And this week has already

seen some massive deals.

0:00:330:00:35

Plus, there's EFL Cup

action to catch up on,

0:00:350:00:38

and a look ahead to some

mouthwatering ties in

0:00:380:00:40

the FA Cup this weekend.

0:00:400:00:42

All that, plus this lot coming up

too on today's show.

0:00:420:00:49

If you're thinking about joining

in with the FA People's Cup,

0:00:500:00:52

then Kickabout stars John Farnworth

and Alex Scott will be

0:00:520:00:56

sharing their top five tips

for playing 5-a-side footie.

0:00:560:01:00

The creator of one of CBBC's biggest

shows, Horrible Histories,

0:01:000:01:03

reveals some horrible footie facts

from the past.

0:01:030:01:08

And we reveal which Top Tekkers you

chose to see on this week's show.

0:01:080:01:13

Top tips, fascinating footie

facts and great goals.

0:01:130:01:15

What a line-up!

0:01:150:01:18

Let's kick things off,

though, as we always do,

0:01:180:01:20

by checking out this week's Headline

Hitters.

0:01:200:01:23

Big news for the England

women's team this week,

0:01:260:01:29

as it was announced that

Phil Neville has been

0:01:290:01:31

appointed new head coach.

0:01:310:01:32

The ex-England and Manchester United

player takes over from Mo Marley,

0:01:320:01:35

and his first big test will be this

She Believes Cup,

0:01:350:01:38

which starts in March.

0:01:380:01:39

Good luck, Phil!

0:01:390:01:46

Check this out for a hit!

0:01:470:01:49

Lugo goalkeeper Juan Carlos Martin

Corra scored a sensational goal

0:01:490:01:52

from his own half this week,

as his side beat Sporting Gijon 3-1

0:01:520:01:54

in the Spanish league.

0:01:540:02:01

And finally, Manchester City

and Arsenal booked places at Wembley

0:02:020:02:05

for the EFL Cup final this week.

0:02:050:02:09

Pep's men beat battling

Bristol City 5-3 on aggregate,

0:02:090:02:11

with goals from Sane,

Aguero and De Bruyne on Tuesday

0:02:110:02:15

night at Ashton Gate.

0:02:150:02:17

Whilst the Gunners came

from behind to beat Chelsea.

0:02:170:02:19

After a goalless first leg,

Hazard put the Blues ahead,

0:02:190:02:22

while an own goal levelled it,

before Granit Xhaka sealed the win.

0:02:220:02:28

Congratulations to

Man City and Arsenal.

0:02:280:02:30

The final takes place on Sunday

the 25th of February.

0:02:300:02:33

And what a cracking

game it should be.

0:02:330:02:35

Another big footie

competition coming up soon

0:02:350:02:37

is the FA People's Cup.

0:02:370:02:38

Last year, more than 6000 teams

and over 40,000 players took part

0:02:380:02:43

in Round One across the country.

0:02:430:02:44

And it's time to get involved

again now if you want

0:02:440:02:47

to enter a team this year.

0:02:470:02:49

The ultimate prize is a chance

to lift the trophy in your category

0:02:490:02:52

at the FA Cup final in May.

0:02:520:02:54

But the best thing is,

you get to take part in a huge

0:02:540:02:58

tournament with your mates.

0:02:580:02:59

So, with that in mind,

here are the top tips

0:02:590:03:01

with Kickabout's on John Farnworth

and Alex Scott to prepare

0:03:010:03:03

you for the nation's biggest

5-a-side competition.

0:03:030:03:10

I love 5-a-side!

0:03:150:03:16

I think it's a great way

of improving your technique

0:03:160:03:18

to become a top footballer.

0:03:180:03:20

And, the FA People's Cup

is all about the 5-a-side game.

0:03:200:03:24

It's fun, it's free, it's 5-a-side.

0:03:240:03:27

And they're looking

for teams of boys and girls.

0:03:270:03:29

So if you are under 14, this

is the perfect tournament for you.

0:03:290:03:33

So, we thought we would give

you our top five to help you master

0:03:330:03:36

becoming a good 5-a-side player.

0:03:360:03:39

Master the short passing game.

0:03:420:03:44

A 5-a-side court is a small,

tight area, so short passing is key.

0:03:440:03:47

In 5-a-side, most passes

are played short.

