Come on, Salty. We'll go and see Miss Bowline-Hitch.

0:01:380:01:42

In you go, that's it.

0:01:420:01:43

# Tee-dee-dee... #

0:01:430:01:45

Go on, girl.

0:01:470:01:48

Ernie, it can't stay in here, it needs to be outside.

0:01:480:01:51

-Why did you have it delivered here?

-To keep it safe.

0:01:510:01:54

Why, is there a problem?

0:01:540:01:56

No, it's just... It's a bit heavy, that's all.

0:01:560:01:59

Anybody home?

0:01:590:02:00

Oh, Jack, Salty, come in!

0:02:000:02:03

-Thank you! Hello, Ernie!

-Jack.

0:02:030:02:07

-You're busy?

-Oh! Busy, busy, busy!

0:02:070:02:09

Ernie, back over there.

0:02:090:02:12

I thought you said you wanted it outside!

0:02:120:02:14

-Well, Jack needs somewhere to sit down.

-Right!

0:02:140:02:18

So, what is it, then?

0:02:180:02:20

I'm so glad you asked.

0:02:200:02:22

I'm absolutely thrilled with it.

0:02:220:02:25

-Ernie, can you bring it over here, please?

-D'you...?

0:02:250:02:28

-What?

-Perfect, thank you.

0:02:280:02:30

-Right.

-Hang on. No, no.

0:02:300:02:32

I can see it perfectly well from here.

0:02:320:02:34

Nonsense. Ernie loves this sort of work. Don't you, dear?

0:02:340:02:38

Um... Yeah, anything for you, Miss BH.

0:02:380:02:41

Aah... Oh! Oh!

0:02:410:02:44

You all right, Ernie?

0:02:440:02:46

Aye, I'm fine. Just feeling a bit dizzy, that's all.

0:02:460:02:49

I think I'm going to pop over to the Mermaid for a nice cup of tea...

0:02:490:02:53

if that's OK.

0:02:530:02:55

Oh, and richly deserved.

0:02:550:02:57

-We can sort out the right spot when you get back.

-Yeah, lovely.

0:02:570:03:01

Ha-ha-ha! So, what is under the sheet?

0:03:010:03:04

Glad you asked.

0:03:040:03:07

Ta-ra!

0:03:070:03:09

Ha-ha, it's a sundial!

0:03:090:03:12

Oh, it's the perfect addition to the village

0:03:120:03:15

and it's my job to sort the right spot for it.

0:03:150:03:18

People will be able to tell the time without looking at their watches!

0:03:180:03:22

A shadow falls on the number and that's how you tell what the time is.

0:03:220:03:26

But don't you need sunshine to make the shadow?

0:03:260:03:29

Well, yes, obviously! That's why I'm popping over to Emily

0:03:290:03:33

to see when it's next likely to be sunny.

0:03:330:03:36

Well, Salty and I need to do a bit of work on clocks too.

0:03:360:03:39

Don't we, girl? We've got a ship's clock to repair, see you later.

0:03:390:03:43

Miss Bowline-Hitch. Ahem! Good luck with the sunshine!

0:03:430:03:47

Toodle-oo!

0:03:470:03:48

There she is - the Rainbow!

0:03:560:03:59

What have you got for us today, my dear?!

0:03:590:04:02

Woo-woo!

0:04:020:04:03

He-he! Come on, Salty!

0:04:030:04:06

# Tee-dee, tee-dee! #

0:04:060:04:08

Here we are!

0:04:080:04:10

Come on, to your bed.

0:04:180:04:20

Good girl, Salty. Yeah. Ha-ha-ha!

0:04:200:04:23

You know what?

0:04:230:04:25

This old clock doesn't need the sun to make it work.

0:04:250:04:29

It needs me to fix it.

0:04:290:04:31

Yeah. Oh, well, we'll do it later.

0:04:310:04:34

You know what, Salty?

0:04:340:04:36

That sundial reminds me of the adventure

0:04:360:04:39

we had on that tropical island. Do you remember?

