# Mr Maker comes to town! #

0:00:410:00:43

Hello! Lovely to see you.

0:00:480:00:50

I'm out in the Makermobile.

0:00:500:00:52

I wonder what we'll see today.

0:00:520:00:54

Tocky here!

0:00:540:00:56

Mini Maker message!

0:00:560:00:58

Hello, I'm Malachi.

0:00:580:01:00

Hello, Malachi. Can I help you today?

0:01:000:01:03

Yes, please, Mr Maker.

0:01:030:01:04

I'll be right with you!

0:01:040:01:06

This must be the place.

0:01:220:01:25

-Hello, Malachi.

-Hello.

-Lovely to meet you.

0:01:280:01:32

Now, how can I help you today?

0:01:320:01:33

What can we make with this cardboard tube?

0:01:330:01:36

That's a good question.

0:01:360:01:38

What can we make with this cardboard tube?

0:01:380:01:42

Hmm.

0:01:420:01:43

Maybe we could make some fancy cardboard jewellery.

0:01:430:01:47

Ha-ha!

0:01:470:01:48

Malachi, what do you think?

0:01:480:01:50

-Silly.

-Silly?

0:01:500:01:53

Yeah, perhaps you're right.

0:01:530:01:55

Doesn't really suit me, does it?

0:01:550:01:57

But all these colourful pieces from the cardboard tube

0:01:570:02:01

have given me a great idea.

0:02:010:02:03

Ho-ho!

0:02:040:02:05

Let's try something.

0:02:050:02:08

Try using a cardboard tube

0:02:090:02:11

to make a colourful cardboard tube peacock.

0:02:110:02:15

-BOTH:

-Let's make it!

0:02:150:02:17

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it.

0:02:170:02:20

We need some things from the Doodle Drawers!

0:02:240:02:27

Hold this, please. I'll be back soon.

0:02:270:02:30

Some glue and a pencil.

0:02:350:02:36

Some stickers, a pen and some scissors.

0:02:400:02:43

A sheet of coloured paper.

0:02:460:02:49

What has Scraps done with all the tissue paper? Hmph!

0:02:510:02:54

HOOT!

0:02:540:02:56

Brr! Honk!

0:02:560:02:58

-Oh, Scraps, are those for me?

-Uh-huh.

0:02:580:03:01

Oh, how lovely.

0:03:010:03:03

Have you any tissue paper left?

0:03:030:03:05

We need some for our picture.

0:03:050:03:07

-Scraps! Scraps!

-Hmm?

0:03:070:03:08

Can you put these in a nice vase for me? Thank you.

0:03:080:03:13

Oh, tissue paper.

0:03:130:03:14

Thank you, Scraps.

0:03:140:03:16

-Nyang!

-Bye!

0:03:160:03:17

And we also need a brush and a plate.

0:03:200:03:24

OK, then, Malachi, let's make a cardboard tube peacock

0:03:240:03:29

like this one here.

0:03:290:03:31

Wow! Very colourful.

0:03:310:03:33

-All right, then, Malachi. Are you ready?

-Yes.

0:03:330:03:36

Good. Are you ready?

0:03:360:03:39

Fantastic! Let's get making.

0:03:390:03:41

The first thing we're going to do

0:03:410:03:43

is flatten our cardboard tube.

0:03:430:03:45

You can help with this, Malachi.

0:03:450:03:47

There we go. That's it, push it down.

0:03:470:03:50

That's it. That's it, a bit more.

0:03:510:03:53

Very good. Well done.

0:03:530:03:55

And now, we need to very carefully

0:03:550:03:58

cut this tube up into little pieces.

0:03:580:04:00

But I need to be careful with scissors, because they are...

0:04:000:04:04

Sharp!

0:04:040:04:05

That's right.

0:04:050:04:07

SCISSORS GROWL

0:04:070:04:09

Here are all our pieces, Malachi.

0:04:140:04:16

I'm going to leave them over here

0:04:160:04:18

-for you to look after. Is that all right?

-Yes.

-Thank you.

0:04:180:04:22

Because it's time to bring in our paper,

0:04:220:04:26

and I'm going to take a plate

0:04:260:04:28

and turn it upside-down

0:04:280:04:30

and then draw around the top of it with a pencil.

