I think we CAN make a picture with a newspaper. Let's have a look.

Oh no, Dev! The wind's blown away our newspaper.

Let's catch the pages. Quick! Come on!

There is a page up here. And this has just given me a great idea.

Let's try something.

Try making a scrap paper tree using old newspaper

and brightly coloured wrapping paper.

BOTH: Let's make it!

But first we'll need somewhere to make it.

WHOOSH

Ho-ho! And we'll also need things from the doodle drawers!

-Hold that, please.

-OK.

-I'll be back soon.

Some scissors, a pen and a glue stick.

A big piece of paper and some stickers.

We also need some scraps of wrapping paper,

and when you need scraps you call SCRAPPZ!

HONK

-Br-r-r! Mmm!

-Scrappz!

-Eh, Scrappz? Hello?

-Hmm-mmm.

-Scrappz! We need scraps of wrapping paper. Can you help?

-Br-r-r! OK!

Oh, thank you.

Oh, well done, Scrappz!

OK, Dev, let's make a scrap paper picture like this one here.

Oh, look. It's a little bluebird sitting in a newspaper tree.

-Very nice. All right then, Dev. Are you ready?

-Yes.

-Great!

Are YOU ready? Fantastic. Let's get making.

Now the first thing we're going to do is cut up our newspaper

into lots of pieces. Now you can help me with this, Dev,

but remember to be careful with scissors

-because they are...

-Sharp.

That's right!

-Some paper for you...

-Thank you!

..and some scissors. Let's get cutting.

Now we can glue the newspaper pieces down into the shape of a tree.

We're going to use thick strips for the tree trunk,

and thinner strips for the branches. All right then, Dev,

let's stick these pieces onto a nice sheet of coloured paper.

We've also cut out and stuck down some bushes and some

flower stalks, but our picture is missing something. What is it, Dev?

-Leaves?

-I think you're right. It's leaves. Ha-ha! Well done, Dev.

-What can we make our leaves from?

-Wrapping paper.

Wrapping paper indeed! You take that piece,

and I am going to take this nice

spotty piece here, and let's cut out some small leaf shapes.

Look at all of these colourful leaves.

I'll leave these over here with you to look after

cos we need to bring back in our background paper

and we're going to glue the leaves onto the branches of our tree.

Onto the bushes, and onto the flower stalks.

Let's get gluing.

It's looking good already.

Your picture will really stand out

if you draw a pen line all the way around the edges.

-Now, for a finishing touch, let's add...

-A bluebird.

..a bluebird! We can find one here.

It's a larger leaf shape that's blue, and it needs some glue.

Can you put some on the back of that for me?

Now we can add white stickers for eyes,

an orange triangle for a beak and extra detail with a pen.

There. We're finished. It's a super scrap paper picture!

You can make all sorts of pictures in the same way!

How about wrapping paper birds, sitting in a newspaper nest

on a newspaper branch?

Or what about this night time newspaper forest,

with wrapping paper owls, and a newspaper moon and stars.

Scrap paper pictures. Why don't you try one today?

They're a great way to reuse old paper and newspaper.

-Aw, this is a lovely day for a drive out in the Makermobile.

Minute-make time!

Hey! It's minute-make time. I'm on my way.

I'm here.

Ha-ha! It's minute-make time, everyone!

ALL: Yeah!

-Now, do you like singing?

-ALL: Yes!

-Do you like dancing?

-ALL: Yes!

-Do you want ME to sing and dance?

-ALL: No!

Oh. Well, later, if you're lucky,

I might sing like a pop star with...this!

It's a minute microphone. You can make one of those in just one minute

by using these things.

A piece of netting. The type that fruit and vegetables come in.

We've also got some tissue paper, some scissors,

a bottle top, some modelling clay a cardboard tube, a glue stick,

some kitchen foil and some sparkly paper.

Now, do you think it's possible to make this minute microphone

-in just one minute?

-ALL: No way!

