CAR ROARS PAST

What on earth was that? It sounded like a rocket.

CAR ROARS PAST AGAIN

It's the Wee MacGregors! I didn't know they had a racing car.

Ooh, yes. It used to belong to their grandfather,

Gregor MacGregor, the rally racing radish.

Really?

So if that car belonged to their grandfather, it must be very old.

Oh, yes, it's very old.

It's very, very, very, very, very, very old.

Well, if it's as old as you say,

then I'm surprised it's still working.

Well, Gregor MacGregor was a wise old radish who really looked after his car.

Oh! Racing bean, racing bean!

Colin, you can't race the Wee MacGregors.

Yeah, yeah, yeah!

No, you can't. You don't even have a car.

Oh no, he doesn't, but we could build him one.

Or, we could grow him one!

Raymond, you can't grow cars. You have to build them.

-I once grew a car.

-The tiddlers must be here!

Oh, come on, you lot, we've got a car to build. Yay!

Hey, tiddlers. I'm down here.

I'm glad you're here today because I've got lots to do.

-Now, are you in the mood to help me store some food?

Well, I'm glad because, look. I've been picking lots of apples.

I've been pulling up potatoes. I've been podding peas,

and now, I've got too much food for using at the moment,

so we're going to have to store some of it away.

Just like squirrels.

They bury their nuts in the autumn so they can eat them in the winter

when there's not much food around.

Let's pretend to be squirrels, eh? Let's nibble our nuts.

Yummy.

And hey, we need to bury our other nuts, don't we? Let's dig a hole.

And then take one big nut and put it in, and then cover it up.

That's it. Then stamp it down. Very good.

-Hey, and what else have squirrels got?

-A tail!

That's right, so let's give our squirrels a big, wiggly, bushy tail.

Wiggle it around! Wiggle it all over the place!

Very good, Neil. Those were brilliant squirrel impressions.

Hey, now we've been squirrels, why don't you follow me? Come on!

Now, tiddlers, I was hoping you could help me out with my apples.

If we store these apples properly,

we'll be able to make them last a very long time.

Hey, just like that squirrel with its nuts.

-First of all, what I'd like you to do is to take an apple.

-Big one.

I've got a really big one.

-Hang about, tiddlers, look what I've got here.

-It's a squashy bit.

Yes, it's a bruise.

You know what? If I was to store this away, it would go all bad.

-All the apples would go bad.

-That's right, Olabide.

It would make all the other apples go bad so, tell you what,

it won't go to waste.

I'll give this to Compo for his lunch.

Hey, this one looks a bit better.

First things first, we're going to have to get these apples polished

so they're nice and squeaky clean.

There's one for you. There's one for you, Olabide.

And then we'll give these apples a good old polish.

-Is it looking sparkly?

-Yes.

You have. That's a nice apple, that. Let me see your apples.

I can see Mr Bloom and the tiddlers.

And it looks like they're polishing some apples.

Ooh, I wonder if they'd like to polish Colin's car for us.

Raymond, we still don't have a car for them to polish.

Good point, Joan, but I have drawn this picture.

Now, if you want to store your apples away properly,

the best thing you can do is wrap them up in newspaper.

Pop it on your lap and then you take your apple, put it in the middle.

-Then what do you think you do?

-Scrunch it up around the apple.

You scrunch it up like this.

-It looks like a little present, doesn't it?

-Yes.

This newspaper will stop the apples touching each other

so if one goes mushy, the other apples will still be OK.

-Now, could you help me wrap up some of these apples?

-Yes!

Right, let's start scrunching these apples up.

That's it, come on. Thank you. There's an apple. Scrunch a lot.

Who can make the scrunchiest?

Good work, tiddlers.

Now, all I need to do is to put these somewhere dry and cool,

check them now and again in case any go mushy

and they should last me right the way through winter.

Maybe Compo.

That sounds like one hungry compostarium to me.

Now veggies, what are you going to build this car out of?

Oh! We're going to use Colin's shoebox

and we'll paint it with Joan's

favourite paintbrush, using my lovely pot of green paint.

-The trouble is we can't remember where we left them.

What are you like? You need to take care of your things.

-That's what my mum tells me.

And my paint's all dried up.

if you'd like to ride in their car.

That's good news because now we can have a race.

In one car?

Yeah, Raymond. Tell you what, they could race around a course

and the winner is the one who goes around fastest.

WEE MACGREGORS: Aye!

Hey, I can time the race on my brand-new pocket watch.

What else will they need?

We'll need a flag to wave when the winners cross the line.

You know, one of those black and white ones.

But Mr Bloom, we don't have a flag or a trophy for the winner.

We can make one.

Tiddlers, do you think you could make a flag? And a trophy?

TIDDLERS: Yeah!

I tell you what tiddlers, go over to the make table

-and I'll see what Compo's got for us to use.

Some foil, an egg cup, and some paper to make a chequered flag with.

That's it. Are you going to do the colouring in of those black flags?

-I'm making a trophy.

That's brilliant.

Right. This is the course.

You drive up towards me,

round there and then along by the back window.

You come round by me and then

down towards the flowerpot at the finish.

Wee MacGregors, you can go first.

Neil, you've got your whistle.

Give it a blow to start the race.

Olabide, you're going to wave the flag when they finish? Yeah.

Are you ready, Wee MacGregors?

Just look at them go.

Those radishes are hot!

They've stopped to say hello to a bee!

And across the finishing line they go.

Wee MacGregors, very good. That's a pretty fast time.

-Excellent.

-Now Colin, it's your turn next.

Zoom, zoom, zooming bean! Ha-ha! Oh!

-Ha-ha!

-It looks like the car is broken

and Colin's race is over before it even began!

THEY CHEER

There he goes!

-That bean is flying.

-That's cheating.

-He's not allowed to fly.

-No, I mean you going very fast.

TIDDLERS: Colin! Colin!

COLIN SQUEALS

Colin crosses the finish line. And it's all over.

BOTH: Yay!

Colin, you were faster than the Wee MacGregors so you're the winner.

It's a good job Gregor MacGregor looked after his car.
