Time to get my ninja on.

0:00:050:00:06

And my clothes.

0:00:060:00:08

Wow. I love this flat! It's so bright.

0:00:260:00:30

Ninja murals, my trusty art table.

0:00:300:00:34

This place is a part of me. I never leave it.

0:00:340:00:38

It's what gives me my ninja skills.

0:00:380:00:41

Hmm. What's this?

0:00:410:00:42

Property for sale!

0:00:440:00:46

Perfect art studio in the heart of Bristol.

0:00:460:00:48

Well, can't hurt to have a look... just out of interest.

0:00:480:00:52

Hey, look.

0:00:520:00:54

Trendy sofa, lovely kitchen, and...

0:00:540:00:57

Hang on a minute, that's my flat!

0:00:570:01:00

The landlord's selling my flat. He can't do this to me!

0:01:000:01:04

DIALS PHONE NUMBER

0:01:040:01:05

BEEP BEEP Oh, he's not in.

0:01:050:01:07

He's probably out selling flats without telling people.

0:01:070:01:10

I'll leave a message. Hi, Landlord, it's Ricky.

0:01:100:01:14

You need to come over here immediately. Love you!

0:01:140:01:17

No, I mean... No, bye!

0:01:170:01:20

The idea of this flat being sold makes me want to scream like this...

0:01:200:01:23

HE SCREAMS

0:01:230:01:27

I feel like my head is going to pop off.

0:01:270:01:29

POP POP POP

0:01:290:01:31

That does give me an idea to do some pop art!

0:01:310:01:34

Selfie! HE SCREAMS

0:01:340:01:37

Here we go. I'll just print that out.

0:01:370:01:40

Like a ninja!

0:01:400:01:41

I've got some acetate back here

0:01:430:01:45

and I'm going to lay that sheet over my photograph

0:01:450:01:48

and with a marker pen, draw my main facial features.

0:01:480:01:51

Start with my glasses.

0:01:510:01:53

You need to use a permanent marker to draw onto acetate,

0:01:550:01:58

otherwise your pen marks might smudge.

0:01:580:02:01

Just colouring in the glasses.

0:02:010:02:03

Here we go.

0:02:030:02:04

Look at that. It's already looking really pop arty.

0:02:060:02:10

To turn myself into pop art, I'm going to need some dots.

0:02:100:02:13

So I'm going to need a hole punch to help me.

0:02:130:02:16

A couple more.

0:02:160:02:18

I'm just going to empty those dots out. Look at that.

0:02:180:02:22

If I stick these red dots onto my acetate outline,

0:02:220:02:25

I'll transform myself into a Roy Lichtenstein inspired picture.

0:02:250:02:29

WHAM! It's me, Roy Lichtenstein!

0:02:310:02:33

You scared me there, Roy.

0:02:330:02:35

Ha-ha! I do like to pop art on people. Pop art? Get it?

0:02:350:02:41

I used thick outlines, bold colours and I love drawing comic strips.

0:02:410:02:45

I also used dots called Ben Day Dots based on printing techniques

0:02:450:02:50

from the 19th century.

0:02:500:02:52

My work looks like it was created by photographic reproduction

0:02:520:02:55

and my work itself continues

0:02:550:02:57

to be reproduced and copied to this day.

0:02:570:03:00

So you won't mind if I make a homage to your work here then, Roy.

0:03:000:03:03

Here's to you.

0:03:030:03:05

-Hey!

-Sorry, Roy!

0:03:070:03:10

OK, I've got some gridded paper

0:03:100:03:12

under here and I'm going to put my acetate outline onto it.

0:03:120:03:15

That will help me lay out my dots.

0:03:150:03:16

Now I'm going to turn my acetate over so that when I put the dots on

0:03:160:03:20

I don't have to redraw the lines,

0:03:200:03:21

and I'm going to angle it ever so slightly diagonally

0:03:210:03:24

because it's more in keeping with the way that Roy did his work.

0:03:240:03:27

Now I'm going to start sticking them on.

0:03:270:03:30

I'm using a cocktail stick because it can get

0:03:300:03:32

a little bit fiddly and it gives me a lot more control.

0:03:320:03:35

And I'm positioning these dots

0:03:350:03:38

one square unit of the grid paper apart.

0:03:380:03:41

PVA glue is good because it dries transparent.

0:03:410:03:44

HIYAH-HA!

0:03:460:03:47

That's the last dot done. Quick peek.

0:03:470:03:50

Now I'm going to move on to some painting.

0:03:500:03:52

And I'm using some bright primary colours just like Lichtenstein.

0:03:520:03:56

A bit of red for my top. I've got some yellow. That's for my hair.

0:03:560:03:59

And a bit of blue for the top of my shirt.

0:04:000:04:03

All right, I'll start with the yellow.

0:04:030:04:05

I'm using acrylic paint because it sticks better to acetate.

0:04:050:04:08

Remember, I'm painting on the back here

0:04:090:04:12

so it doesn't matter if I go over the lines.

0:04:120:04:14

Now a bit of blue for my shirt. You don't have to use paint.

0:04:150:04:18

You could use coloured markers. Finally, some red.

0:04:180:04:21

I'm painting the acetate on top of some white paper.

0:04:220:04:25

It's just easier to see where I'm painting.

0:04:250:04:28

I think that's done. Let's check it out.

0:04:280:04:31

Time for another selfie!

0:04:340:04:36

I look a bit dotty.

0:04:380:04:40

I'll just print that out.

