Time to get my ninja on. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
And my clothes. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:08
An art ninja has a mastery of time. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
The art ninja cake clock. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
So, I'm going to start with a big sheet of card. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
I'm going to draw a circle on it using two pencils and some string. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:39
Poke a hole, like that, and then just draw around, like that. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
This is a great trick for drawing a circle. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
I'm just going to cut that out. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
There we go. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
I'm going to need two of those, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:51
-so I'll just ninja another one. -Hi-yah! | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
I've cut the centre out of this one | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
so I can put the clock mechanism in later. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:58
I've got a long strip of card here. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
I've made it about 5cm wide and that's just going to decide | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
the height of my cake. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:04
Another trick here to help you stick the strip | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
around the circle is to pre-stick some masking tape | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
on the underside of it, with a bit of it overlapping. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
This means you can roll round the card and, as you go around, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
just fold over the masking tape, stick it in place. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:18
Now, to put the top bit on, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
you can do a similar thing, but round the top. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
Last little bit there. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
That is the main structure of the cake done, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
but it needs to look like a cake, so I'm going to add some sponge. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
So I'm going to cut my sponge into strips with some ninja skills. | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
Hi-yah! | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
There we go. Now I'm going to stick these sponges | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
around the side in two layers with some double-sided sticky tape. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:45
Just start placing them on. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
I'm going to use a bit of extra double-sided sticky tape | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
between the ends of the sponge | 0:01:56 | 0:01:57
to make sure they stick together nicely. | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
Then turn your cake over and repeat this process for the second layer. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
Now, I don't know about you, but I like my cake | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
with a little bit of jam filling and, for that, I'm using some wool. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
So I've chopped up some bits of wool, and to make sure it stays | 0:02:12 | 0:02:16
on the inside, I'm just going to do a line of PVA | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
between the two pieces of sponge for the wool to stick to. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
There we go. Start stuffing that jam in. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
Now, I don't know about you, but I'd like some icing, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
so I've got some pink and some white paint here, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
and I'm going to mix in with it some PVA glue to make it nice and sticky, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
and the PVA also means it dries kind of shiny, just like icing. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
I'm painting right up to the edges | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
and I'm letting little bits dribble over so it looks like icing. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:46
Now I'm going to add some nice white swirls. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
So I've got some slightly thinner paint that I've mixed with PVA. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
I'm going to dribble that on the top in a swirly pattern. | 0:02:51 | 0:02:55
All right, that's enough. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
Now I'm going to add some sprinkles | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
and I'm using some coloured elastic bands. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
I'm going to chop these up with scissors, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
just to get them nice and small. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
There we go. Now I'm going to add some cream. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
And I'm going to do that by soaking some cotton wool in PVA glue | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
and shaping them into dollops. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Now, these lumps of cotton wool | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
are going to be the markers for my hours. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
This first one here is going to be 12 o'clock. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
This one's going to be six o'clock. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
Nine o'clock. Three o'clock. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
And I'm going to fill in the other hours in between, | 0:03:28 | 0:03:31
equal distances apart. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:32
So I've done my main hour markers, | 0:03:32 | 0:03:34
but now I need the minutes and for that | 0:03:34 | 0:03:36
I've used a similar technique as making the dollops of cream, | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
but this time I've mixed the cotton wool and PVA glue with some paint | 0:03:39 | 0:03:42
to make these lovely coloured balls of icing. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:45
