Episode 7 Meet the Pups

DOG BARKS

PUPPIES BARK

Today, on Meet The Pups, the pups are seven weeks old

and finally ready to go outside.

But will they be up for it?

Or will this be a big step too far?

Here come the humans now. Right, shoes off,

hands washed - you know the routine.

This time, the pups can't wait to meet the humans.

It's remarkable how confident they've grown

since the first visit four weeks ago.

Although Morgan's now allowed to play with the pups,

he finds them too much when they're all together.

To be honest, I think he'd rather play with the humans.

"Shall I bring my ball in yet, hey?"

"Everything OK?"

"We love the human pups."

"They smell pretty, don't they?"

"Come on, let me in, let me in!

"The humans came to see me, too."

Playing with the pups

is the best way to help their confidence grow

and to socialise them.

It also builds up their physical strength.

The pups have been indoors for the past seven weeks but, finally,

it's time for them to go outside.

The garden's been chosen rather than the park

because it's a controlled space.

There are no strange dogs and the owners have made sure

that there are no harmful or poisonous plants

that the pups can chew on. To us, it's a garden.

To the pups, well, it's like walking on the moon.

THEY SNIFF

Bonzo is the first to explore.

He's then joined by Biscuit.

But even she seems daunted by this challenge.

"Ooh, I can smell weird things."

PUPPY YELPS

"Betsy, Biscuit, come on."

The new sights, sounds and smells are overwhelming the pups

so Lola shows them the way.

Surprisingly, it's Bonzo and Betsy who run out first.

Biscuit still isn't sure.

She wants to join in but she remains cautious.

"You two are completely barking, aren't you? Hey?"

Betsy and Bonzo, meanwhile, are really getting their teeth into it.

Betsy's loving the garden

and already doing some, um, flower-arranging(!)

"Come on, Biscuit, it's mad fun out 'ere!"

"It's wicked, it really is."

With a bit of encouragement from her siblings,

Biscuit finally takes her first big steps into the outside world.

# And I'm loving every second, minute, hour

# Bigger, better, stronger... #

PUPPY GROWLS

While the pups are getting familiar with the outdoors,

it seems like an ideal time to introduce

some other, vital dog accessories -

the collar and the lead.

They need to get used to them as they'll be leaving Lola and Morgan

for new homes in just over a week's time.

Bonzo doesn't seem to mind the collar at all.

"No, it's cool."

Biscuit isn't flustered either.

"Oh, that is lush. I love blue. Look at that."

But Betsy is having second thoughts.

"I wanted a diamond one!

"Why haven't I got a diamond one?"

By putting two fingers behind the collar,

we're making sure it's neither too loose and can fall off,

or too tight, which could choke her.

"Oh, that is well itchy, that is."

"Oh, no, I got it now. Oh. Oh!"

"Oh, no!"

It looks like it's contagious. Perhaps it's a flea collar!

Now the collars are fitted snugly,

it's time to try out the lead.

Quick test - see if it's edible!

And he's soon taking himself off for a walk.

Betsy's next. She's found an interesting way of walking...

on her belly.

Someone better fetch a skateboard.

Finally, it's Biscuit.

She also thinks it's something to eat

and sits down for a picnic.

Yum-yum.

This has gone brilliantly. If the pups keep reacting this bravely,

the whole outside thing is going to be a walk in the park. Literally!

Playing outside has frazzled the pups.

But there's one last job for the children before they go home -

getting the pups accustomed to being brushed.

All that rolling around has matted their fur

and any bits of grass and mud have to be removed,

especially from their ears.

I didn't think anything would top playing outside for the pups,

but, um, well, it seems I was wrong.

Time to leave. I think they're in safe hands.

Ey-up - a fan's got through security.

Some people will do anything to kiss a pup star!

Having a puppy is a huge time-consuming responsibility.
