Nine Minute Ninja.

0:00:020:00:04

Time to get my ninja on...

0:00:050:00:07

and my clothes.

0:00:070:00:08

Art Ninja.

0:00:220:00:24

HE SNEEZES

0:00:240:00:25

-Dad, you put the kettle on yet?

-No, I'm disinfecting.

0:00:260:00:29

I hope you're wearing gloves. That's some strong stuff.

0:00:290:00:32

Of course! I've got your lilac gloves with the floral cuffs.

0:00:320:00:35

Er, they're not mine. Someone must've left them here.

0:00:350:00:39

-TV:

-Hey, you there!

0:00:390:00:41

This guy's always on telly.

0:00:410:00:43

He thinks he's got the world in the palm of his hand.

0:00:430:00:45

Here's something you'll just have to own.

0:00:450:00:48

A unique piece of art - it's a picture of your fingerprint.

0:00:480:00:53

I was right about the hand.

0:00:540:00:56

And worry not! Although it's a massive fingerprint,

0:00:560:00:59

you won't need a big hand.

0:00:590:01:00

Here's how you make it.

0:01:000:01:03

You'll need a tray, some paper and an inkpad.

0:01:030:01:08

Now you need to make a fingerprint.

0:01:090:01:11

With a photocopier or computer,

0:01:160:01:18

enlarge to make the fingerprint fill an A4 page.

0:01:180:01:22

Gigantic.

0:01:230:01:25

Next, you'll need some PVA glue with a nozzle, preferably.

0:01:260:01:31

You must apply the glue to the print.

0:01:320:01:34

Ensure you follow the lines of the fingerprint very carefully

0:01:340:01:38

to make sure they are all covered.

0:01:380:01:40

The glue application may take some time.

0:01:410:01:44

Phew!

0:01:440:01:45

Grab some glitter and sprinkle liberally over the glued lines.

0:01:480:01:51

Once your print is covered with glitter,

0:01:550:01:57

shake off the excess glitter onto the tray. Mesmerising!

0:01:570:02:02

Shaky-shaky.

0:02:030:02:05

Finally, get a frame and attach it to your fingerprint picture

0:02:050:02:11

Perfect!

0:02:140:02:15

The fingerprint picture!

0:02:160:02:18

Available on a hand near you!

0:02:180:02:20

Wow. Have to get my hands on one of those.

0:02:250:02:29

Art Ninja!

0:02:290:02:30

I remember when these guys were just knee-high to a grasshopper.

0:02:300:02:34

Do you know what? I'll show you how to make your own.

0:02:340:02:36

I think I've got everything I need.

0:02:380:02:41

Got my soil, grass seeds, yoghurt pot and tights...and some water.

0:02:410:02:46

OK, so a tufty-head is basically some seeds

0:02:460:02:49

and soil in the end of some old tights.

0:02:490:02:52

Ask your mum sister or auntie, but please ask, or you and me

0:02:520:02:56

could both be in trouble.

0:02:560:02:57

I'm going to use a mug, like that. Holds it open nicely.

0:02:570:03:02

Then, you could put in some seeds.

0:03:020:03:04

Now, quite a generous portion, I'd say just over a teaspoon,

0:03:040:03:08

cos they're going to grow the hair of the tufty-head.

0:03:080:03:10

So, just throw them in like that.

0:03:100:03:13

Right, then, quite a generous amount of soil.

0:03:130:03:17

Make use it's nicely full, push it down.

0:03:180:03:20

OK, then slide it off and make sure it all goes down to the bottom

0:03:220:03:26

in a nice big ball like that.

0:03:260:03:29

And tie a knot in the end of the tights

0:03:290:03:31

to keep all the soil in place...

0:03:310:03:33

..like so.

0:03:340:03:35

Get your yoghurt pot

0:03:370:03:38

and fill it with water - about a third of the way up.

0:03:380:03:41

And then, knot first, put your tights full of soil into it,

0:03:440:03:49

so all the seeds are at the top.

0:03:490:03:51

Then, the water will start to soak its way up the tights,

0:03:510:03:53

through the soil and feed the seeds at the top.

0:03:530:03:55

And after about two weeks, watering it every day,

0:03:550:03:58

left in a sunny place...

0:03:580:04:00

It'll look like this!

0:04:000:04:02

Looks good and green, but lacks character,

0:04:020:04:05

but we'll soon fix that.

0:04:050:04:06

You need to get some card and start drawing some eyes and a mouth.

0:04:060:04:10

Cool.

0:04:160:04:17

Once you've cut them out, you need to stick them to your tufty-head.

0:04:170:04:21

I'm using some sticky-tack.

0:04:210:04:22

Right about there.

0:04:240:04:25

Ah, yeah! Looks awesome, doesn't he?

0:04:300:04:33

Right, let's get him back up on that window sill.

0:04:340:04:36

All they need now is sunshine.

