Hello! It's making time.

Get ready for an arty adventure around the world.

Today, we fly off to South America

to build some life-size crocodiles.

And we show you how to make your own pet sock-o-dile.

We find out how to make a funny apple surprise in just one minute.

But first, we go wild with a safari silhouette picture in South Africa.

And we're on safari. Oh, how exciting!

Let's see if we can make some new animal friends.

There are so many brilliant animals in South Africa,

and they are all different shapes.

And sizes.

Wow, look! A giraffe!

Ho-ho! She's almost as tall as me.

Oh, seeing that terrific, tall giraffe has given me a great idea.

Let's try something.

Try making a super safari silhouette picture for a great effect.

Hello, Mini Makers. Now, who's going to help me today?

Oh, great, Luca is on his way to help us make our picture.

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it.

Excellent, the Marvellous Maker Case has become a marvellous

making table.

Now we just need some arty things to make our picture.

We'll need...

Some paper or card.

A pen.

Some scissors.

And last but not least, of course...

We'll need my teddy bear, Maker Bear.

Wait a minute,

we don't need my teddy bear.

Scrappz, I knew it was you. How did you get here?

I don't really know how.

Oh, I see.

Look, we don't need my teddy bear, but we do need a glue stick.

Can you go and find one for me?

Oh, oh, and take Maker Bear with you. Here he comes. That's it.

Oh, well done, Scrappz.

That's just what we need, thank you.

We've got a glue stick.

Excellent. We've got everything we need.

Although, it does feel like something is missing.

Do you know what it is?

No.

-Over here, Mister Maker.

-Of course, Luca!

It's you, my friend. Thank you so much for coming.

You're just in time to help me make our picture.

It's a safari silhouette picture

with super silhouettes of giraffes.

-Are you ready?

-Yes.

-Good.

Are you ready?

Fantastic. Let's get making.

Now, the first thing we're going to do is draw whatever animal

we would like in our picture.

Of course, we're going to draw giraffes today.

But you can draw whatever you like.

Now, Luca, tell me, what do giraffes look like?

-They've got a really long neck.

-And they're very tall, aren't they?

So, let's draw a nice tall giraffe with a long neck.

Now, let's start off with a nice long line.

That will be our giraffe's long neck.

A curve for the legs.

Then a head on top.

Two ears.

And a tail.

Then fatten up the neck and body.

-What have we got?

-A giraffe.

-A giraffe, that's right.

Now we need to very carefully cut this out.

-And we have got to be careful because scissors are...

-Sharp.

That's right. You have watched this before, haven't you?

Now, we need to make some more of these, so get some different

coloured paper, Luca, and then I am going to put our giraffe on top.

Grab a pen.

And then draw around the giraffe.

And we've got another giraffe!

Now, be very careful and can you cut out that purple giraffe?

I'm going to make a pink one.

Make as many giraffes as you like in the same way

using different colours.

Look! Lots of giraffes.

So, Luca, can you look after all of our giraffes? Here they come.

But we do need this.

This is our background paper.

I think this is going to look nice because it's blue,

and that will look like the sky.

Yes, that's right.

Now, you can place your giraffes wherever you like.

It looks really good

if you turn some of the giraffes the other way round,

mix up the colours and even overlap them.

When you're happy with your picture, stick everything down.

It's minute-make time in the UK.

I'm on my way.

Here we go.

-It's minute-make time, everyone!

-ALL: Yeah!

Oh, look, someone has left an apple for me.

That's nice. I'm feeling quite hungry. Oh, no, look!

It's a maggot!

But don't worry, everybody, it's just a pretend maggot.

And actually, it's a pretend apple as well.

This is what we are going to make today.

It's a tasty-looking apple with a make-believe maggot.

It's an apple surprise.

Now, we can make this in just one minute by using these arty things.

Let's have a look.

We've got a rubber glove,

a glue stick,

a pen, some scissors,

some sticky dots and some fun foam.

Now, do you think it's possible to make this apple surprise

-in just one minute?

-ALL: No way!

Well, I think I can. I'm going to have to be...

very quick. But don't worry, I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

-Are you ready?

-ALL: Yes!

Are you ready?

Fantastic, let's make it in a minute.

-ALL: Three, two, one!

-Start the clock!

The first thing is to fold the fun foam in half,

then take our scissors and very carefully cut out an apple shape.

I'm careful with these scissors because they are...

-ALL: Sharp!

-That's right.

We are going to make a small snip there

and another snip on the other side.

That hole needs to be big enough to push my finger through.

I'm going to put some glue on there and then we'll stick on

our leaf shape that I'll cut now.

Here we go. Round and round it goes.

There's a nice leaf there.

Right, and stick on a leaf. Let's now get some stickers.

And we're going to draw some dots.

These are going to be the eyes of our maggot.

We make a maggot by very carefully cutting out

the finger of an old rubber glove, like that.

I can put that on to my finger and then push it through the hole.

Now I've just got to stick on the stickers.

There's one eye. Just one more to go and then I have made it!

ALL: Hurray!

Phew! I did it just in time. But if you...

If you have got more than a minute, you can try all sorts of ideas.

How about a mouse?

With carved ears, teeth and a pom-pom nose,

nibbling on a big piece of cheese.

Or how about this open book with a stripy bookworm

and a ribbon bookmark?

Or you could even make a cuckoo clock with a feathery bird

and a folded paper beak.

What lovely ideas. Why don't you try one?

Here's a reminder of how to do it.

Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

Carefully cut an apple and leaf shape from fun foam.

Cut a hole in the apple for your maggot.

And glue on the leaf.

Then carefully, cut a finger from an old rubber glove

and push it through the hole in the apple.

Add dots to stickers for eyes and stick them on.

And your apple surprise is finished.

I covered the box in silver paper.

I put some white paper in for the steam

and I cut cardboard for the wheels.

I made it! I told you I would. Right, let's get some high-fives.

Now, what picture would you like to make today?

ALL: Crocodiles.

A crocodile picture, I like the sound of that.

-Now, what do crocodiles look like?

-Green.

Green, they are green.

-Big teeth.

-And big, sharp teeth. And how many crocodiles shall we make?

-Two.

-Two, OK. Now, what else will we have in our picture?

-Dragonflies.

-Dragonflies, great idea.

-We're ready, aren't we?

-ALL: Yes!

Let's make it together.

BOTH: We are making a crocodile.

These are the flowers.

And here is the background.

We are having great fun making our big crocodile picture.

And that has just given me an idea.

Why don't you make something, too?

Try making your own pet sock crocodile.

Or you could call it a sock-o-dile.

You will need a clean plastic bottle and kitchen foil,

sticky tape and a sock,

paper and a paper cup,

card and a pen,

scissors, glue and stickers.

First, scrunch paper into two balls.

And tape them on to the bottom of a plastic bottle.

Roll foil around the top of the bottle.

And tape it into place.

Now pull a sock over the top of a paper cup.

And push it into the bottom of the sock.

Next, push the bottle into the sock like this.

Then make a tail by bending the foil inside.

Now draw a foot on to some card.

And carefully cut it out.

Then draw around it to make three more feet.

And cut these out, too.

Take a strip of card and cut jagged teeth down the edge.

Now stick the card teeth around the front of the sock-o-dile.

And stick two feet on each side of the body.

Add stickers for nostrils.

And eyes.

Your sock-o-dile is finished and ready to play with.

What a great idea! Why don't you try it?

But right now, let's see how our big picture is coming along.

Squeak, squeak, squeak.

Nearly finished.

-Oh, well done, everyone.

Now that's what I call a snappy picture.
