All right, Mini Makers, let's think some nice purple thoughts

and come up with some ideas for an arty party picture.

What shall we use today?

-Glitter.

-Great idea. Glitter.

-Purple paint.

-Purple paint! Of course.

Now, what shall we make our picture on?

Purple card.

Lots of lovely purple arty bits and bobs.

What shall we make our picture of?

Space!

Space! That's just given me an amazing idea.

Let's get arty at our party.

For an out-of-this-world picture,

let's make a glittery purple galaxy with splattered paint and spaceships.

But first, we'll need some things from...

The Doodle Tube!

That's right.

UPBEAT MUSIC PLAYS

We'll need some purple card, some silver card and some paintbrushes.

A string of sausages.

RECORD SCRATCHES A string of sausages? Doodle Tube!

They look tasty, but we don't need these.

Some paint, some stickers and a pen.

And we'll need some glitter, a glue stick and some scissors.

OK, then, Mini Makers, let's get started.

This can get a bit messy.

It's a good idea to put on some old clothes.

All right, everyone, you'll need some purple card.

But make sure you put down some old paper first.

Next, use white paint to make swirls, like this.

There we are. Lovely.

And now you can even add some other colours.

Let's use some nice lilac paint here.

Then put a big splodge of white paint in the middle.

There we go.

Next, use more white paint

to add drips and drops all over the paper or card.

Raining white paint.

It IS raining white paint. You're right, Ryan.

What do these drips look like?

Stars.

That's it, they're like stars in outer space.

Now we're going to add a sprinkle of sparkly glitter to our picture.

There we are, my friends. We have a picture of a swirly outer space.

And now we need to draw some UFOs or spaceships to fly in outer space.

And we're going to do that on this nice silver card here.

Let's start off with our spaceships.

For that, we just need two leaf shapes.

And then two half-circle shapes as well.

We need to cut these out. We must be careful, because scissors are...

-Sharp.

-That's right.

When you've cut them out, stick them together, like this.

Fantastic. We've got two spaceships.

Let's add some extra detail with some coloured stickers.

I've got Maneesha to help me. Can we have an orange sticker?

Very good. A yellow one next.

That looks brilliant.

Then stick it on and do the same with the other spaceship.

Has anyone ever had any arty ideas that are out of this world

about purple?

Let's find out.

Thousands of years ago, in Ancient Egypt,

there was a man called Charmion.

He was a servant to a lady called Cleopatra.

Cleopatra was a pharaoh of Egypt,

the most important and powerful person in the kingdom.

Cleopatra loved the colour purple.

-CLEOPATRA:

-I need a new dress and I want it purple.

But purple dye hadn't yet been invented.

Then Charmion had a brilliant idea.

That's it! Snails.

The Ancient Egyptians discovered that a special type of sea snail

could produce a purple dye.

Thousands of them are thought to have been cooked, then crushed,

to create the purple dye for Cleopatra's royal robes.

They then had to be left in the pot for days and days.

This was all very expensive and difficult to do.

Ahhhh! Look!

That was hard work, but it will be perfect for Cleopatra's dress.

-I would like a purple cloak, too.

-CHARMION GROANS

OK, boss. But it's going to be expensive.

HE GROANS

Whoa! Yuck.

I don't think we'd want to wear something made out of crushed snails.

Luckily, these days, we don't have to.

We've got perfect purple dyes for all our purple needs.

So, Mini Makers, we can leave those snails alone.

Now let's see how the Mini Makers are getting on.

Brian, tell us, how did you make your picture so sparkly?

I put all the glue on first

and then put the sprinkles on and shook it off.

It turned out to look fantastic.

Today, Scrappz is getting some help from one of the Mini Makers.

Hello, my name is Denzel.

I'm going to show you how to make a cool, crazy purple creature.

First, you need some clay. Then just roll it into a ball.

Then just flatten it into any shape you like it.

I'm going to do mine a circle shape.

Stick on the googly eyes.

I just need to flatten it down so they don't fall off.

Then add stickers for teeth.

They are really tricky, you know. But they'll look fantastic.

And that's how you make a cool, crazy purple creature.
