See ya!

Morning guys, Ayshah

here with your Monday Newsround.

0:00:130:00:17

First up, loads of you will be

staying at home today as hundreds

0:00:170:00:21

of schools are closed

because of the wintery weather.

0:00:210:00:23

Watch this.

0:00:230:00:25

There was plenty of fun to be had

yesterday as snowy weather

0:00:250:00:28

swept across the UK.

0:00:280:00:31

Up to 30cm of snow coated

parts of the country

0:00:310:00:34

Up to 30cm of snow coated

parts of the country.

0:00:340:00:37

I like it because where we live we

never get any snow!

I like snow

0:00:370:00:43

because you can make snow angels and

snowmen! I find it really fun to do.

0:00:430:00:49

And the freezing conditions have

continued this morning,

0:00:490:00:51

meaning hundreds of schools

across England and Wales

0:00:510:00:52

will be closed because

of the wintry weather.

0:00:520:00:55

Temperatures have been between -1

and one degrees in built-up

0:00:550:00:58

areas, but as low as -10C

in some countryside areas.

0:00:580:01:02

Yesterday the snow saw trains

and flights cancelled,

0:01:020:01:10

and provided a snowy

backdrop for some big rugby

0:01:100:01:12

and footy matches.

0:01:120:01:13

The Met Office has issued yellow

weather warnings of ice for Wales,

0:01:130:01:16

the Midlands and the South East.

0:01:160:01:18

It also warned of more wintry

showers and icy conditions

0:01:180:01:20

across Scotland and Northern

Ireland.

0:01:200:01:23

There could be up to 5cm of more

snow in some parts of the South.

0:01:230:01:27

So keep those gloves on, there may

be time to build another snowman!

0:01:270:01:33

And we want to hear from you today -

are you stuck at home

0:01:330:01:36

because of the snow

or are you in school but having fun?

of what you are up to!

0:01:420:01:51

This Christmas, thousands of kids

in the UK are caring for relatives

0:01:510:01:54

who are ill or can't

look after themselves.

0:01:540:01:56

We went to meet Abi to find

out how she and her mum

0:01:560:01:59

will be spending the holidays.

0:01:590:02:06

If I could have a wish,

like one wish, it would be

0:02:060:02:09

to make my mum's illness go.

0:02:090:02:10

For Abi and her mum, Christmas

is their favourite time of year.

0:02:100:02:13

But unlike most 11-year-olds,

Abi cannot just chill

0:02:130:02:15

out over the holidays.

0:02:150:02:16

Her mum has a disease called MS.

0:02:160:02:26

That sometimes stops her from doing

the stuff that she wants,

0:02:290:02:32

like running, walking,

and doing simple activities

0:02:320:02:33

like bending as well.

0:02:330:02:34

That means that Abi has

to help her mum do certain things,

0:02:340:02:37

even on Christmas Day.

0:02:370:02:38

When I wake up, I help her put

some socks on and shoes.

0:02:380:02:41

I come down but I

don't open presents.

0:02:410:02:43

I make breakfast instead.

0:02:430:02:44

It's not how you normally

spend Christmas.

0:02:440:02:46

You feel like you want to do more,

especially when there

0:02:460:02:49

is more special times,

you want to help and

0:02:490:02:51

you want to be there.

0:02:510:03:01

So being a carer for your mum,

does that mean that sometimes

0:03:070:03:10

you miss out on doing things that

people your age would

0:03:100:03:13

normally be doing?

0:03:130:03:14

Well, most young kids

could go to the park

0:03:140:03:16

or play with their friends,

but if my mum is ill,

0:03:160:03:19

or I need to stay on,

I kind of don't have

0:03:190:03:24

that opportunity often.

0:03:240:03:30

Abi will go off and do

all of those brilliant things

0:03:300:03:32

but in her head she is always

thinking, where's Mum?

0:03:320:03:35

Who is with mum?

0:03:350:03:36

It can be really tough caring

for a relative but luckily Abi gets

0:03:360:03:39

lots of support from her school

and at a special group

0:03:390:03:42

run by a charity.

0:03:420:03:43

The help that I get says just

because you are a young carer

0:03:430:03:48

doesn't mean you are different

to everyone else.

0:03:480:03:55

Every bit of being a young carer

is amazing, because you can

0:03:550:03:57

go out with Barnardos,

or Barnardos could help

0:03:570:04:00

you and it's a sign that

you are not alone with this.

0:04:000:04:05

You have people that will help you.

0:04:050:04:08

What does it mean to you to be

a carer for your mum?

0:04:080:04:11

It's like cheese and crackers

or strawberries and cream,

0:04:110:04:14

we stick together for everything.

0:04:140:04:21

Thank you for sharing your story.

0:04:210:04:23

OK - we've got the latest Strictly

news now, so if you don't

0:04:230:04:26

want to know, close your eyes

and hum the theme tune

0:04:260:04:29

for about 30 seconds...

0:04:290:04:30

It's going to be an epic final.

0:04:300:04:32

Jerry and Casio!

0:04:320:04:33

Joe McFadden from Holby TV was first

through along with Debbie McGhee

0:04:400:04:43

and Alexandra Burke.

0:04:430:04:44

That meant Gemma and Molly

in the dance off, and unfortunately

0:04:440:04:47

Molly lost out and will not be

in next week's grand final.

0:04:470:04:50

That's it from me for now,

Newsround's back in about half

0:04:500:04:53

an hour when you can find out

about Britian's

0:04:530:04:55

new tallest mountain.

0:04:550:05:00

No way! See you
