HONK-HONK!

0:00:460:00:47

Hello! We're going for a drive in the Makermobile today.

0:00:470:00:52

-I wonder what we'll see.

-Squawk!

0:00:520:00:54

Tocky here! Mini Maker message.

0:00:540:00:58

Hello, I'm Ben.

0:00:580:01:00

Hello, Ben. Can I help you today?

0:01:000:01:02

Yes, please, Mister Maker.

0:01:020:01:04

OK, I'll be right with you.

0:01:040:01:06

Here I am!

0:01:220:01:24

Hello there, Ben! Lovely to meet you. Now, how can I help you today?

0:01:280:01:33

Can we make a colourful pattern?

0:01:330:01:36

A colourful pattern, eh? That's a great idea! Oh, I know!

0:01:360:01:41

We could make a pattern using...

0:01:410:01:44

Ho-ho! Colourful splats! D'you like that idea?

0:01:440:01:50

-No.

-No. Don't worry, I'll think of something else.

0:01:500:01:53

I know! I know!

0:01:530:01:57

Hoo-hoo! Colourful spots!

0:01:570:01:59

-What about that idea? D'you like that one?

-No.

-No!

0:01:590:02:03

How about we use a criss-cross pattern to make...

0:02:030:02:09

Ho-ho! ..our own colourful tartan?

0:02:090:02:13

-Now would you like that?

-Yeah.

0:02:130:02:16

Brilliant!

0:02:160:02:17

I'm pleased you like that, cos I've just had a great idea!

0:02:170:02:21

-Let's try something.

-PING!

0:02:210:02:24

Try making your own brightly coloured tartan tissue picture.

0:02:240:02:29

It looks terrific!

0:02:290:02:30

BOTH: Let's make it!

0:02:310:02:33

But first, we'll need somewhere to make it!

0:02:330:02:36

SWOOSH!

0:02:360:02:39

Ho-ho! And we'll need some other things from the Doodle Drawers!

0:02:390:02:45

-I'll be back soon.

-WHOOSH!

0:02:450:02:47

A ruler and a sheet of card.

0:02:490:02:52

Some water.

0:02:550:02:58

Where's my brush?

0:02:580:03:00

I know it's here somewhere! Where is it?

0:03:000:03:03

-Maybe I should ask Scraps!

-HONK!

0:03:030:03:07

-Hello!

-Hello, Scraps! Have you got a paintbrush we can borrow, please?

0:03:070:03:12

-Mmm-mmm!

-CRASH!

0:03:120:03:14

-Mmm!

-Oh, Scraps, that's lovely.

0:03:140:03:17

But this brush is a little bit too small.

0:03:170:03:20

Have you got a bigger one?

0:03:200:03:21

-Here you go. Go and have a look.

-CRASH!

0:03:210:03:25

-Mmmm!

-He-e-ey! Well done, Scraps! This is the perfect brush.

0:03:250:03:30

-Come 'ere, you!

-Ha-ha-ha!

0:03:300:03:32

-Ha-ha! Thanks, Scraps!

-Ha-ha-ha!

0:03:320:03:35

And we also need lots of lovely, colourful tissue paper!

0:03:380:03:43

All right, Ben,

0:03:430:03:45

let's make a tartan tissue picture, like this one...

0:03:450:03:49

here.

0:03:490:03:50

Tartan is a very special pattern,

0:03:500:03:53

with lots of colourful stripes criss-crossing each other.

0:03:530:03:58

-All right then, Ben. Are you ready?

-Yeah!

-Great!

0:03:580:04:01

Are YOU ready?

0:04:010:04:03

Brilliant! Let's get making!

0:04:030:04:05

Now first,

0:04:050:04:06

we're going to get some sheets of coloured tissue paper.

0:04:060:04:10

This usually comes folded up. But YOU can fold it yourself.

0:04:120:04:16

Now, let's take a ruler...

0:04:190:04:21

Excuse me, Ben ..and we're going to use

0:04:210:04:25

the ruler to tear strips

0:04:250:04:26

of the tissue paper like this.

0:04:260:04:29

There we go.

0:04:310:04:33

This gives us a tissue paper strip.

0:04:330:04:39

Look at that! I need to make lots of strips, Ben. Will you help?

0:04:390:04:44

-Yeah!

-Great! OK, take a ruler,

0:04:440:04:46

and let's get some tissue paper for you.

0:04:460:04:49

Let's tear some strips.