0:04:320:04:35

Now this should give us

0:04:380:04:41

a curved shape.

0:04:410:04:43

Then, squeeze gloopy glue all the way along the line.

0:04:430:04:47

Ha-ha!

0:04:470:04:48

And now, with a brush,

0:04:480:04:50

we can spread the gloopy glue inside the curve shape.

0:04:500:04:55

Next, we can stick the cardboard tube pieces

0:05:000:05:03

into the glue all the way around the top edge.

0:05:030:05:08

And put one cardboard piece in the middle

0:05:100:05:12

for the peacock's body.

0:05:120:05:15

Malachi, our peacock needs a beak.

0:05:150:05:17

-Would you like to make one?

-Yes.

-Excellent.

0:05:170:05:20

That's it, take one piece

0:05:200:05:22

and very carefully cut it in half.

0:05:220:05:25

Well done, I'll have that piece. Excellent.

0:05:250:05:28

This is our beak.

0:05:280:05:30

Now fill in all of the gaps

0:05:310:05:33

with more cardboard tube pieces.

0:05:330:05:37

Next, we'll colour in our peacock

0:05:370:05:40

by scrunching up coloured tissue paper.

0:05:400:05:43

Let's use blue for the peacock's body,

0:05:430:05:46

yellow for the beak,

0:05:460:05:48

and then green and purple for the feathers.

0:05:480:05:52

All right, Malachi, let's get scrunching!

0:05:520:05:55

Colour in the cardboard shapes

0:05:560:05:59

with the scrunched-up tissue.

0:05:590:06:02

Look, Malachi, we've got

0:06:040:06:06

one cardboard piece left.

0:06:060:06:09

So can you cut that in half for me?

0:06:090:06:12

Thank you.

0:06:120:06:14

And put some glue on one half for the legs.

0:06:140:06:17

Excellent.

0:06:170:06:18

And stick the other half on

0:06:190:06:22

for feathers on the head.

0:06:220:06:24

Now it's looking good,

0:06:240:06:25

-but what's our peacock missing?

-Eyes.

0:06:250:06:28

Eyes, that's right!

0:06:280:06:30

So let's draw dots

0:06:300:06:32

in the middle of some stickers for eyes,

0:06:320:06:35

and stick them on.

0:06:350:06:37

There! We're all finished.

0:06:380:06:41

It's a fantastic colourful cardboard tube peacock.

0:06:410:06:45

You can make all kinds of pictures using cardboard tubes.

0:06:450:06:50

How about making a black-and-white penguin with orange feet?

0:06:500:06:54

Or you could even try a colourful parrot

0:06:540:06:58

with red, blue and green feathers.

0:06:580:07:01

Cardboard tube pictures! Why don't you try one today?

0:07:010:07:05

So, Malachi, did you like what we made out of your cardboard tube?

0:07:050:07:09

-Yes.

-Brilliant. We made it!

0:07:090:07:12

And now your home is where the art is. High-five!

0:07:120:07:16

Ha-ha!

0:07:160:07:17

What a perfect peacock picture.

0:07:170:07:21

Well done, Malachi. Bye!

0:07:210:07:23

Ah! Heh-heh, lovely. Hee-hee!

0:07:240:07:27

It's brilliant being out and about in the Makermobile.

0:07:270:07:30

There's always so much to see and do.

0:07:300:07:33

-Hee-hee!

-Heh-heh!

-Hee-hee!

0:07:330:07:34

BUMPS AND BANGS

0:07:340:07:36

What's that noise?

0:07:360:07:37

-Hee-hee!

-Oh-ho!

0:07:370:07:39

Guess who that is.

0:07:390:07:41

-Whee!

-Whoo!

-Whoa!

0:07:410:07:43

-Hey!

-Whoa!

-Hee-hee!

0:07:430:07:46

# I am a shape!

0:07:480:07:50

# La-la-la-la

0:07:500:07:51

-# I am a shape!

-La-la-la-la

0:07:530:07:56

# I am a circle

0:07:580:08:00

# I am a triangle

0:08:030:08:05

# I am a square

0:08:070:08:10

# I am a rectangle

0:08:120:08:15

# I am a shape!

0:08:220:08:24

# I am a shape!

0:08:270:08:28

# I am a shape!

0:08:310:08:34

# I am a shape!

0:08:360:08:38

# I am a triangle. #

0:08:450:08:47

What are the triangles making?