Just counting down the final minutes. | 0:03:47 | 0:03:51
It's looking great, but I need to wait for it to dry | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
before I put the mechanism in. No, I won't, cos I'm a ninja! | 0:03:53 | 0:03:57
Hi-yah! | 0:03:57 | 0:03:58
Here we go. | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
Now I need to add the mechanism. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:01
You can buy these from all good craft shops | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
or you can buy them online pretty cheap. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
So, I'm going to attach this to the back of my clock. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:07
I'm going to poke it through the hole | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
that I made right at the beginning. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
I've cut out a spoon and a fork to be my hour and my minute hand, | 0:04:11 | 0:04:16
just out of some silver card. | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
I've got double-sided sticky tape on the back | 0:04:18 | 0:04:20
and I'm going to push them onto the mechanism. | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
That's the hour hand. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:24
Minute hand. | 0:04:24 | 0:04:26
And then the last little bit to hold them in place. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:31
There we go. It looks amazing. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:33
My clock is finished, and it was a piece of cake. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
Time to hang it on the wall. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:38
Now, I've made mine to Mum's special recipe, | 0:04:38 | 0:04:41
but you can try some other ideas. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:43
How about one with some nice patterned icing? | 0:04:43 | 0:04:47
Or...a lovely chocolate gateau? | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
Enough of Ricky's fake Bake Off - it's time to clock off. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:54
Whoa, is this magic? | 0:05:15 | 0:05:17
No, it's just an animation, | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
so let's shed some light on. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:20
If you don't want to be left in the dark, | 0:05:20 | 0:05:22
you will need a light or some big torches, | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
a sheet and somewhere to hang it, | 0:05:24 | 0:05:26
some friends and a tablet with an animation app included. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
And you can put it together in just three ninja moves. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
Ninja move number one. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:33
So, you need to hang your sheet up and back-light it, | 0:05:33 | 0:05:36
then set up your tablet app, ready to shoot. | 0:05:36 | 0:05:39
Now, this animation works better when the lights are off, | 0:05:39 | 0:05:42
even better at night-time. Ninja move number two. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:45
The next thing you need to do is work with your group of mates | 0:05:45 | 0:05:47
to come up with some awesome animation ideas. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
Think about how you can work as a team, | 0:05:50 | 0:05:51
maybe do something that's completely inhuman, | 0:05:51 | 0:05:53
and look around and find some cool props. | 0:05:53 | 0:05:56
Got any ideas, guys? | 0:05:57 | 0:05:59
-Yes. -Tonnes of 'em. -A few. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:00
Ninja move number three. | 0:06:02 | 0:06:05
It's time to start shooting. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:06
Now, we're going to do a really cool trick here | 0:06:06 | 0:06:09
that makes it look like Andre is duplicating. | 0:06:09 | 0:06:11
Because we're shooting onto a sheet, and there's no depth, | 0:06:11 | 0:06:13
we can hide people behind him and have them step out | 0:06:13 | 0:06:16
at the right time. It's like he's copying himself. | 0:06:16 | 0:06:19
Right, let's get on with it. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:21
For each move, take a shot using the animation app on your tablet | 0:06:21 | 0:06:25
and then move the scene along by one small step, and take another shot. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:29
OK. I've sliced and diced the animation. | 0:06:33 | 0:06:35
Hey, guys, I think it's time to take a look at our new masterpiece. | 0:06:35 | 0:06:39
Here we go. | 0:06:41 | 0:06:42
Nice work, guys. | 0:06:51 | 0:06:53
Whoo! | 0:06:53 | 0:06:54 | |
Hey, you there! | 0:06:58 | 0:06:59
Nothing on TV? | 0:07:00 | 0:07:01
Nothing I want to watch. | 0:07:01 | 0:07:03
Can't disguise your distaste for annoying TV personalities? | 0:07:03 | 0:07:07
You could say that. | 0:07:07 | 0:07:09
I just did! | 0:07:09 | 0:07:10
Now you can make a disguise with a straw mouth. | 0:07:10 | 0:07:15
HE SLURPS | 0:07:15 | 0:07:16
Ahh! Tasty! | 0:07:16 | 0:07:18
And here's how you make it. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:21
You'll need a piece of card...and a pen. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:26
Draw yourself a funny mouth. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:30
Colour in the inside of your mouth. | 0:07:33 | 0:07:36
Not that one! | 0:07:37 | 0:07:39
Now add some more colour. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:45
Red. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:46 | |
I'm good at colouring inside the lines. | 0:07:48 | 0:07:52
DIS GUY's annoying. | 0:07:52 | 0:07:53
The DISGUISE is cool, though. | 0:07:53 | 0:07:56
Now cut it out with scissors. | 0:07:56 | 0:07:59
With a pencil and modelling clay, | 0:08:02 | 0:08:05
pierce a hole big enough for a straw. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:07
Now take a straw and poke it through the hole, | 0:08:09 | 0:08:11
with the mouth facing away from you. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:14
You could try many different disguises. | 0:08:17 | 0:08:20
Vampire disguise. | 0:08:20 | 0:08:22
Grr! | 0:08:23 | 0:08:24 | |
Beauty disguise. | 0:08:24 | 0:08:25
HE KISSES | 0:08:25 | 0:08:28
Or... | 0:08:30 | 0:08:31 | |
..haw-hee-haw? | 0:08:33 | 0:08:34
You thought I had a moustache, didn't you? | 0:08:34 | 0:08:37
Disguises! | 0:08:37 | 0:08:39
The disguise straw - no-one need know you're grumpy again. | 0:08:39 | 0:08:43
Ricky, I mean you! | 0:08:43 | 0:08:45
What did you just say? | 0:08:45 | 0:08:47
-Really, I mean you! -Oh. | 0:08:47 | 0:08:50
Now go to the website and get your ninja on. | 0:08:53 | 0:08:56
Art Ninja! | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01 |