0:04:500:04:52

Yes! Well done!

0:04:530:04:55

You keep going with that, and I'll keep going with the purple.

0:04:550:04:59

We'll need lots of strips for our pattern.

0:04:590:05:02

TICK TOCK!

0:05:020:05:03

And you can use any colours.

0:05:030:05:05

Well done, Ben!

0:05:050:05:06

Lots of lovely paper strips here.

0:05:060:05:09

Let's move them all over to you.

0:05:090:05:10

Can you take these?

0:05:100:05:12

You look after those,

0:05:120:05:13

because we need to bring in a sheet of light-coloured card...

0:05:130:05:17

like this.

0:05:170:05:19

And we're going to brush water all over it.

0:05:190:05:23

This can get messy, so put down some old paper or newspaper first.

0:05:230:05:28

Excellent! Now we can start

0:05:280:05:30

to lay down our tissue paper strips.

0:05:300:05:32

Let's start with purple.

0:05:320:05:34

We're going to lay our strips down ACROSS the card,

0:05:340:05:38

and then we can brush some extra water on top...

0:05:380:05:42

to make sure it's really stuck down.

0:05:420:05:45

Great! Now let's stick down the rest of our strips.

0:05:480:05:52

Green.

0:05:520:05:54

Pink.

0:05:540:05:56

Orange.

0:05:560:05:57

And yellow.

0:05:570:05:59

Now repeat your colours in the same way, to the bottom of the page.

0:05:590:06:04

We've got all of our strips

0:06:040:06:06

that are lying ACROSS the card.

0:06:060:06:08

And now we're going to lay down

0:06:080:06:10

strips from the TOP to the BOTTOM.

0:06:100:06:13

So let's start with purple,

0:06:130:06:15

and lay the strips down in the same order.

0:06:150:06:18

And make sure your tissue paper stays nice and wet.

0:06:180:06:21

Now we leave it to dry overnight.

0:06:230:06:25

Unless, of course,

0:06:250:06:28

you can use some Mister Maker magic to speed things up!

0:06:280:06:31

Ben, get ready to click those fingers.

0:06:310:06:34

One, two, three! CLICK!

0:06:340:06:36

Oh, look at that!

0:06:390:06:41

It's all dry, and it's time for even more magic now, because

0:06:410:06:45

when the tissue strips are dry, we can carefully peel them away...

0:06:450:06:50

..to see that our criss-cross pattern has been left behind!

0:06:530:06:59

The colour has leaked from the tissue paper strips onto our card.

0:06:590:07:03

And our tartan tissue picture is finished!

0:07:030:07:07

You can use the same idea to make all sorts of different pictures!

0:07:070:07:11

You could try using other colours, like red and orange.

0:07:110:07:16

Why not try laying the tissue paper in a different direction,

0:07:160:07:20

like this blue and green pattern?

0:07:200:07:22

Or you could even cut out tissue paper circles,

0:07:220:07:26

and make a colourful spotty pattern.

0:07:260:07:29

Tartan tissue pictures! Why don't YOU try one today?

0:07:300:07:34

-What d'you think of our picture then, Ben?

-Good!

0:07:340:07:37

Well, I think you've been great! We made it!

0:07:370:07:40

And now your home is where the art is! High five!

0:07:400:07:44

Brilliant! Well done, Ben.

0:07:440:07:46

That's a really colourful pattern, Ben. Bye!

0:07:460:07:51

MISTER MAKER SIGHS

0:07:510:07:53

Heh-heh-heh! Lovely! Hee-hee!

0:07:530:07:56

It's brilliant being out and about!

0:07:560:07:59

There's always so much to see and do.

0:07:590:08:02

LAUGHTER

0:08:020:08:04

What's that noise?

0:08:040:08:06

WHOOSH! BOING!

0:08:060:08:08

Guess who that is?

0:08:080:08:10

BOING!

0:08:100:08:11

-Wa-a-ay!

-Wahey!

-Yeah!

0:08:110:08:15

# I am a shape

0:08:170:08:18

# I am a shape

0:08:220:08:23

# I am a shape

0:09:050:09:07

# I am a square! #

0:09:140:09:16

How many squares can you see?

0:09:180:09:21

One,

0:09:210:09:23

two,

0:09:230:09:25

three,

0:09:250:09:27

four,

0:09:270:09:28

five,

0:09:280:09:30

six!

0:09:300:09:31

There are six squares.

