Morning, guys, Ricky here with your Tuesday Newsround. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
Coming up: The plan to help out puffins. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
And a very unusual wedding. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:15
Wimbledon has started. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:24
And Andy Murray got over worries about his sore hip | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
to win his opening match. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
The reigning champ beat Alexander Bublik in under two hours | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
and will play Germany's Dustin Brown in Round Two. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:36
And it was a pretty easy day for British number one | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
Johanna Konta, who got through to the next round | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
where she'll play Donna Vekic. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
Now, did you know that nearly 40,000 tennis fans came | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
through the turnstiles here at Wimbledon on | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
the first day alone? | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
That's a lot! | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
So we caught up with a few of them to find out what they were | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
looking forward to. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
It's Wimbledon. | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
It's one of the biggest events in the world. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
I'm very excited to be here at Wimbledon because I haven't | 0:01:03 | 0:01:07
met many players and I've only seen them on TV. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
It's really amazing to be here. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
I've never been here before. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
It's really different than I imagined in my head. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:19
I like Nadal and Federer. | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
They are really good and they're really graceful | 0:01:23 | 0:01:24
when they hit their shots. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
I really, really want to see Andy Murray because he is ranked | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
number one in the world and I can't wait to see him play. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
It's amazing because he's the person I look up to when I play tennis | 0:01:32 | 0:01:36
and I just want to be like when I'm older. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
I know I'm going to see the Nadal match on Court One. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
I'm going to see a bit of the Venus Williams match. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:47
I saw Federer over there warming up. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
What?! | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
Everyone loves puffins. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
But things haven't been so great for these guys lately. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Across the UK, their numbers are down and now there's a threat | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
they could disappear altogether. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
Whitney has been to find out more. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
What do we know about puffins? | 0:02:05 | 0:02:06
They are small, brilliant swimmers. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
They are often paired together for life. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
How sweet. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
I'm here in the very windy Ilse of Mull, as you can see by my hair, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
to take that boat out to the island of Lunga to see some. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
Dave, who is a bird expert in Mull, is going to help me find | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
out more about puffins. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:31
It has been a long journey but we finally made it. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:38
Check this out. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
They are everywhere. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:40
Take a look at this. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
They are so cute. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
Hello. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Just behind us is some beautiful birds. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Apart from being beautiful, what is so special about them? | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
These puffins are now in serious trouble. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
They are on what you call the red list. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
They could go extinct. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
One in ten of all puffins come from the UK so we have got that | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
responsibility to look after them. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
Elsewhere, places like Iceland and parts of northern Scotland, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
the puffin colonies have gone and that is what we are | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
really worried about. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
Why are they declining in other parts of the UK? | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
What we think is the biggest decline is to do with global warming | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
and climate change. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
These birds have evolved to catch particular types of fish | 0:03:20 | 0:03:26
in particular temperatures of seas and as the temperature of the sea | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
is rising those fish are moving further away and out of reach | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
of the puffins. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
What can we do in order to protect these puffins? | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
The RSPB has launched Project Puffin and it is trying to get people | 0:03:35 | 0:03:38
to take photographs of the puffins as they come in with | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
the fish that they catch. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:42
They catch things like sand eels. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
With that we can work out why there is a problem in other | 0:03:44 | 0:03:47
parts of their range. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:48
Why do you love them so much? | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
They are just fantastic little characters, aren't they? | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
Just the fact that they look so happy and secure | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
and yet we know deep down now that they are in trouble. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:58
We could really help this bird and keep it looking bright | 0:03:58 | 0:04:03
and cheerful and happy and go on enjoying it for years to come. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
I think it is time to leave these funny and beautiful birds | 0:04:06 | 0:04:10
in peace but honestly, despite the weather, I could sit | 0:04:10 | 0:04:12
here and watch them all day. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:16
Next up, on to US President Donald Trump, who is being criticised again | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
for what he's put on social media. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:21
Watch this. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:25
Believe it or not, this is Donald Trump. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:30
The US President has put this video on social media. | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
It's an old clip of him appearing on a wrestling TV show but with CNN | 0:04:34 | 0:04:38
over the face of his opponent. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
CNN is a news organisation in America that he has been | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
in a long argument with. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
Fake News, CNN, fake. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:52
He calls them fake news and says they make up | 0:04:52 | 0:04:56
false stories about him. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:57
Loads of people, including some in his own party, | 0:04:57 | 0:05:01
say this sort of thing is really bad behaviour for a President | 0:05:01 | 0:05:04
and he shouldn't be doing it but his supporters say they are just | 0:05:04 | 0:05:07
jokes and they really like his style. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:09
Donald Trump just says he is being a modern President | 0:05:09 | 0:05:12
by using social media in this way. | 0:05:12 | 0:05:22
In Mexico, where this happened over the weekend. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
The mayor of San Pedro Huamelula married a crocodile. | 0:05:24 | 0:05:26
Now, this is a tradition that dates back hundreds of years. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
It's part of a festival to celebrate the town's patron saint. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
The reptile bride, dressed in white with a flower crown on its head, | 0:05:32 | 0:05:37
is taken around the town to music before the ceremony takes place. | 0:05:37 | 0:05:41
I hope there were no crocodile tears. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:44
That's all from me. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:48
Newsround's back at 4:20pm with Hayley. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:51
Don't forget to check out the website for all the rest | 0:05:51 | 0:05:53
of the day's stories. | 0:05:53 | 0:06:00
Roy finds it hard to spend Saturdays away from Becky, in Little Roy next. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:09 |
