Hi everyone, I'm Ricky and this is Newsround. | :00:12. | :00:14.
First, to a very serious fire that broke out in a tower block | :00:15. | :00:17.
It happened at the Grenfell Tower in North Kensington in West London. | :00:18. | :00:26.
I'm actually in a community centre where there is loads of activity | :00:27. | :00:38.
going on behind me. I will tell you about that in a little bit. | :00:39. | :00:41.
Engineers are currently checking the building but here is what we now | :00:42. | :00:50.
happened. The fire started just before 1.00am in the morning. | :00:51. | :00:55.
Emergency services arrived at the scene within six minutes, with 40 | :00:56. | :01:00.
fire engines and is 200 firefighters coming to help get people out safely | :01:01. | :01:04.
and get the fire under control. The London Fire Brigade said they were | :01:05. | :01:08.
able to rescue lots of people but sadly some have died and more than | :01:09. | :01:12.
70 people have been taken to hospital. We are still working very | :01:13. | :01:17.
hard. We rescued large numbers of people from inside the building very | :01:18. | :01:21.
early on across a range of different floors. We have fire crews | :01:22. | :01:24.
continuing to work very hard in there at the moment and we are | :01:25. | :01:26.
making steady progress going through the whole building. When fires | :01:27. | :01:31.
started flats like these, they don't usually spread between floors. | :01:32. | :01:35.
Police are investigating how this fire happened to make sure that it | :01:36. | :01:39.
doesn't happen again. People living nearby flats have been doing what | :01:40. | :01:43.
they can to help. Emergency centres have opened for those who cannot go | :01:44. | :01:47.
home, with people bringing food, drink, clothes and toiletries, and | :01:48. | :01:50.
donating money for those who have lost everything. Supplies have also | :01:51. | :01:55.
been donated to police and fire crews who worked through the night. | :01:56. | :01:59.
The member of Parliament for Kensington said that every single | :02:00. | :02:02.
person affected will be looked after. As soon as I came to this | :02:03. | :02:08.
community centre, they were actually turning people away. There were too | :02:09. | :02:11.
many donations. A lot of people with loads of bags, food and blankets. If | :02:12. | :02:18.
you can see, there are shoes on the ground, and there are people around. | :02:19. | :02:22.
There are loads of people with boxes and they are all trying to help | :02:23. | :02:27.
their community. One age old I spoke to, she lives around the corner, and | :02:28. | :02:33.
she told me how she was helping. I have got some fruit and food, and I | :02:34. | :02:41.
went to the church and I started giving out some free food, for the | :02:42. | :02:50.
homeless people. That was Lina and she was telling me that she brought | :02:51. | :02:55.
her old hijabs to give to Muslim girls who might have been in that | :02:56. | :02:57.
building so they had something to cover their heads. That is what she | :02:58. | :03:02.
was doing to help. One more bit of information to give you, the chief | :03:03. | :03:06.
fire officer said that this is unprecedented, which means that | :03:07. | :03:09.
nothing like this has happened before. Investigations are ongoing | :03:10. | :03:13.
at the moment and the homeless are being looked after. So those in that | :03:14. | :03:17.
building, they are being looked after at the moment. Remember, if | :03:18. | :03:21.
anything on this story upsets you or anything else in the news, you can | :03:22. | :03:26.
go to newsround online. But for me in London, that is all. | :03:27. | :03:28.
Other news now and the singer, Ariana Grande is to become | :03:29. | :03:31.
She's to get a Manchester citizenship even though | :03:32. | :03:34.
It's the city's way of saying thank you for Ariana's amazing work | :03:35. | :03:42.
organising the One Love concert in Manchester, in aid of victims | :03:43. | :03:45.
And victims of the Manchester and London attacks were remembered | :03:46. | :03:49.
French players and fans showed solidarity with England, | :03:50. | :03:55.
by joining in with the UK national anthem, followed by a minute's | :03:56. | :03:59.
silence at a friendly football match. | :04:00. | :04:03.
Pelicans are rejoicing - to be set free - as they've been | :04:04. | :04:06.
helped back to health in California, America. | :04:07. | :04:09.
Hundreds of pelicans have been seriously poorly due | :04:10. | :04:14.
to a poisonous algae that has been growing far too rapidly | :04:15. | :04:16.
While small amounts of this algae are fine, | :04:17. | :04:21.
the pelicans have big appetites and too much of the green | :04:22. | :04:26.
stuff makes them so ill they can't swim or fly. | :04:27. | :04:28.
So wildlife reserves like this one are nursing them back to health | :04:29. | :04:31.
and then setting them free when their tummies are better. | :04:32. | :04:36.
It's the best part of my job, releasing pelicans. You see them in | :04:37. | :04:42.
the pool, and they look like they are doing OK but once you bring them | :04:43. | :04:45.
out here you see how happy they are to be out and back in the wilds, and | :04:46. | :04:49.
the best thing is when they jump out of the crate so fast that they kick | :04:50. | :04:50.
sand in your face. Newsround's back with more top | :04:51. | :04:52.
stories from 7.40 tomorrow morning. And if anything has upset you this | :04:53. | :05:00.
afternoon, there is plenty of advice online. | :05:01. | :05:03.
Yo, whassup? Do you watch CBBC shows on your phone or tablet? | :05:04. | :05:06.
Well, you've got to do something really important, yeah? | :05:07. | :05:13.
to be able to watch shows on your iPlayer app, | :05:14. | :05:17. |
