Good morning, it's Thursday, I'm Jenny and this is Newsround. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:07
Don't go anywhere! | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
Coming up, Birmingham gets the perfect new arrival. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:14
And wakeboarders in Germany hit some unusual spots. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
With Wimbledon starting in just a few days, let's begin with a bit | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
of sport this morning. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
World number one Andy Murray has been named as the top seed in | 0:00:30 | 0:00:34
the men's competition for Wimbledon. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
That means he's the favourite to win. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
It would be his third title at the All-England club. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
In the women's competition, British number one Jo Konta | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
is the sixth seed. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
The 19-time world and Olympic champion Usain Bolt made his first | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
appearance of the season in Europe last night, in the Czech | 0:00:49 | 0:00:53
city of Ostrava. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:56
And the Jamaican world record holder won in the 100 metres. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
Course he did! | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
He's getting ready for the World Championships | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
in London in August, after which he'll retire. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
I'm just getting into my running now from training, but I'll be fine. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:10
When I get checked out by my doctor, the coach | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
give me some training, I | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
should be fine, so I'm in no worries. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
Next up, just before last Christmas, we told you about some very special | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
penguins that travelled to a new home in Birmingham. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
Well, now there's been another new arrival. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
This cutie. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
Here's Hayley. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
A baby penguin chick cuddles up to his mum and dad at | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
They might look pretty chilled out, but his parents took an | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
epic journey to get here. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
This group of gentoo penguins used to live in | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
places like Denmark, Canada and New Zealand, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
but they were moved to their new | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
home in Birmingham as part a worldwide breeding programme. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:54
home in Birmingham as part of a worldwide breeding programme. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
It wasn't an easy journey. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:58
The penguins had to be moved across the world in a | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
special van to keep them cool. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
Well, that was last year, and now, this little cutie is the first baby | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
born to the group. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
Keepers are hoping for some brothers and sisters to | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
keep this furry family growing. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:13
Fatbergs! | 0:02:13 | 0:02:14
The super gross collections of fat that join together, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
and clog up our sewers. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
"Eugh," I hear you say! | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
Well, now they've gone from yuck to useful, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
and are being turned into something a lot more valuable. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
Watch this. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:32
Deep below our feet in the sewers underground, something nasty lurks. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:37
When people pour fat and grease from cooking down the drain, the fat | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
clumps together to create massive horrible fatbergs. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:47
Some fatbergs are huge and creates big problems, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:52
costing water companies a lot of money to clear away. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
That's about four feet deep down there. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
But now, this sewer sludge is about to be | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
changed into something really valuable. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
A fuel company is going around sucking up the fatbergs. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
They are then taken to a special processing plant, where they can be | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
turned into a type of car fuel called bio diesel. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:12
So we've collected a fatberg from a water | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
company sewer. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:15
The vehicle has travelled down, he's come to site, he's now | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
tipping. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
There's a lot of solid in this one, so actually he's using the | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
tipping truck to tip that in there. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
This is where we receive all those raw materials to turn into biofuel. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
The fat gets heated, pumped and filtered, | 0:03:28 | 0:03:32
removing all the sludge and slime. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:37
So we've removed all of the solids, all of the liquid and we're | 0:03:37 | 0:03:40
left with a really clean oil that looks a little bit like this. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:43
From this...to this. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:45
Pretty remarkable. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:49
The bio diesel is way cleaner for the | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
environment than regular diesel, and this plant can make up | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
to 90 million litres a year. | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
But are there enough slimy fatbergs around? | 0:03:57 | 0:04:00
I guess it's difficult to say. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:02
As part of the trial, we've been taking about 30 | 0:04:02 | 0:04:05
tonnes a week out of Birmingham. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:12
That's 30 tonnes of fatbergs from just Birmingham every week. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
I don't know whether to be disgusted or | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
impressed. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:17
So, from yuk to useful, fatbergs are being turned into | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
something pretty nifty. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:23
Finally, what do you do if you're an international cable | 0:04:23 | 0:04:26
wakeboarder in Germany? | 0:04:26 | 0:04:28
Search for new fancy spots to wakeboard, of course! | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
For two weeks, six of the best international cable wakeboarders | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
slid, jumped and flipped in search of unusual places to explore. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:38
They travelled 2,000 kilometres, with spectacular obstacles and some | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
pretty cool backdrops. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
That's all from the team for now, Newsround's back right here at 8.15. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
Don't forget, you can head online for all the rest | 0:04:48 | 0:04:50
of the day's top stories. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
Bye! | 0:04:52 | 0:04:52 |