0:08:490:08:52

Any ideas?

0:09:010:09:03

It's a rocket!

0:09:030:09:06

Well done, Shapes.

0:09:060:09:08

It's time to get back in the Doodle Drawers.

0:09:080:09:12

Oh, this is a lovely day for a drive out in the Makermobile, isn't it?

0:09:180:09:23

Squawk! Minute-make time!

0:09:230:09:26

Hey, it's minute-make time.

0:09:260:09:28

I'm on my way!

0:09:280:09:31

We've arrived!

0:09:420:09:45

It's minute-make time, everyone!

0:09:480:09:51

ALL: Yeah!

0:09:510:09:54

And today, we're going to make one of these.

0:09:540:09:57

It's a pom-pom pine cone.

0:09:570:10:00

It will look really nice hanging up as a decoration in your home.

0:10:000:10:04

We can make one of these in just one minute by using these things.

0:10:040:10:09

A piece of wool, some colourful pom-poms in a bowl,

0:10:090:10:12

Some gloopy PVA glue,

0:10:120:10:16

and we'll also need a pine cone.

0:10:160:10:18

You can find one of those in an art and craft shop.

0:10:180:10:21

I'll be back very soon!

0:10:210:10:23

I've got it!

0:10:270:10:29

Here is our lovely pine cone.

0:10:290:10:32

Now, do you think it's possible to make this pom-pom pine cone

0:10:320:10:37

in just one minute?

0:10:370:10:40

-ALL: No way!

-Well, let's find out.

0:10:400:10:43

I'll have to be quick, but don't worry,

0:10:430:10:46

I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:10:460:10:49

-Are you ready?

-ALL: Yes!

0:10:490:10:51

Are you ready?

0:10:510:10:53

Brilliant. Let's make it in a minute.

0:10:530:10:56

ALL: Three, two, one, go!

0:10:560:10:58

Start the clock!

0:10:580:11:00

Let's get our pine cone and tie the wool

0:11:000:11:04

around the top like this.

0:11:040:11:06

Tie it in a knot.

0:11:060:11:08

This is fiddly so ask an adult for help.

0:11:080:11:13

There it is!

0:11:130:11:15

Now we get out bowl of colourful pom-poms

0:11:150:11:17

and our gloopy glue and squeeze it in the gaps

0:11:170:11:21

of our pine cone.

0:11:210:11:24

All the way round. It's a bit messy!

0:11:240:11:28

Here we go! Brilliant.

0:11:280:11:31

Now push in as many of the pom-poms as we can.

0:11:310:11:37

This is a bit fiddly and messy but lots of fun!

0:11:370:11:42

One in there and one in there.

0:11:420:11:45

Your fingers get really sticky!

0:11:450:11:48

Another in there... and one there.

0:11:480:11:51

One last in there and we've made

0:11:510:11:54

-a pom-pom pine cone!

-ALL: Yay!

0:11:540:11:58

When you've finished your pom-pom pine cone, it might be sticky,

0:11:580:12:02

but don't worry because when the glue's dried,

0:12:020:12:06

it'll look a little bit like this...

0:12:060:12:09

And if you've got more than a minute,

0:12:090:12:12

you can try all sorts of ideas.

0:12:120:12:15

How about this orange one? With orange pom-poms.

0:12:150:12:19

Or you could make glittery pine cones

0:12:190:12:23

using glitter and glittery pom-poms.

0:12:230:12:27

Or you could squirt on some extra paint for a colourful effect.

0:12:270:12:31

Pom-pom pine cones made in just a minute.

0:12:310:12:35

Why don't you try it? Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:12:350:12:38

Let's go back to the start and take a look.

0:12:380:12:41

Tie a piece of wool to the end of a pine cone,

0:12:410:12:44

squirt on some gloopy glue, stick pom-poms into all of the gaps

0:12:440:12:51

and your pom-pom pine cone is finished!

0:12:510:12:54

Why don't you try and make it in a minute?

0:12:560:12:59

It's time for me to go, but thank you for being part

0:12:590:13:02

-of another marvellous minute-make! Goodbye!

-ALL: Bye!

