Welcome to Newsround
on Wednesday morning! | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
Here's all the news you need
to know this morning. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:17
We meet this somersaulting teenager! | 0:00:17 | 0:00:21
Plus the street that's
outshining the rest. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:31
A Formula E car takes on a Cheetah. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
Who will win? | 0:00:33 | 0:00:38
This is Newsround. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
First, lets go to the
sports stories today. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
Amazing news for women's
football this morning. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:43
England made it three wins out
of three in World Cup qualifying | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
as they thrashed
Kazakhstan 5-0 last night, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
Nikita Parris scoring
the third goal here. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
They're second in their group
after leaders Wales beat Bosnia 1-0. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
Northern Ireland won
3-1 against Slovakia. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
Manchester United beat Watford 4-2, | 0:00:58 | 0:01:03
Jesse Lingard here with the pick
of the goals, to narrow the gap | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
on rivals City to five points
at the top of the Premier League. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:14
Talking of goals, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
look at this one from
Leicester's Riyad Mahrez | 0:01:16 | 0:01:17
that helped the former
champions beat Tottenham 2-1. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
Next, it's pretty hard
to do a backflip, | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
but imagine managing
it in a wheelchair. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
Well, Lily Rice is the first woman
in the UK to do just that! | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
She tells us all about how
she managed this awesome trick. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:35
I'm Lily Rice, I'm 13 years
old, and I ride WCMX. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:47
WCMX stands for
wheelchair motocross. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
It involves riding
a wheelchair in a skatepark. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:54
You ride the wheelchair
like a BMXer would ride a BMX, | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
or a skateboarder would ride
a skateboard, or a scooter | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
would ride a scooter. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
I started riding early March,
and we just, like, stayed on a | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
few banks, which are basically
like small hills going up and down. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
But as my confidence increased,
I started to try bigger ramps, | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
and then eventually did a small
quarter pipe, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
which is about two feet. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
And I felt so happy when I did that. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:19
But now, looking back
on that, I think that's | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
nothing compared to
what I'm doing now. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
The backflip wasn't really a target,
I kind of just arrived at | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
the skatepark and I was like,
"I want to try a backflip". | 0:02:26 | 0:02:31
Practised into a foam pit first,
which is like a big | 0:02:31 | 0:02:35
ramp going up into a pit
of foam, basically. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
It kind of describes itself. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
Then I moved onto a resi ramp,
which is a normal ramp made for | 0:02:38 | 0:02:42
practising tricks. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
Once I landed it, I was,
like, really happy. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
I was ecstatic and I screamed. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:50
It is different to what
other people are doing. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
I rock up to the skate park,
and people are like, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
"Why is there a wheelchair here?" | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
Then I go onto one of the ramps,
and they are like, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
"Oh, my God". | 0:02:59 | 0:03:00
I'd like to try a front flip
now that I can do a backflip. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
No woman has ever done
a front flip, so I | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
would be the first woman to do that. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
Skateboarding is going to
the Olympics next year, and I really | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
hope WCMX can go to
the Paralympics as well. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
I want to inspire others and show
people that you can do | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
whatever you want. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:17
You just have to put
your mind to it. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:22
Now it's time for some racing. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:23
But not the kind of race
you see every day - | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
this is racing with a twist. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
In one corner, we've got
the world's fastest mammal, | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
and in the other, a Formula E car! | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
This is going to be epic. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
On your marks, get set, go! | 0:03:35 | 0:03:39
They are sleek,
slender, and stealthy. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:44
But cheetahs are definitely
known for their speed. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:48
They can reach up to 60
mph in three seconds, | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
which, funnily enough,
is the same as a Formula E car. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:54
So, who would win a race? | 0:03:54 | 0:03:58
It's time to find out. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:02
That was awesome, and so much closer
than I thought it would be! | 0:04:17 | 0:04:21
But there is a serious side to this. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:25
There are now only 7,000
cheetahs left in the wild. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:28
They are one of the ten most
endangered species on our planet, | 0:04:28 | 0:04:31
and unless something changes,
they could be in big trouble. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:37
By organising the race,
the owner of Formula E wanted to | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
highlight the terrible effects
climate change is having on this | 0:04:40 | 0:04:44
magnificent animal, and ways
to better protect the environment, | 0:04:44 | 0:04:48
including the use of electric cars. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:53
An entire street in Hampshire has
been decorated with festive | 0:04:53 | 0:04:57
lights by a man who really loves
Christmas. | 0:04:57 | 0:04:59
He started persuading every
one of his neighbours | 0:04:59 | 0:05:01
to decorate their homes
13 years ago. | 0:05:01 | 0:05:04
This year, hundreds of people turned
up to see the switch-on. | 0:05:04 | 0:05:07
So far, around £50,000 has
been raised for charity, | 0:05:07 | 0:05:11
and the lights attract
thousands of people | 0:05:11 | 0:05:13
in the run-up to Christmas. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:19
Just enough time to tell you to head
online, where you can get | 0:05:19 | 0:05:22
all the details
of the Royal Wedding. | 0:05:22 | 0:05:23
Congratulations again
to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:25
We can't wait! | 0:05:25 | 0:05:27
My invitation had
better be in the post! | 0:05:27 | 0:05:31
Plus if you're a basketball fan,
we have some great tips | 0:05:31 | 0:05:34
from the actual Harlem
Globetrotters. | 0:05:34 | 0:05:35
Their skills really are amazing! | 0:05:35 | 0:05:37
Think I'll have to do
a bit more practice! | 0:05:37 | 0:05:40
And if you've got time before
school, | 0:05:40 | 0:05:42
don't forget the quiz of the week. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:43
It's a tough one this week! | 0:05:43 | 0:05:45
Thanks for watching. | 0:05:45 | 0:05:46
Have a great day at school. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:47
Martin's back with
lots more excitement | 0:05:47 | 0:05:49
on Newsround this afternoon. | 0:05:49 | 0:05:53 |
