Oh, hello. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
I'm just dusting off the old record player | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
so that Salty and I can have a bit of a singsong. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
It's lovely, isn't it? Eh? | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
It is a bit crackly, but, anyway... | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
here we go. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
MUSIC PLAYS | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Yeah, go on, Salty, you sing along if you want. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Do you know what? | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
This reminds me of a time, years ago, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
when we had this record player on the beach. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
Yes. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48 | |
It all happened when I was a boy, | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
in a twinkly time, long, long ago. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
I used to run down to the beach as often as I could, | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
meeting up with my best friends, Little Ernie | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
and Little Sailor Sue. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
# I'm looking on the bright side... # | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
You're going to do left foot forward, right foot... | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
One day, Little Ernie was trying to teach Little Sailor Sue | 0:02:18 | 0:02:22
and me a dance routine. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
Sue picked up the steps quite quickly, but I kept getting muddled. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:28
I don't get it. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
It's easy - look. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
I tried and tried, but my feet didn't seem to do | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
what I wanted them to. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
So I suggested that we play by the rockpools instead. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:41
So off we ran and, as we settled down and gazed deep | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
into the glittery waters, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
a magical world appeared before our eyes. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
On this particular day in the rockpool, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
everyone was very excited because there was going to be a dance party. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:06
And you can't have a dance party without music. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
So Sheena the Shrimp had set up her musical rock. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:13
Andrew the Anemone was jigging about in the seaweed, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
practising his moves. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
"I'm very excited about the dance. Are you?" | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
he asked his friend, Sally the Starfish. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
But before Sally could answer | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
they had a bit of a shock because | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
out of the thick, seaweedy fronds | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
floated an extremely enchanting creature. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:38
"Hello. I'm Luna, and I am a jellyfish," | 0:03:40 | 0:03:45
she said in a silky voice. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
SALTY WHINES | 0:03:48 | 0:03:49
Yes. It's all right, Salty. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:51
Don't worry. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:52
Yes, I'll explain. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
Salty wants you to know that jellyfish are beautiful creatures, | 0:03:55 | 0:04:01
but they can sometimes sting. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
So if you meet one on your seashore adventures, | 0:04:04 | 0:04:07
it is best not to touch it. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
Right? Yeah. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
"Jellyfish?" cried Sheena. "Don't they sting?" | 0:04:11 | 0:04:15
And, lickety-split quick, they all hid. | 0:04:15 | 0:04:18
"Come back, everybody. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:20
"I promise I won't sting you," said Luna. | 0:04:20 | 0:04:25
So they crept back out. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:26
A little shy at first, but very keen | 0:04:26 | 0:04:29
to meet this interesting visitor. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
Luna the Jellyfish looked like | 0:04:32 | 0:04:35
a magical, floaty umbrella. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:38
"Hello, there. Nice to meet you. | 0:04:38 | 0:04:42
"I must have been washed into your rockpool on the last tide. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
"I'll have to wait here until the next tide comes in. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:49
"I hope you don't mind." | 0:04:49 | 0:04:51
"Oh, no, we don't mind," said Belinda the Blenny. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:56
"We are going to have a dance party. | 0:04:56 | 0:04:59
"You can join us if you like," said Sheena. | 0:04:59 | 0:05:02
"I'd love to," said Luna, | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
gliding this way and that. | 0:05:05 | 0:05:07
"I am a dance teacher, you know. | 0:05:07 | 0:05:10
"My style is very modern and free. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
"I like to feel the pulse and the flow, | 0:05:13 | 0:05:17
"everywhere I go." | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
"You're a lovely mover," said Bertrum the Butterfish. | 0:05:20 | 0:05:24
