Time to get my ninja on...

and my clothes.

Right, time for some art.

All I need is some paint.

Like that pot of paint, precariously balanced up there,

above Mum's antique Persian rug.

What's the worst that could happen?

-SPLAT!

-Oh, no!

I've got paint on Mum's antique Persian rug!

She's going to go ballistic.

I'm never going to get this out!

What am I going to do?

Time flies and so can you with some zippy animation.

Hey, guys, watch this!

BOING!

WOO-WOO-WOO

BANG!

Dude!

Wow! Is this a new trick of Rich's?

No, it's just an animation.

A floaty one.

No idea how that happened.

Well, usually, in animation, if we want to hold a character in the air,

we'd use some wire that we call rigging.

Then, we'd take a clean plate of the animation set, without the model in,

and we'd paint them out afterwards.

SQUEAKING

But, in this case, we're going to do a little trick.

So, to make this cool friend, floaty animation, you'll need...

a friend...

BOING!

..or some friends.

BOING!

BANG! BANG! BANG!

-Whoa!

-THEY LAUGH

Yeah, and a tablet device with some kind of animation app.

WHOOSH

And you can put it together in just three ninja moves.

Ninja move number one.

The first thing I need to do

is practise getting good at taking a picture at just the right time,

and that's when Rich is at his highest point in his jump.

Hmm, that was a little bit too late. Try again.

Hey, that's better.

About...

there.

That's the good bit, there.

And, also, I'm going to want him to try and keep his hands in the

same place, otherwise he kind of goes like this...

Let's try a couple more, Rich. Go.

Ah, that's perfect.

Ninja move number two.

Time for me to start shooting my animation.

Rich, I think you've got it easy, mate.

Last year, I was, like, facedown on the floor

with him on my back.

Ninja move number three.

We're going to have him fly all over the skate park.

We're going to do some flybys, try some close-ups, some wides...

BOING! BOING! BOING!

..maybe a few following camera angles.

And, the whole time, we're going to try and have some fun.

BOING! BOING! BOING! BOING!

We've shot all our frames of the animation.

So, Rich, you ready to see it?

Well, I think it's time to take a look at our mini masterpiece.

BOING! WHOOSH!

Hey, you, there!

Ever wanted a bit more spring in your step?

How about more wing on your shoe?

For once, this product might actually take off.

Here's how you make it.

Grab some craft foam and a pencil

and draw yourself a lightning bolt.

Cut that out.

And use that lightning bolt...

-RUMBLING AND CRASHING

-..as a template to make another!

Now grab yourself some different coloured card.

With glue,

glue your lightning bolts to it.

Now cut those out and leave a border.

Sparkly.

Now grab some more coloured craft foam

and stick the lightning bolts on top.

Cut them out again, with another border.

Now you'll need a shoe.

Ah!

Use the eyelets to mark where the holes will be.

Grab some modelling clay and use the pencil to poke some holes.

Now lace them onto your shoes.

Great. Now you can do that with your other shoe

or try some different designs, like some...

-WHEE!

-..nice butterfly ones,

-or some bat wings...

-WHEE!

-..or some dragon wings...

-WHEE!

-..or some flames.

-WHEE!

That is some incredible "feet"!

Hang on a minute.

I've had an idea that will catapult this mealtime to fun time.

Let me just quickly consult the old art reference book.

I painted the Mona Lisa.

I also did the Vitruvian Man, who I look a bit like now.

I like to doodle invention.

I was also fond of making catapults.

Here's some of my work now.

Oh!

I'm going to make a fun catapult game,

using some lolly sticks and elastic bands.

And I'm going to fling fake food into my big, bitey mouth, up there,

that I've made from an old cardboard box.

It has a hole cut out for a mouth and I've stuck on googly card eyes.

I'm going to start by taking eight large lolly sticks

and binding them together with some elastic bands.

And just go round it as may times as you can, so it's nice and tight.

And do that the same the other side.

There we are.

Now I'm going to grab another thick lolly stick and a spoon

and I'm going to bind them together as well with another elastic band

to create my, kind of, catapult flingy arm.

Just grabbing another large lolly stick

and I'm going to put it the opposite side of my large block

I've already made, and my spoon flinging arm above that.

Now I'm going to bind these together with elastic bands again,

but I'm going to go around it diagonally.

Once in one direction.

I don't want to do this bit as tightly

as I've done the main block, too many times.

If I do, it won't have enough movement or spring.

And, finally, to get that spring in, with one last elastic band,

I'm going to pinch these two ends together.

There you go. My catapult is done!

Now I need to make some fake food to shoot from it.

So, now I've got a piece of card

and I'm going to draw my fake food onto it.

So, take a nice black pen...

I'm going to draw a mushroom and an onion.

Now I'm going to cut those out.

Now I've got myself some bottle tops

and I'm going to stick my fake food to the top of it

with some double-sided sticky tape.

So, there's my fake food onion and a mushroom projectile.

But I'm going to need more food than this to feed my face,

so let's make some more, ninja style!

Oh, yeah!

Got some salami, nice bit of red onion, my mushroom,

tasty olives and my favourite - some pineapple.

Now it's time to play my catapult game.