0:04:380:04:40

MUSIC: Bicycle Race by Queen

0:04:430:04:47

I've got an idea that will transform your bike into a crazy

0:04:530:04:57

mobile animation machine.

0:04:570:04:58

Pretty cool, huh?

0:05:050:05:06

You can make an awesome mobile bike-wheel animation with

0:05:060:05:09

cardboard, some scissors, a bike and a camera.

0:05:090:05:13

And you can make this animation in just three ninja moves.

0:05:130:05:16

Ninja move number one.

0:05:160:05:18

As I'm in a skate park, I'm going to do, well, a skateboarding trick - a kickflip.

0:05:190:05:23

So, I'm just going to start by drawing some guide images.

0:05:230:05:26

And I'm going to do an animation cycle of ten frames.

0:05:290:05:32

I think that's just the right amount of room to go around the wheel.

0:05:320:05:35

I've got a bit of old scrap card

0:05:350:05:37

and I measured it to make sure it would fit the wheel.

0:05:370:05:39

Now, I folded it into tenths, so I've got the right amount of space around the wheel for my ten frames.

0:05:390:05:44

This ends up being about that size.

0:05:440:05:46

That is a good guide for how much frame space I have to work with,

0:05:460:05:49

so I'm going to cut that bit out

0:05:490:05:51

and that's how much space I'm going to have.

0:05:510:05:53

So, I'm going to draw around that.

0:05:530:05:55

These are my templates for my ten frames.

0:05:550:05:59

OK, now I'm going to roughly draw my character

0:05:590:06:01

on to teach of these templates.

0:06:010:06:03

My drawings don't have to be perfect

0:06:030:06:05

cos I'm going to cut them out anyway.

0:06:050:06:06

If there's loads to cut out, get someone to help you.

0:06:060:06:09

I'm thinking, when the board turns over, I'd like it to be

0:06:100:06:13

a different colour, just so it gives you the idea of it being 3D.

0:06:130:06:16

So, I'm replacing the upside-down skateboards with red card versions.

0:06:160:06:20

Ninja move number two.

0:06:230:06:25

It's time to attach my frames to my bike wheel

0:06:250:06:28

and I'm going to do that with some thick, black tape.

0:06:280:06:30

So, I'm attaching my frames to the bike wheel by putting black

0:06:300:06:33

tape on one side of the spokes and the frames on the other.

0:06:330:06:36

Make sure you take care when you're positioning your frames

0:06:360:06:39

and be sure that they're an equal distance apart.

0:06:390:06:41

I'm using thin card for this animation and this is because,

0:06:420:06:46

if any of the frames fall off, the card is not strong enough

0:06:460:06:48

to get caught in the spokes and stop the wheel, so it's safe.

0:06:480:06:52

Check out that!

0:06:550:06:57

It's looking good even without animating it.

0:06:570:07:00

Ninja move number three.

0:07:000:07:02

It's time to capture your animation.

0:07:020:07:03

You can either put your bike upside-down and crank

0:07:030:07:05

the pedals, and shoot in just the right place to get the animation,

0:07:050:07:09

or you can do what I'm going to do

0:07:090:07:11

and take this mini masterpiece for a spin.

0:07:110:07:13

You can't see this through the naked eye,

0:07:160:07:18

only through a camera view-finder, so get one of your mates to

0:07:180:07:21

video it when you cycle around or crank the wheel yourself.

0:07:210:07:24

Simply play it back to see the optical illusion in action.

0:07:240:07:27

There you go - an awesome bike-wheel animation.

0:07:290:07:33

Pretty easy to pick up.

0:07:330:07:34

It's hard to forget.

0:07:340:07:35

It's a bit like riding a bike.

0:07:350:07:37

Now, you get animating. Imagine what you could do!

0:07:400:07:43

Art Ninja!

0:07:450:07:46

Here's a real quick art tip -

0:07:480:07:49

how to make things look like they're moving really fast.

0:07:490:07:53

Now, I'm going to start my drawing with a car cos cars are quick.

0:07:530:07:56

Windscreen, couple of wheels, there's the light.

0:07:560:08:00

Now I'm going to draw the driver, so here he is in there.

0:08:000:08:03

Hands on the wheel, ten and two.

0:08:050:08:07

And I'm going to give him some hair and I'm going to do this with zigzag lines going backwards

0:08:080:08:12

to show the wind going through his hair.

0:08:120:08:14

Now, I'm going to add some action lines behind the car.

0:08:140:08:17

So, whichever way your character's travelling,

0:08:170:08:20

make sure your action lines are behind.

0:08:200:08:21

And this makes it look like it's travelling really fast.

0:08:230:08:25

On the wheels, I'm going to add some, too.

0:08:270:08:29

But on these, I'm going to put a little curve, just to show that the wheel's going round.

0:08:300:08:34

And finally, for extra speed,

0:08:340:08:36

I'm going to add a puff of smoke coming out of the back of the car.

0:08:360:08:39

There we go - a quick art tip.
