Hello and welcome to the glorious North East!

Yes, today, we're in Tyneside, which is rather appropriately named,

because I'm beside the River Tyne.

On this side of the river, I'm in Gateshead.

Whilst on this side, I'm in Newcastle.

And it's this location that gives the city its name,

because this is Newcastle Castle, and confusingly, it was only

new way back in 1080.

Now, it's just an old castle in Newcastle.

Tyneside is home to some of the most passionate fans in the land,

birthplace of some of England's best players and also home to one

of the most famous junior football clubs in the world.

Welcome to Wallsend Boys Club and welcome to our

Kickabout Tyneside special!

Yes, we've got a cracking show in store, so come on everyone,

you know the drill.

Yes, there's plenty to look forward to in today's show,

including superstar interviews, skills and drills and of course,

loads and loads of goals.

And there have been plenty of goals scored today,

because it's a junior seven aside tournament with players

from all over the region.

And they've been joined by a rather special guest.

It's the man who puts the style into freestyle,

it's none other than John Farnworth.

So what are you going to be doing today?

As you know, there have been some great players from this area,

so I wanted to bring a challenge, using our heads.

OK, interesting.

Right, that's enough.

Watch the quiff!

Absolutely, so what is this challenge?

So, what we're going to do is get the players in line,

heading the ball between themselves and we're going to see how far

we can get from one end to the next.

So like a head tennis rally.

That's exactly what it is.

I can't wait to see that.

And we have come to the right place.

It's full of talent here at Wallsend Boys Club.

But it's not just for boys, is it?

No!

Wallsend Boys Club was started over 100 years ago by families who worked

building ships nearby.

The shipyards closed in 1995, but the club is still going strong.

We now have over 20 teams for boys and girls,

from under-fours to over-40s.

Over the years, we have produced over 70 professional footballers.

Here are just a few.

And we might be the next!

Wow!

Over 70 pro players, all just from this one club?

Amazing!

And five of those are England internationals, and one even has

the Champions League winners medal.

But we at CBBC spotted his potential a long time ago.

Check this out.

Michael Carrick is a 13-year-old boy who has already been tipped

as one of this country's future footballing stars.

This is his story.

My name is Michael Carrick.

I'm 13.

I play for Wallsend Boys Club.

These are the trophies I've won over the years.

That one is for winning player of the year for the town under-12s.

My ambition would be to score a goal for England

in the World Cup final, but I would first like

to play for England.

Of course, he was a Newcastle fan as a boy, but he never

went on to play for them in his professional career.

One young lad who started here at Wallsend, though,

who did become a Newcastle folk hero is also the top scorer ever

in the Premier League.

He's a man who needs no introduction, but we're

going to give him one.

How are you?

Good, how are you?

Good.

So, what is your first memory of Newcastle United?

My first game was the Kevin Keegan debut at QPR, I think it was.

I stood and queued at the Gallowgate end for four or five

hours before kick-off.

But it was all worth it, because the man himself scored.

And there it is!

And of course, it's Kevin Keegan.

Who else?

What's the best goal you've ever scored?

Probably my volley against Everton at St James' Park.

Shearer.

I don't know why I hit it, to be honest, because it was coming

from a silly height and I thought, why not just take a pop at it.

More often than not, when you try one of those,

they go to the back row of the stand, never mind

the back of the net.

So when I hit it, I knew I got it sweet.

It was a great feeling, watching the goalkeeper

trying to dive for it.

That was probably my best.

Is there a better feeling in the world than scoring

a goal at the Gallowgate?

No, there is not a better feeling in the world than scoring a goal.

I promise you.

So how important was Wallsend Boys Club to your

development as a player?

It was hugely important to me.

I went down for a bit of training and they invited me in there.

And it was brilliant for my development, part

of training, part of growing up.

I just loved it.

It was great for me as a player and also great for me as a person.

Now, what was your dream when you started to play at Wallsend?

My dream was to be a professional footballer, play for England.

Shearer.

Play for Newcastle.

It's a fantastic goal.

What a way to get his 100th in the premiership for Newcastle.

I never dreamed one day that I would actually captain England,

which was the best thing that ever happened to me as a footballer.

I don't think it gets any bigger or better than to walk out

at Wembley in front of everyone with the armband on,

in front of 90,000 people.

Look at the precision of that shot.

Who is the greatest player you've ever played with or played against?

The greatest player I've played against was Zinedine Zidane.

You look at some players and how they caressed the ball

with their foot and control the ball, he controlled games.

He was an absolute genius.

He could do almost anything.

How would you describe Newcastle fans and the atmosphere

in Saint James' Park?

Passionate.

Loyal.

Loud.

Very, very supportive.

Die-hard.

I was exactly the same as what you boys are.

I grew up watching them.

It was my club and it was always my dream to play their one-day

For me to do that after standing on the terraces as a fan

and as a young boy, it was just incredible.

I think they appreciate that I'm one of their own, if you like.

If an alien landed in Newcastle, and wanted to see the city,

where would you take them?

Saint James' Park.

That's the only place, isn't it?

Shearer.

And still Shearer and he took it away.

So, fresh from interviewing Newcastle's Alan Shearer,

we've only got Kickabout's James!

Now, James, what was the big man like?

It was really good.

He was really friendly.

Fantastic.

So what was the best thing for you that you talked about?

Probably about what it was like at Wallsend

when he was younger, growing up.

And does it inspire you, knowing that he started off at this club?

Definitely.

I really enjoyed meeting him.

Fantastic.

It's going really well.

There's talent here, there are some good heading going on.

It's quite a tight space, they're doing very well.

I've got a good feeling about this challenge.

Mr Alan Shearer himself also set as another one.

Right, Wallsend, try and recreate that magnificent volley I scored

against Aston Villa.

Wow, that is an incredible goal, isn't it?

Yes.

And a tough challenge.

So Charlie, fresh from interviewing Mr Shearer himself, you are here,

going to be helping us to recreate that goal.

You are going to be Alan Shearer, seeing as you already play

for Wallsend as a striker.

It's going to be tough, right?

Yeah, it is going to be one of those where you just

have to catch it well, so it just goes into the top corner.

Easy.

John, you're going to be Rob Lee, feeding the ball.

I am.

What are the skills going on?

I think there are two main things here.

The ball needs to be perfect, so I think the way he hit it,

you must use the power from the ball and then it's about getting

the direction of the food into the corner, so forget those two

so if we get those two

things right, we've got a chance of making this happen.

It's a big effort, but if we get it, we will have completed that

challenge, Mr Shearer.

I'm going to enjoy watching him commentating from the side.

We were formed in 1892 and we have played here ever since.

Making this one of the oldest football grounds in the world.

Our nickname is the Magpies, because we play in black and white.

We both have season tickets.

We sit over there and support the Toon.

At the moment, they're putting in a new pitch for next season.

Come on, you Magpies!

This is Jackie Milburn, a true Newcastle legend.

Between 1943 and 1957, Wor Jackie scored 200 goals and won

the FA Cup three times.

His goal-scoring record stood for 50 years, until this man beat him.

Another Magpie hero is Kevin Keegan.

King Kev.

He scored 40 goals in 78 games.

But he came back as manager in 1992 and took us from the bottom

of the second division to second in the Premier League.

And Newcastle United are back.

Now we're back in the Premier League where we belong,

who knows where we'll go?