0:03:470:03:50

Very rarely you will see those

long, sweeping passes.

0:03:500:03:53

Because remember the no

overhead height rule.

0:03:530:03:56

Your passing has

to be super-accurate.

0:03:560:03:58

You can't always use tricks

and flicks, and punting the ball up

0:03:580:04:01

in the air just ain't going to work.

0:04:010:04:03

Short passing might sound simple.

0:04:030:04:04

But, because of the lack of space,

those passes need to be right.

0:04:040:04:11

Like your passing, good

shooting sounds obvious.

0:04:110:04:13

But in 5-a-side, it is

a little different.

0:04:130:04:16

Because the goals are low and wide,

so you need to aim for the corners.

0:04:160:04:19

Aim low and the goals will flow.

0:04:190:04:22

And remember, the pitch is so small,

you will get so many

0:04:220:04:24

opportunities to shoot,

so don't overplay it.

0:04:240:04:27

Once you get your opportunity,

head up and smash it in the corner.

0:04:270:04:34

In 5-a-side, the goalie

will probably face twice as many

0:04:340:04:37

shots than in a normal game,

which means the difference

0:04:370:04:39

between winning and losing.

0:04:390:04:42

But, what's really important

is that goalie roll-out.

0:04:420:04:45

Because too many times goals

are scored when goalkeepers roll

0:04:450:04:48

them out to people in bad positions.

0:04:480:04:51

So, if it's not on, just be patient.

0:04:510:04:53

And remember, the way

you roll it out is underarm

0:04:530:04:55

to the feet of your team-mate.

0:04:550:04:57

If you just chuck it

to your mates and it's

0:04:570:04:59

bouncing all over the place,

that is going to cause

0:04:590:05:02

loads of problems.

0:05:020:05:05

Defending - don't dive in.

0:05:050:05:06

And when your opponents

have the ball, force them wide.

0:05:060:05:09

Block the shots, get

goal-side of your attacker

0:05:090:05:11

and stop them from shooting.

0:05:110:05:13

And defenders are key.

0:05:130:05:15

Don't be the one that goal hangs,

get back and get out.

0:05:150:05:21

Sole skills, this is essential

in 5-a-side because there

0:05:210:05:24

is no space on the pitch.

0:05:240:05:26

So remember, use the sole

of your foot to move the ball

0:05:260:05:29

and get yourself out

of any tight situations.

0:05:290:05:32

OK, we have showed you our top

skills for 5-a-side.

0:05:350:05:38

So it's time for you to get out

there and put them into action.

0:05:380:05:42

Let's go!

0:05:420:05:43

Left foot!

0:05:430:05:45

Thanks, team.

0:05:500:05:52

And the FA People's Cup

sign-up is open now.

0:05:520:05:55

Head to the Kickabout website

for all the details.

0:05:550:05:57

This year, there's 18 categories -

including an under-14 male

0:05:570:06:00

and under-14 female category.

0:06:000:06:02

You do have to be 12

or over to take part.

0:06:020:06:05

But don't worry if you're

too young right now.

0:06:050:06:07

You can still practice all those top

tips to get training for the future.

0:06:070:06:10

And there's certainly no doubt

you've got the skills to rival Alex

0:06:100:06:13

and John if the videos you send

in week are anything to go by.

0:06:130:06:17

Check this lot out.

0:06:170:06:20

Massive Newcastle fan

Gavin here showing how

0:06:260:06:33

to master the kick-ups.

0:06:330:06:34

Sign him up, Rafa!

0:06:340:06:40

He is Liam scoring a fantastic free

kick to lead his team to a 3-2 win

0:06:400:06:44

against Ashington recently.

0:06:440:06:52

And finally, here's Finlay scoring

for his team, the under-7s,

0:06:540:06:59

the only goal of the match,

and it won them the tournament.

0:06:590:07:02

Look at that!

0:07:020:07:03

Brilliant stuff!

0:07:030:07:11

And check out the cup they won that

day thanks to Finlay's goal.

0:07:130:07:16

Well done again, guys.

0:07:160:07:17

Looking ahead to this weekend now,

it's the return of the FA Cup,

0:07:170:07:20

and Premier League leaders Man City

travel to Cardiff.

0:07:200:07:22

Well, they'll be hoping

to continue their pursuit

0:07:220:07:24

of all four trophies in one season.