0:09:310:09:34

Well done, Shapes! It's time to get back in the Doodle Drawers!

0:09:340:09:40

-Woo-ha-ha!

-Woo!

-Woo!

0:09:400:09:42

Hee-hee-hee!

0:09:420:09:44

HONK HONK!

0:09:440:09:46

Oh, I love driving the Makermobile.

0:09:460:09:49

-There are so many interesting things to see!

-Squawk!

0:09:490:09:52

Minute-make time!

0:09:520:09:54

Hey! It's minute-make time! I'm on my way!

0:09:540:09:58

CRANKING

0:09:580:09:59

We've arrived!

0:10:110:10:12

-It's minute-make time, everyone!

-ALL: Yea-a-a-ah!

0:10:180:10:22

And today, we're going to make something using SOCKS!

0:10:220:10:25

I love socks! I love...bright socks!

0:10:250:10:30

Spotty socks. Very colourful.

0:10:300:10:34

And I also love...long, stripy socks. Ho-ho!

0:10:340:10:39

Socks are great fun to wear, but they're also great fun

0:10:390:10:42

to make things with, like this stripy sock-bug!

0:10:420:10:46

Hi, Stripy!

0:10:460:10:48

And you can make one in just one minute, by using...

0:10:480:10:52

a pencil, a pipe cleaner, a long sock... You can use

0:10:520:10:56

whatever sock you like, but it's great if it's stripy.

0:10:560:11:00

..some uncooked rice, a glue stick

0:11:000:11:04

and we'll also need some googly eyes.

0:11:040:11:06

You can find those in an art and craft shop.

0:11:060:11:08

I'll be back very soon!

0:11:080:11:11

I've got them! Ha-ha! Here...

0:11:160:11:20

are our googly eyes.

0:11:200:11:22

Now, do you think it's possible to make THIS

0:11:220:11:26

stripy sock-bug in just one minute?

0:11:260:11:29

ALL: No way!

0:11:290:11:30

Well, let's find out!

0:11:300:11:32

I'll have to be very quick, but don't worry,

0:11:320:11:35

I'll show you how to do it at the end! Are you ready?

0:11:350:11:38

ALL: Ye-e-es!

0:11:380:11:40

Ha-ha! Are YOU ready?

0:11:400:11:42

Brilliant! Let's make it in a minute!

0:11:420:11:44

ALL: Three, two, one...GO!

0:11:440:11:49

Right, first, we're going to get our rice,

0:11:490:11:51

and we're going to pour it very carefully into the sock.

0:11:510:11:55

So it's about half full, like that.

0:11:550:11:58

Then we're going to tie a knot in the end, like that.

0:11:580:12:01

Nice and tight, so the rice doesn't fall out. There we go.

0:12:010:12:06

Now we need to get our pipe cleaner,

0:12:060:12:09

and very carefully push it through the sock,

0:12:090:12:12

like this.

0:12:120:12:14

Is it going to go through? Hang on, there it is!

0:12:140:12:17

Pull it so it sticks out of both ends. And then grab a pencil.

0:12:170:12:21

We're going to wind the pipe cleaner around the pencil

0:12:210:12:26

that side, and then also wind it around that side.

0:12:260:12:30

And if we pull out the pencil and bend these up,

0:12:300:12:33

we've got some funny antennae!

0:12:330:12:35

We need eyes now! Let's get some glue,

0:12:350:12:38

a googly eye on one side.

0:12:380:12:40

And another one.

0:12:400:12:42

There's another one!

0:12:420:12:44

And we've made a stripy sock-bug!

0:12:440:12:46

BELL RINGS

0:12:460:12:48

HOORAY!

0:12:480:12:50

Phew! Just in time! But if you've got MORE than a minute,

0:12:500:12:54

why don't you try lots of other ideas?

0:12:540:12:56

You can make a spotty one, with a spotty sock and pompoms.

0:12:560:13:01

If you've only got a plain sock, you could stick on these stars.

0:13:010:13:06

And with a really long sock,

0:13:060:13:08

you could make a really long bug!

0:13:080:13:11

Stripy sock-bugs, made in a minute! Why don't you try it?

0:13:110:13:15

Here's a reminder of how to do it!

0:13:150:13:18

Let's take another look.

0:13:180:13:21

Half-fill a sock with rice.

0:13:210:13:23

Tie a knot at the end,

0:13:230:13:25

push a pipe cleaner through the sock like this!