0:13:020:13:06

Oh, this is fun! Where shall we go to next?

0:13:090:13:14

ALL: Hello, Mr Maker!

0:13:140:13:17

Oh, hello!

0:13:170:13:19

-Look what we're making today.

-Let's take a look.

0:13:190:13:23

I am grey.

0:13:250:13:27

I am red.

0:13:300:13:33

I'm yellow.

0:13:330:13:36

I'm dark blue.

0:13:360:13:38

I am orange.

0:13:410:13:42

I'm light blue.

0:13:460:13:48

I am black.

0:13:500:13:52

I am purple.

0:13:540:13:56

ALL: It's a camper van!

0:14:050:14:07

Well done, everyone! See you soon.

0:14:070:14:11

Guess what? It's time for...

0:14:130:14:17

a big surprise.

0:14:170:14:20

These Mini Makers are not expecting me.

0:14:200:14:23

Hello!

0:14:230:14:25

Mini Makers, I need your help.

0:14:250:14:29

Hello! It's Farmer Maker here

0:14:290:14:32

and all of my crops keep getting eaten by some very naughty crows.

0:14:320:14:38

CROW CAWS

0:14:380:14:41

So we need to build something to scare all of the crows away.

0:14:410:14:46

Now, what could that be?

0:14:460:14:48

ALL: Scarecrow!

0:14:480:14:50

Of course! We should build a big scarecrow!

0:14:500:14:53

OK, then, Mia, Page, Salim, Isaac and Tyra, let's make it!

0:14:540:15:01

What does a scarecrow wear?

0:15:010:15:03

-An old jacket.

-An old jacket? What, like mine?

0:15:030:15:07

-No.

-No, this is very nice, this jacket, isn't it?

0:15:070:15:11

Now, can you see anything on the table that we can make

0:15:110:15:14

our scarecrow's head from?

0:15:140:15:17

That's a good idea! Salim, if you put that there. That's great!

0:15:170:15:22

-Do you think that will make a good scarecrow head?

-Yes.

0:15:220:15:26

What colour for our fields?

0:15:260:15:28

-Blue.

-We've got yellow, red and green.

-Good idea.

0:15:280:15:32

-Well, I think we're ready. Are we ready?

-ALL: Yes!

0:15:320:15:35

Fantastic, let's make it!

0:15:350:15:37

-Let's do some painting. What are we going to paint?

-Hills!

0:15:370:15:42

-The hills. And you're painting the...

-Tractor!

0:15:420:15:45

We're making a ball.

0:15:480:15:51

I'm making a scarecrow's eye.

0:15:530:15:56

And here's the sky.

0:15:570:15:59

This big surprise has been great fun so far

0:16:020:16:05

so why don't you join in and make your very own mini make?

0:16:050:16:10

Keep the birds away from your art with a scarecrow

0:16:100:16:13

that's fun to make.

0:16:130:16:15

You will need some paint, some glue, brown paper

0:16:150:16:20

and a small cardboard box, modelling clay, a clean yoghurt pot

0:16:200:16:25

and string, some twigs, a ball and stickers, scissors,

0:16:250:16:31

a pen and a pencil.

0:16:310:16:33

First, carefully trim the flaps off one end of the cardboard box.

0:16:330:16:37

Then push a ball of modelling clay into the end of it.

0:16:390:16:43

Make a hole in the box by carefully pushing a pencil through

0:16:430:16:47

the side into the modelling clay.

0:16:470:16:50

Do this on both sides.

0:16:500:16:53

Next, push a twig through both holes into modelling clay inside.

0:16:530:16:59

Then push another twig into the bottom of the box like this.

0:17:010:17:06

and tie it together with string.

Carefully trim around the edges to make the scarecrow's head.

Now add a squirt of gloopy glue to some paint.

0:17:250:17:29

Mix it together and use it to paint a clean yoghurt pot.

0:17:290:17:34

When it's dry, glue it onto the scarecrow's head.

0:17:340:17:39

Add stickers for eyes and draw a mouth.

0:17:390:17:43

Glue the head onto the body and then add more stickers for buttons.

Stand it up in another piece of modelling clay

0:18:330:18:36

He's not scary at all.

My making time's over but yours is just beginning.

0:18:470:18:51

It's time to put the Makermobile back in its box.
