Good morning, I'm Ayshah. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
Coming up on Monday's Newsround... | 0:00:06 | 0:00:07
FA cup shocker. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
And, we meet these
fluffy little babies. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:16
First up, how clean
is the air we're breathing? | 0:00:25 | 0:00:29
Research by the World Health
Organisation said the quality | 0:00:29 | 0:00:37
of the air in more than 44 UK
cities isn't good enough. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
And one girl is doing something
to try and change that. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:43
Whitney's been to meet her. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:44
Air pollution isn't
always easy to see. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
It's caused by burning fossil fuels,
things like coal and oil | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
that we use to make heat,
electricity, and to | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
fuel cars and lorries. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
Hadil goes to a school in a part
of London with one of the highest | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
levels of air pollution
in the country. | 0:00:56 | 0:01:00
This road is really busy
with trucks, vans, cars, buses. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04
You name it. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
Using this special camera,
we can see some of the harmful | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
gases in the air. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
Look as it drives off,
look at the cars next to it as well. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
And when you put it
in normal mode... | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
Nothing. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
You can't see anything. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
But what are we actually looking at? | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
This lab measures quality of air
from all over the UK. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:23
Hi, David. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
We've been taking a look
at the exhausts of cars. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
Can you tell us what this means,
and is it really harmful? | 0:01:28 | 0:01:32
Well, I can see here that you've got
pollution coming out | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
of the exhausts of vehicles. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
That's mainly going to be nitrogen
dioxide and very small particles, | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
both of which can be damaging
for your health. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:44
It's not a worry for most
of us who are healthy, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
but if you have an existing problem
with your breathing, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
like many old people do,
or if you have asthma, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
then both of those things can be
affected by air pollution. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:55
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan,
says the problem is unacceptable, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
and has promised to help get
pollution levels down | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
to World Health Organization
standards by 2030. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:06
But Hadil wants more
done more quickly. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
I'm writing this letter
to the London mayor Sadiq Khan | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
to tell him how unhappy I am
about air pollution in London. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
I wrote two proposals. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
The first one is to see more
electric cars on the road, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
and the second one is to get
factories to stop using | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
harmful chemicals. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
She's sending it to City Hall,
where the Mayor of London works. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:30
Newsround contacted Sadiq Khan
about her concerns. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:34
His office told us that the Mayor
was doing everything in his power | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
to tackle London's toxic air. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
Creating 12 low emission bus zones,
phasing out diesel taxis, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
checking the quality of air around
schools, and alerting people | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
when air quality falls
below a certain standard. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:53
They say the Mayor now wants
the Government to introduce | 0:02:53 | 0:02:58
a special fund to help people
replace high emission vehicles. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
The Government has promised to give
£3.5 billion to help | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
improve air quality. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
It plans to end the sale of diesel
and petrol cars and vans by 2040, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
and is publishing a clean air
strategy, setting out further steps | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
to tackle air pollution. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:19
OK, time for some sports news,
and we're starting with a shocker! | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
FA Cup holders Arsenal are out
of this season's competition. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
This incredible goal by Eric Lichaj
helped Championship side | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
Nottingham Forest beat them 4-2. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
It's the first time since 1996 that
Arsenal have been knocked out | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
of the FA Cup in the third-round. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:39
Manchester City's Women
continued their 100% record | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
in the Women's Super League
with a 5-2 victory at Reading. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:46
This whopping header
from Nadia Nadim got City off | 0:03:46 | 0:03:49
to an amazing start,
and means they've now won | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
six matches out of six. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
And England's cricketers
have been beaten again. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:59
They lost their final Test match
against Australia in Sydney. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:01
England were bowled out for 180 runs
meaning the Aussies win the famous | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
Ashes competition 4-0. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:11
This weekend saw the East Coast
of North America shivering | 0:04:11 | 0:04:13
in a record-breaking freeze. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:16
Thousands of snow ploughs are now
trying to clear the roads | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
after a massive snow storm. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:21
Temperatures fell below
minus 29 degrees Celsius. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
That's cold! | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
These girls in Boston sent us this. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
Hi Newsround, this is Boston,
USA, and it's so cold! | 0:04:30 | 0:04:33
We've had 12.5 inches of snow! | 0:04:33 | 0:04:38
It was awesome! | 0:04:38 | 0:04:40
We got the day off school! | 0:04:40 | 0:04:45
We read books, baked banana
bread, and watched TV. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
After the snowstorm,
the snowploughs cleared the roads, | 0:04:47 | 0:04:51
and my mum and dad cleared the snow
in front of our house. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:56
Bye from Boston! | 0:04:56 | 0:04:59
Thanks, girls! | 0:04:59 | 0:05:07

is experiencing its hottest weather
in nearly 80 years! | 0:05:10 | 0:05:12
Temperatures reached over 47
degrees Celsius yesterday. | 0:05:12 | 0:05:16
There've been several major
bushfires, but the fire service | 0:05:16 | 0:05:18
says they've managed
to keep everyone safe. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:22
Last up, let's see some cuteness! | 0:05:22 | 0:05:26
These three newly-born
penguins made their debut | 0:05:26 | 0:05:28
at the Harbin International Ice
and Snow Festival in China. | 0:05:28 | 0:05:35
The oldest of the bunch
was less than 60 days old. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:38
But being young didn't stop
them wanting to explore. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:40