Well, let's find out. I'll have to be very quick but

don't worry, I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

-Are you ready?

-ALL: Yes!

Ha-ha, are YOU ready? Brilliant. Let's make it in a minute.

ALL: Three, two, one...GO!

OK. The first thing we're going to do is get our foil

and scrunch it into a ball. Then we're going to get

our coloured tissue paper and wrap that around as well.

And then we're going to get our netting and put everything in there.

Let's wrap it up. And then we're going to twist it there like that.

Now let's get some modelling clay and we are going to hold everything

in place by squidging the clay just there.

Now I need my scissors. Be careful because they are...

ALL: Sharp!

Let's snip off these bits here. There we go, so that's nice and neat

Now I need to get my sparkly paper and some glue.

Let's glue that side, and that edge.

I'm going to wrap the cardboard tube in the sparkly paper. Like that.

There's our tube. Now, if I get the bottle top

and put that in there and that in there,

-we've got a minute microphone!

-ALL: Yeah!

Ha-ha! Phew! I made it, just!

If you've got MORE than a minute why not try some other ideas?

How about a microphone with lots of shiny cardboard strips?

Or why not make a golden microphone with a twirly pattern?

Or you could even make a superstar starry microphone,

with lots of stars and sparkles.

Minute microphones, made in just a minute.

Why don't you try it? Here's a reminder of how to do it.

Let's take another look...

Scrunch kitchen foil into a ball.

Wrap it in tissue paper and some netting.

Twist the end and keep it in place with modelling clay.

Trim off the extra netting.

Now glue sparkly paper around a cardboard tube.

Push the top of the microphone into a bottle top and push this

into the end of the tube and your pop star microphone is finished.

Why don't you try and make it in a minute?

And then you can sing like a pop star, just like me!

ALL: No-o-o-o!

Oh, all right!

Actually, look at the time! I'm afraid, I'm so sorry,

-but I won't be able to sing for you today.

-ALL: Yeah!

Hello! Are you ready, for a BIG surprise?

These Mini Makers are not expecting me.

Let's go and meet them.

It's lovely to meet you. Now, do you like playing games?

ALL: Yeah!

Ho-ho, yes! There are so many great games to play,

but today I think we should go bowling.

Mini Makers, how about we make a big bowling alley?

-ALL: Yeah!

-All right, then.

Joshua, Marshall, Samuel, Calia and Beth...

All right, Mini Makers. We're going to make a big bowling alley.

-What do you see at a bowling alley?

-Big balls.

-That's right!

-Now, what are we going to roll our bowling balls at?

-Skittles?

Skittles! That's right. But what can we make them from?

-With these big tubes.

-That's a great idea and we can paint these,

but we might need to make bigger ones. Can you find bigger tubes?

Oh, that would work! And what about that? Pass that one over. Well done.

These are BIG tubes! I think we're ready, aren't we?

-Yeah!

-Come on, then! Let's make it!

These are the skittles.

-ALL: Hello!

Can I help you, Beth?

Hang on, I'll do this, and then spin it round.

BOTH: We are making the bowling balls.

And this is the background.

Can you finish off the decoration for me?

This big surprise has been great fun! Why don't you join in,

and make your very own Mini-make?

Try making a super set of skittles.

Make them and have fun with them.

You will need...

some clean plastic drinks bottles,

glue, coloured tissue paper, googly eyes,

a ball, sticky dots, a paintbrush and a pen.

First cover a bottle with gloopy glue.

Stick on coloured tissue paper pieces...

..then leave it to dry.

Now decorate it with sticky dots.

Glue on some googly eyes.

And draw a mouth with a felt tip pen.

Your skittle is finished.

And you can make as many as you like in lots of different colours.

Line them up and try to knock them down with a ball. Str-rike!

Now THEY are super skittles!

But I wonder how our big bowling alley is coming along.

I might need a little bit of help here.

No, don't take it from the bottom! Oh, no!
