummer!

Oh, now the birds will hear me coming.

I wish this was a dinner bell.

The kittens are now nine weeks old and have to be weighed again.

Don't worry, that kitten's not invisible!

They're just weighing the collar.

6g. We must remember to take that off the kitten's weight.

Wow! Those kittens are getting pretty big.

I think this bowl might have shrunk. Can you get a bigger one, please?

Look, you can see I don't fit.

This kitten is weighing in at nearly 900g.

Don't forget to take off the 6g.

Growing at different rates is normal now they're older.

The kittens are now allowed a look out the front door.

Hang on, why are we in prison?

It's a cat gate to stop you running away

and picking up germs or getting hurt.

Or, more likely, getting into trouble.

Oh, well, at least we get fed in prison.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Mums Cleo and Coco and the 11 kittens live in the countryside.

There are lots of animals here, like these horses.

There are also little animals like birds and moles and rats.

Today, Cleo has caught a wild rabbit.

"Wild"? It was livid.

I was going for one of those horses, but they're massive.

Although most of their food comes from a can or a packet,

cats are hunting animals.

Oh, I wish I'd got a lighter one.

This thing weighs a tonne.

Sometimes they catch things and bring them home for the kittens.

If your cat wears a collar with a bell, it may stop them

catching wild animals. Or at least warn them that a cat is nearby.

What's that, Mum?

Cleo's brought it into the house for the kittens to see and possibly eat.

That'll be a nice surprise for the owner.

Be warned - if you want a cat, you have to be prepared

for this kind of hunting behaviour.

-I've caught a rabbit for you. Aren't I a great mum?

-Yeah, lovely.

I'll have that later after play time.

First we need a bigger bowl, now we need a bigger climbing frame!

For a treat the kittens are going to get a brush.

But first, the owner's daughter uses hand gel

to make sure her hands are clean.

First a rabbit, now a brush? What a brilliant day.

I am stoked to be stroked.

Girl, you are the man!

While the kittens are being brushed, Cleo and Coco

are whisked off to the vets.

Another road trip. I just hope it's not the vets again.

-Oh, pooh. It is the vets.

-CLEO SIGHS

Cute as they are, there just aren't enough homes for all the kittens

that are born every year.

So mums Coco and Cleo are having a small operation called spaying

to make sure they can't have any more kittens.

While her youngsters are getting brushed, poor Cleo is getting shaved!

She's first and she's been given an injection to make her sleep.

The operation is very quick.

Now it's Coco's turn.

Though her eyes are open, she's actually out for the count.

Which is probably just as well.

In two shakes of a cat's tail, they're back home.

-CHILD:

-Oh, they're really skinny.

Urgh, that vet stinks.

Then it's dinner time.

Mmm. Great grub. I'm glad they didn't put me on "nil by mouth."

This food has never tasted better.

Yum, yum, yum, yum.

What's next for Coco and Cleo and their 11 kittens?

Seriously, it better not be the vets again.

But I'll think about that tomorrow.

We'll have to wait and find out next time.