0:07:240:07:28

Tottenham are at Newport County,

one of the lowest-ranked sides left

0:07:280:07:32

left in the competition,

after they caused an upset

0:07:320:07:35

in the last round by beating

Championship side Leeds.

0:07:350:07:37

Whilst Nottingham Forest,

who knocked out holders Arsenal,

0:07:370:07:39

are at the Championship rivals Hull.

0:07:390:07:40

The Tigers will be hoping to bounce

back after defeat to Sunderland

0:07:400:07:43

in the Championship last weekend.

0:07:430:07:44

The Black Cats won 1-0,

only their second win

0:07:440:07:46

at the Stadium Of Light this season,

would you believe it?!

0:07:460:07:49

But a move in the right direction,

our next Sunderland

0:07:490:07:51

superfan will be hoping.

0:07:510:07:52

I'm talking about Terry Deary,

author of the hugely successful

0:07:520:07:55

Horrible Histories series.

0:07:550:07:56

You'll know him better for his books

than the Black Cats,

0:07:560:07:59

but he's also a massive football

fan, as we found out recently

0:07:590:08:01

when we caught up with him to chat

footie facts from years gone by.

0:08:010:08:07

Hello, I'm Terry Deary.

0:08:070:08:10

And as well as being a lifelong

supporter of the wonderful

0:08:100:08:14

Sunderland Football Club,

some of you might know me better

0:08:140:08:22

as the author of the book

series Horrible Histories.

0:08:230:08:26

I was born in Sunderland

0:08:260:08:28

And me dad took me to me first match

when I was nine years old.

0:08:280:08:33

I remember one of the great players

of those days was a player

0:08:330:08:36

called Len Shackleton,

who used to do incredible

0:08:360:08:38

tricks with the ball.

0:08:380:08:39

And ever since then,

my favourite players have always

0:08:390:08:41

been the entertainers.

0:08:410:08:45

COMMENTATOR:

Here's one more,

has to go alone here, and scores!

0:08:450:08:48

And you won't see a more popular

goal-scorer anywhere

0:08:480:08:50

in the country today!

0:08:500:08:58

And down the years, I've seen

Sunderland go up and come down.

0:08:580:09:01

But it doesn't matter how

good or bad they are,

0:09:010:09:04

I'll always support them.

0:09:040:09:10

I've got a season ticket

for Sunderland Football Club,

0:09:100:09:13

and hardly a home game goes

by without me going downstairs

0:09:130:09:15

for a Bovril and somebody

will come up to me and say,

0:09:150:09:23

"when are you going to write

a Horrible History of this lot?!"

0:09:240:09:27

Because Horrible Histories

are 25 years old now,

0:09:270:09:29

and this wonderful new stadium

is only 20 years old.

0:09:290:09:32

So the Horrible Histories books

are older than the stadium.

0:09:320:09:34

I've been a season ticket-holder

here for all that time.

0:09:340:09:36

And, of course, in the recent years,

the big heroes are the goal-scorers.

0:09:360:09:40

People like Kevin Phillips,

who scored 30 goals in one season.

0:09:400:09:43

He was a hero.

0:09:430:09:44

We've never done that

well since he left.

0:09:440:09:46

COMMENTATOR:

Jermain Defoe!

0:09:460:09:47

Oh my goodness me, what a goal!

0:09:470:09:49

2018 sees the 25th anniversary

of the Horrible Histories books.

0:09:490:09:51

So how about we celebrate

by me giving you some

0:09:510:09:54

horrible football facts,

especially for you lot at much

0:09:540:10:02

horrible football facts,

especially for you lot at Match

0:10:020:10:04

of the Day Kickabout?

0:10:040:10:11

Football's always had

a very colourful past.

0:10:110:10:13

In 1531, a Puritan preacher called

Thomas Elliott said,

0:10:130:10:18

"football creates beastly fury

and extreme violence!"

0:10:180:10:20

Not a lot changes, then!

0:10:200:10:24

In 1589, a vicar was giving a sermon

in church when he heard a noise

0:10:240:10:28

outside, and he found

two men were playing

0:10:280:10:30

football in his churchyard!

0:10:300:10:33

They were fined two shillings

for this grave crime.

0:10:330:10:35

Grave crime, get it?!

0:10:350:10:37

Never mind...