0:04:400:04:42

Ninja skills.

0:04:420:04:43

Well worth a frame.

0:04:430:04:45

There you go. A perfect pop art portrait.

KNOCK AT DOOR

0:04:560:04:58

I think you're going to love this place.

0:04:580:05:00

Just let yourselves in, why don't you(?)

0:05:000:05:02

As the advert says, it's bijou

0:05:020:05:04

but as you can see it's exciting and full of potential.

0:05:040:05:07

This is the living room - perfect for living in.

0:05:070:05:10

THEY LAUGH

0:05:100:05:11

I could really see myself living here. It's very me.

0:05:110:05:14

Who are you guys?

0:05:140:05:16

They look strangely familiar.

0:05:160:05:18

This old table.

0:05:180:05:19

You're going to want to get rid of this monstrosity.

0:05:190:05:21

Ew, simply ghastly.

0:05:210:05:23

-Yes, one will definitely be putting an offer in.

-Splendid.

0:05:240:05:28

Ricky, Ricky, Ricky!

0:05:300:05:32

Ah! Some future ninjas.

0:05:320:05:34

Ricky, can you make art with an egg whisk?

0:05:340:05:37

Not right now, my brain's a bit scrambled.

0:05:370:05:39

AWW!

0:05:390:05:41

BOTH: Hi, Ricky!

0:05:410:05:43

Can you make art with sandpaper?

0:05:430:05:46

All right. I choose you.

0:05:460:05:48

BOTH: Yay!

0:05:480:05:49

-What're your names?

-I'm Nia.

-I'm Mia.

0:05:490:05:52

-And where're you guys from?

-London.

-London. Awesome.

0:05:520:05:55

Using sandpaper, I'm going to make a smooth picture

0:05:550:05:57

of a rough looking Viking.

0:05:570:05:59

I've got some oil pastels and my sandpaper.

0:06:000:06:03

I'm going to start off by drawing his Viking face

0:06:030:06:06

and I'm going to give him a helmet.

0:06:060:06:09

I've got a time travel app today.

0:06:090:06:11

If you could travel anywhere in time, where would you go?

0:06:110:06:15

-I'd go to the 3080s.

-3080. Why there then?

0:06:150:06:18

To see if there's actually flying cars.

0:06:180:06:20

Do you know what, I was there earlier.

0:06:200:06:22

There's flying cars all over the place.

0:06:220:06:25

I'm making sure I'm making very thick lines on the page

0:06:250:06:28

with the oil pastels and getting a very thick cover.

0:06:280:06:31

And I'm blending in the colours

0:06:310:06:34

just so it flows nicely from dark to light.

0:06:340:06:36

Give him some horns on his helmet so he's a proper Viking.

0:06:360:06:39

Just putting some highlights.

0:06:390:06:41

I'm going to go back in with some black

0:06:410:06:44

and put in a bit of detail now.

0:06:440:06:46

Here's how he's looking. BOTH: Wow!

0:06:490:06:52

And now I'm going to do something

0:06:520:06:54

that's going to make it look super old and mega-cool.

0:06:540:06:56

I've got some baking paper here and I'm going to lay it down

0:06:560:06:59

with the non-shiny side up, pop my picture on it...

0:06:590:07:03

And here's the cool bit, believe it or not,

0:07:040:07:07

because I'm going to go and do a spot of ironing.

0:07:070:07:09

So I've got an iron set to medium heat.

0:07:090:07:11

You need to be careful with irons

0:07:110:07:13

so get an adult to help you or supervise.

0:07:130:07:16

I'm going to put a tea towel over and that's to protect the iron

0:07:160:07:18

and to make the heat disperse evenly across the picture.

0:07:180:07:21

Slow and steady wins the race with this one.

0:07:210:07:24

Now the heat will melt the oil pastel

0:07:240:07:27

and transfer the picture to the baking paper.

0:07:270:07:30

Just give it a little check to make sure it's transferring

0:07:300:07:33

because it might need some more ironing.

0:07:330:07:35

Oh, wow! Look at that.

0:07:360:07:38

I'll just turn the iron off and let it cool down.

0:07:380:07:41

Let's go and show those guys.

0:07:440:07:46

OK so I've ironed my picture.

0:07:460:07:48

Time to peel it off.

0:07:480:07:50

Oh, yes. It looks super old and worn.

0:07:540:07:57

-Do you want to check it out?

-Yes, please.

0:07:570:08:00

What do you make of that?

0:08:000:08:01

BOTH: Wow!

0:08:010:08:03

What would you score it?

0:08:030:08:06

-10 out of 10.

-I think it deserves a frame.

0:08:060:08:08

Look at that. It looks ancient. Great suggestion, guys.

0:08:110:08:14

Thanks very much. ALL: Bye!

KNOCK AT DOOR

0:08:280:08:30

That better not be more people coming to view the flat.

0:08:300:08:33

Oh, you again. Come to show some more people around, I suppose?

0:08:330:08:37

Fooled you, Ricky. It's me, Gavin.

0:08:370:08:40

I was just pretending to be an estate agent.

0:08:400:08:43

You mean what I think you mean?

0:08:430:08:44

Yeah, the flat's not for sale. Only kidding, mate.

0:08:440:08:47

Just my little joke.

0:08:470:08:49

-HE LAUGHS

-Your face!

0:08:490:08:50

Very funny, Gavin. Now get out, you big practical joker.

0:08:500:08:55

No more from you.

0:08:550:08:56