"Can you teach us to dance the way you do?" | 0:05:24 | 0:05:27
"There's no need to dance my way," said Luna. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:30
"We all have our own way of dancing, | 0:05:30 | 0:05:33
"and that's just as it should be. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:36
"I'll show you what I mean." | 0:05:36 | 0:05:39
Well, the friends spread out on the rockpool's sandy floor. | 0:05:40 | 0:05:45
Buster the Crab made sure | 0:05:45 | 0:05:47
he had enough room to wave his claws about. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:51
"Now, relax, everybody. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:54
"Loosen up. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:55
"Feel the energy flow all around you," said Luna. | 0:05:55 | 0:06:00
"Stretch out those arms | 0:06:01 | 0:06:03
"and be the star that you are," | 0:06:03 | 0:06:05
she told Sally the Starfish. | 0:06:05 | 0:06:08
"Wiggle your nose and wiggle your tail, | 0:06:08 | 0:06:11
"And wiggle in the middle," she told Belinda. | 0:06:11 | 0:06:15
"I like to sway," said Bertrum, grinning. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:18
"Sway, sway, if that's your way," Luna told him. | 0:06:20 | 0:06:25
And, then, she floated over to Sidney the Snail, | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
who was finding it a bit tricky | 0:06:28 | 0:06:31
to move beneath his shell. | 0:06:31 | 0:06:33
"Pretend your shell's as light as a feather," she told him. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:39
Well, Sidney relaxed. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:42
And suddenly, his shell, | 0:06:42 | 0:06:44
it was spinning with ease! | 0:06:44 | 0:06:47
"Wowee! Look at me," he giggled. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:50
Soon, all of the creatures | 0:06:52 | 0:06:54
were having fun dancing. | 0:06:54 | 0:06:56
"You may all rest now," said Luna. | 0:06:59 | 0:07:03
"Thank you," said Belinda. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:06
"Oh, I loved that." | 0:07:06 | 0:07:08
And all the other rockpoolers agreed. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:12
"It's nearly time for our dance party," said Sheena. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:15
"Come with me, Luna, and I'll find you something | 0:07:15 | 0:07:18
"sparkly and shiny to wear." | 0:07:18 | 0:07:20
Well, all the creatures were ready for the dance, | 0:07:20 | 0:07:24
looking very shiny and sparkly in their party outfits. | 0:07:24 | 0:07:28
Andrew was wearing his best sparkly glasses, and a tie to match. | 0:07:28 | 0:07:34
They had all dressed up - all except Luna, that is. | 0:07:34 | 0:07:38
"Didn't you want to wear something shiny, Luna?" Belinda asked. | 0:07:38 | 0:07:43
"Oh, there is no need. | 0:07:43 | 0:07:44
"I can make myself shiny later," she replied, grinning. | 0:07:44 | 0:07:49
"Right. Right, it's time to start," said Sheena, eagerly. | 0:07:49 | 0:07:53
"I'll get the music going." | 0:07:53 | 0:07:55
Some boppy, hobby, shake it, shake it dance music | 0:07:55 | 0:07:59
came bursting out of the musical rock. | 0:07:59 | 0:08:02
"Let's dance!" she cried. | 0:08:02 | 0:08:04
And you never did see | 0:08:05 | 0:08:07
such a mixture of moving tentacles, | 0:08:07 | 0:08:11
fins, tails and shells. | 0:08:11 | 0:08:13
"This is almost perfect!" cried Sheena. | 0:08:13 | 0:08:16
"I just wish we had some pretty party lights." | 0:08:16 | 0:08:20
"I can help," said Luna, | 0:08:20 | 0:08:22
drifting and wafting about in her elegant way. | 0:08:22 | 0:08:27
And then, something amazing happened. | 0:08:27 | 0:08:31
she suddenly started to glow | 0:08:31 | 0:08:34
like a fabulous, floating moon. | 0:08:34 | 0:08:38
And she lit up everything around her. | 0:08:38 | 0:08:41
"I am bioluminescent, you know," she said. | 0:08:41 | 0:08:46
Now, bioluminescent, it's a big word, | 0:08:46 | 0:08:50
but it just means that she can light up and glow. | 0:08:50 | 0:08:55
"See?" said Luna. | 0:08:55 | 0:08:57
"I am very useful to have around | 0:08:57 | 0:09:00
"when you need party lights." | 0:09:00 | 0:09:02
Ha! And everyone laughed. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:05
The rockpoolers loved the way | 0:09:05 | 0:09:07
that Luna could glow. | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
"I like to pulse, I like to flow, | 0:09:09 | 0:09:13
"but most of all, I like to glow," | 0:09:13 | 0:09:16
said Luna over the dance music. | 0:09:16 | 0:09:19
And the rockpool creatures danced and danced together | 0:09:19 | 0:09:24
in their shiny outfits | 0:09:24 | 0:09:26
with their elegant friend. | 0:09:26 | 0:09:28
One more time! | 0:09:28 | 0:09:29
When we looked up from the rockpool, | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
Ernie started to do his fancy soft-shoe shuffle again. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:38
Sue whispered to me... | 0:09:40 | 0:09:41
Don't worry, Jack. You don't have to do Ernie's dance routine. | 0:09:41 | 0:09:45
You can just do your own - that's far better. | 0:09:45 | 0:09:48
Yeah, and I liked that idea. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:50
And before long, we were all dancing freestyle... | 0:09:50 | 0:09:53
Hoo-hoo! | 0:09:53 | 0:09:55
I'm like a jellyfish. | 0:09:55 | 0:09:56
..until the tide started to come in and cover the rockpool, | 0:09:56 | 0:10:01
like a great seaweedy blanket. | 0:10:01 | 0:10:04
Come on, Salty. It's time to sing again, freestyle. | 0:10:08 | 0:10:12
I'll hum, and you bark. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:14
Ready? Here we go. | 0:10:14 | 0:10:16
You got it? | 0:10:21 | 0:10:22
# Somewhere | 0:10:23 | 0:10:26
# beyond the sea | 0:10:26 | 0:10:28
# Somewhere waiting for me... # | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
Come on, wave your paws about. | 0:10:31 | 0:10:33
So come and join us | 0:10:34 | 0:10:36
for some more Rockpool Tales next time. | 0:10:36 | 0:10:39
Goodbye. | 0:10:39 | 0:10:41
# And never again I'll go sailing | 0:10:41 | 0:10:43
# No more sailing | 0:10:46 | 0:10:48
# So long, sailing | 0:10:50 | 0:10:52
# Bye-bye, sailing... # | 0:10:53 | 0:10:56 |