0:10:370:10:44

In 1863, Ebenezer Cobb

Morley's rules of the game

0:10:470:10:52

said it was OK to hack

0:10:520:10:53

at the front of an opponent's leg.

0:10:530:10:57

In fact, barging, hacking and

tripping were all part of the game.

0:10:570:11:00

One of the supporters of hacking

even went as far as to say,

0:11:000:11:06

"if you ban hacking,

then you take out all the plot and

0:11:060:11:08

courage from the game.

0:11:080:11:11

And within a week, a team

of Frenchmen will come

0:11:110:11:16

across, and after a little

practice they will beat us!"

0:11:160:11:18

That's never going to happen!

0:11:180:11:20

Top staff!

0:11:200:11:21

And the superfans

don't stop with Terry!

0:11:210:11:22

You lot at home have been sending

in some fantastic footie photos,

0:11:220:11:25

showing your support

for your favourite teams, too.

0:11:250:11:27

As well as some amazing

achievements on the pitch.

0:11:270:11:30

He is Isaac outside Wembley,

about to enjoy his first

0:11:300:11:32

ever footie match.

0:11:320:11:39

Spurs were taking on Everton,

and Isaac loved seeing his idols

0:11:390:11:41

Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney.

0:11:410:11:42

Jack is a big Newcastle fan,

and recently enjoyed

0:11:420:11:45

a tour of St James's Park.

0:11:450:11:50

It was his first time

visiting a football ground,

0:11:500:11:52

and he loved seeing the changing

rooms and pitch.

0:11:520:11:54

Sophie plays for three

teams, including Jarrow

0:11:540:11:56

FC and Boldin Girls.

0:11:560:12:00

She trains three times a week,

with matches every weekend.

0:12:000:12:05

And the hard work is clearly paying

off, as Boldin Girls have

0:12:050:12:08

just won their league!

0:12:080:12:09

Well done, Sophie.

0:12:090:12:15

Aston Villa fan Samir

met their mascot at Villa Park

0:12:150:12:17

during the game against Sunderland.

0:12:170:12:21

Villa won 2-1, and Samir even got

to say hello to assistant

0:12:210:12:24

manager Colin Calderwood.

0:12:240:12:32

And finally, here's Jack in action

for Walsall under-8s.

0:12:320:12:39

And with his Outstanding Player

Trophy that he won last year.

0:12:390:12:42

He loves playing in the team

with his best friend, Liam.

0:12:420:12:45

Keep up the good work, you two.

0:12:450:12:47

Jack and Liam, I bet

you're a dynamic duo out

0:12:470:12:49

there on that pitch.

0:12:490:12:50

Nice one!

0:12:500:12:51

Keep sending in your fantastic

photos, and of course your

0:12:510:12:54

brilliant skills videos.

0:12:540:12:55

We love featuring you

on the show each week.

0:12:550:12:57

It's really simple to get involved.

0:12:570:12:58

Just head to the Kickabout website

for all the details.

0:12:580:13:01

And speaking of joining in,

loads of you went online to vote

0:13:010:13:03

for this week's Top Tekkers.

0:13:030:13:05

We asked you to choose between two

Spanish superstars -

0:13:050:13:07

Pedro or Perez.

0:13:070:13:09

So, let's find out if you wanted

to see goals from the Blues

0:13:090:13:14

or goals from the Toon.

0:13:140:13:18

COMMENTATOR: Pedro in a good

position, a little bit of room.

0:13:180:13:21

Too much room!

0:13:210:13:22

A brilliant goal.

0:13:220:13:24

Pedro curls his side level.

0:13:240:13:30

COMMENTATOR: Febregas finds him

beautifully, now Pedro!

0:13:300:13:32

Pedro, the crowd

absolutely loving that.

0:13:320:13:35

Pedro is away...

0:13:350:13:36

Pedro makes it 2-0.

0:13:360:13:38

It's 1-0 to Chelsea!

0:13:380:13:40

Pedro guiding it

into the far corner...

0:13:400:13:48

It's gone through to

Pedro, and it's 2-0!

0:13:480:13:49

Pedro could strike...

0:13:490:13:53

Oh, what a fantastic goal by Pedro!

0:13:530:13:55

From the top draw

into the top corner!

0:13:550:13:57

What a player!

0:13:570:14:00

Nice one, you lot.

0:14:000:14:04