0:13:250:13:28

And wrap it around a pencil.

0:13:280:13:30

Stick on googly eyes!

0:13:300:13:33

And your stripy sock-bug is finished!

0:13:330:13:36

Why don't YOU try making it in a minute?

0:13:380:13:41

It's time to go, everybody. Thanks for being part of

0:13:410:13:45

another minute-make! Goodbye!

0:13:450:13:47

ALL: Goodbye!

0:13:470:13:48

-Bye, Stripy!

-Bye-bye, Mister Maker.

0:13:480:13:52

HONK HONK!

0:13:540:13:55

I love driving the Makermobile! Where shall we go to next?

0:13:560:14:00

ALL: Hello, Mister Maker!

0:14:000:14:03

Oh, hello! Nice to see you!

0:14:030:14:05

What d'you think we're making today?

0:14:050:14:08

Ooh, I'm not sure! Let's take a look.

0:14:080:14:10

I am green.

0:14:140:14:15

I'm yellow.

0:14:200:14:21

I'm dark blue.

0:14:230:14:24

I am red.

0:14:280:14:30

ALL: It's a present! TOOT!

0:14:390:14:42

Well done, everyone! See you soon!

0:14:420:14:45

HONK HONK!

0:14:450:14:47

Hello. Are you ready...for a BIG SURPRISE?!

0:14:470:14:51

These Mini Makers aren't expecting me.

0:14:530:14:56

Shall we give them a big surprise? Come on, then!

0:14:560:15:00

Hello!

0:15:000:15:02

Now, do YOU like robots?

0:15:030:15:07

-ALL: Yes.

-Me, too.

0:15:070:15:08

I love everything about robots, especially robot dancing!

0:15:080:15:13

WHIRR! WHIZZ!

0:15:130:15:16

Ha-ha! Well done! Very good robot dancing.

0:15:210:15:25

I think we should make a whole FAMILY of robots!

0:15:250:15:29

Come on then, Tad, Luke, Kai, Erin and Jade...let's make it!

0:15:290:15:35

Now, Mini Makers, we're going to make some big robots!

0:15:350:15:38

-What do robots look like?

-Metal men.

0:15:380:15:41

That's right! Like metal men! How many robots shall we make?

0:15:410:15:45

-What do you think, Jade?

-Eh, three!

0:15:450:15:48

I think three's a good number.

0:15:480:15:50

We could use cardboard boxes to make our robots.

0:15:500:15:53

Now, can you see anything on the table

0:15:530:15:56

that we could stick onto our boxes?

0:15:560:15:58

We could use the lids for buttons.

0:15:580:16:01

Wow! The buttons on the chest of the robot!

0:16:010:16:04

What could we make arms from?

0:16:040:16:06

-We can get that and then stick that onto there.

-Oh, yes! Look!

0:16:060:16:13

This could be a robot's arm.

0:16:130:16:14

All right, then, Mini Makers! Are we ready?

0:16:140:16:18

-ALL: Yeah!

-Come on, then. Let's make it!

0:16:180:16:20

Let's start by covering the big boxes.

0:16:220:16:26

And we will need lots of different pieces for our robots.

0:16:260:16:30

-Hello, Mini Makers! What are we doing, Kai?

-We're making wires.

That's it! In you come, Mini Makers!

0:16:520:16:55

This big surprise has been GREAT fun so far,

0:16:550:16:58

so why don't YOU join in and make your very own mini-make?

0:16:580:17:03

Make your own fantastic mini robot, to play with and have fun with.

0:17:030:17:09

You will need...paint, boxes, bottle tops,

0:17:090:17:15

stickers and shiny paper, glue, scissors and a brush.

0:17:150:17:20

First, take a rectangle-shaped box and glue a smaller one on top.

0:17:210:17:27

Stick thin boxes on each side for arms.

0:17:270:17:31

Now, take four small boxes and stick them together to make legs,

0:17:320:17:37

like this!

0:17:370:17:38

And glue them to the body.

0:17:380:17:41

Next, paint the robot...

0:17:410:17:44

and leave it to dry.

0:17:440:17:46

You can decorate it with paper and stickers,

0:17:460:17:49

and add bottle tops for eyes.

0:17:490:17:52

Your cardboard box robot is finished, and ready to play with!

0:17:520:17:57

WHIRR! BLEEP!

0:17:570:18:01

0:18:030:18:05
