Welcome to Newsround. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
Coming up on today's
very chilly show... | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
Hundreds of people spend
the night in their cars. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:16
More misery for Wenger. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:17
A good start for Phil Neville
as England women's manager. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:25
Hi, I'm Ricky. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:34
Welcome to another chilly Newsround. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
Warnings are still in place for snow
and ice, as blizzards continue | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
to sweep across the UK. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:39
Hundreds of schools are still shut. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
In Hampshire and Avon
and Somerset overnight, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
snow meant people became stuck
on the roads and had | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
to sleep in their cars. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
I've been taking a closer look
at what's been going on. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:58
A week of heavy snow. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:07
It's fallen thick and
fast all over the UK. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
From London to Cardiff, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
Belfast and Edinburgh. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:18
The weather's closed schools, roads,
and overnight hundreds | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
of people were stranded
in their cars in the | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
south west of England. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
Do you think you're going to get out
of here? Yeah, of course we will! | 0:01:23 | 0:01:30
Even the snow ploughs
struggled to clear the roads. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:37
For lots of you, it s another snow
day, as many schools remain closed. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
And lots of you have been sending
us your weather reports! | 0:01:40 | 0:01:48
Hi, it is Reuben
speaking from Dartmoor. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:51
Mine and my sister's schools
and nursery have been closed. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:56
And although it is fun having a day
off, we can't go outside | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
because of how cold the snow is! | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
off for some of you,
this | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03 | |
And while the snow
novelty might be wearing | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
off for some of you,
this | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07 | |
lot are having the time
of their lives. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
And here s one definitely
not to try at home - | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
snow canoeing. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
Today will be cold and windy yet
again, with more snow showers | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
in the north-east, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:21
and some in the south, too. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
Next week will see temperatures
start to pick up once again. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Next to Florida in the US,
where kids have returned to school | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
after a serious gun attack
there two weeks ago. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
The BBC's Paul Blake went to meet
one of the students going back | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
to lessons for the first time. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:35
Hey, Newsround. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
I'm here outside a school in Florida
in the United States. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:40
And it's a big day
for students here. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
Their first day back in class
since a gun attack two weeks | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
ago that shocked people
here and around the world. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:51
17 people were killed,
and many others were injured. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
I caught up | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
with 16-year-old Lila Skinner
to ask her about how she felt | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
about going back to school. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
It feels really weird, because I
feel like I fell out of habit | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
of going to school everyday. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
I'm still a little nervous. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
I think eventually it
will be normal again, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
but not the same normal
it was before the... | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
Shooting. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:18
It'll probably be a new type
of normal, because those 17 people | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
aren't going to be there. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:22
As the students filed into class
today, they were hoping | 0:03:22 | 0:03:27
to return to a normal life. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
Many people came to greet
them and offer support. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
Throughout the school day, police
stood guard outside the school | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
so that all the students
and teachers would feel safe. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
After class, Lila met up with some
of her friends, and told me how | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
she felt about her first day
back on campus. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
It was really good to
be back in my school. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
It was great to see everyone. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:50
People that we didn't even talk to,
we talked to them and we let each | 0:03:50 | 0:03:53
other know that we have each other's
back, we support each other, | 0:03:53 | 0:04:01
my friends and I, we hang out,
and we paint and laugh and make | 0:04:01 | 0:04:08
jokes to make each other feel
better, so we can all heal properly. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:11
We're very optimistic
about the future, we are going | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
to make sure everyone is OK
and we're going to find ways that | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
work for us, and we're
just going to move on. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
Now over to the sport,
and for the second time in a week, | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
Manchester City have beaten Arsenal
3-0, this time in | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
the Premier League. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
Take a look at this... | 0:04:27 | 0:04:33
Silva. Oh, it's a very cute goal
indeed! | 0:04:33 | 0:04:39
City have extended their lead
at the top of the table to 16 | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
points, and are now only five wins
away from the title. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
It's a very different
picture though for Arsenal, | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
who were booed by their fans. | 0:04:47 | 0:04:48
Well, the ones that
turned up, anyway. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:50
Phil Neville made the perfect start
to his time in charge | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
of the England women's team. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:53
His side thrashed France 4-1
in the SheBelieves Cup in Ohio. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:58
Next up for England,
Olympic champions Germany on Sunday. | 0:04:58 | 0:05:04
We started with snow,
so let's finish with snow. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:11
Kite-surfing usually
takes place on a beach - | 0:05:11 | 0:05:13
more often than not,
in the sunshine. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:17
But that hasn't stopped
this guy in Ireland. | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
How cool is that?! | 0:05:19 | 0:05:20
Look at him go! | 0:05:20 | 0:05:28
Amazing stuff! | 0:05:31 | 0:05:33
Finally, not long now
until Mother's Day - | 0:05:33 | 0:05:34
not this Sunday, but next. | 0:05:34 | 0:05:35
So we want you to head to Newsround
online and tell us your special | 0:05:35 | 0:05:39
stories about your mum,
grandma, step-mum, aunt, | 0:05:39 | 0:05:40
or any another important
woman in your life. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:43
Plus, thank you so much
for sending us your World Book | 0:05:43 | 0:05:45
Day Costumes yesterday. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:46
There are some truly
amazing ones on there. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:48
Take a look at some of the best... | 0:05:48 | 0:05:50
Brilliant! | 0:05:50 | 0:05:53
I love the hungry Caterpillar! | 0:05:53 | 0:05:55
That's it from me. | 0:05:55 | 0:05:56
If you're having a snow day -
enjoy, but do take care. | 0:05:56 | 0:05:59 |