0:04:390:04:42

The one with the palm tree on the beach, ho-ho-ho!

0:04:420:04:45

Once upon a twinkly time,

0:04:450:04:47

the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:470:04:50

waved goodbye to Whitby

0:04:500:04:52

and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:520:04:54

And as we sailed, we sang,

0:04:560:04:58

# Just Salty Dog and me

0:04:580:05:01

# Upon the silvery sea

0:05:010:05:03

# The waves are wavy

0:05:030:05:05

# The sea is blue

0:05:050:05:06

# There's tropical islands

0:05:060:05:08

And beaches too

0:05:080:05:09

# The tropical trees

0:05:090:05:10

# Were waving the breeze

0:05:100:05:12

# For Salty Dog and me. #

0:05:120:05:14

Ha-ha-ha-ha!

0:05:140:05:16

Well, eventually,

0:05:160:05:18

we stopped off at a desert island

0:05:180:05:20

to have a drink of coconut milk.

0:05:200:05:23

But there was something strange about this island.

0:05:230:05:27

It was covered in a large number of holes

0:05:270:05:30

and they'd just been dug.

0:05:300:05:33

Whoever would do that, eh?

0:05:330:05:35

Well, it became very clear when Salty noticed a shovel nearby

0:05:350:05:41

with a pirate hat perched on it.

0:05:410:05:43

It was that rascally pirate, Kitty Cutlass.

0:05:430:05:47

And she stepped out from behind the palm

0:05:470:05:50

brushing the sand off her hands.

0:05:500:05:52

"Ahoy, Jack!" she said.

0:05:520:05:55

"Kitty Cutlass!" I replied.

0:05:550:05:57

"What are you doing?"

0:05:570:05:59

"Digging for treasures," she grinned, with a glint in her eye.

0:05:590:06:03

"Old Seadog's treasure."

0:06:030:06:06

Salty's ears pricked up at the mention of Old Seadog,

0:06:060:06:10

but I had to explain to her that a seadog is not a dog at all.

0:06:100:06:14

It's the name for an old sailor.

0:06:140:06:17

But I don't think she believed me.

0:06:170:06:20

"Look!" said Kitty.

0:06:200:06:22

And she showed us a tattered message

0:06:220:06:25

which she'd found in a bottle.

0:06:250:06:27

It read, "Old Seadog's treasure.

0:06:270:06:30

"On One Tree Island my treasure lies

0:06:300:06:33

"Hidden from the weather and the skies.

0:06:330:06:36

"Buried in the shadow of the single tree."

0:06:360:06:39

Yeah, Kitty was definitely in the right place. One Tree Island.

0:06:390:06:44

And she had been digging in the shadow of the single tree

0:06:440:06:48

all morning, but without success.

0:06:480:06:51

The trouble was, as the sun moved across the sky,

0:06:510:06:55

the shadow of the tree moved too, like a big sundial.

0:06:550:06:59

So Kitty made us an offer.

0:06:590:07:03

"I will share half the treasure if you two shipmates help me dig."

0:07:030:07:09

Well, Salty seemed very keen on Seadog's treasure,

0:07:090:07:12

so we started digging.

0:07:120:07:14

But several hours and many holes later, we had found no treasure.

0:07:140:07:20

I was about to tell Salty that we should call it a day

0:07:200:07:23

when I saw that she was examining a bottle.

0:07:230:07:27

It was Old Seadog's bottle,

0:07:270:07:29

the one that the message had come in.

0:07:290:07:31

Salty had found something inside,

0:07:310:07:34

a small piece of torn paper, and would you believe it?

0:07:340:07:38

In a hurry to grab the message,

0:07:380:07:40

Kitty had ripped the paper

0:07:400:07:42

and left part of the message in the bottle.

0:07:420:07:45

This part of the message read,

0:07:450:07:48

"X marks the spot when the clock strikes three."

0:07:480:07:54

Pop! Of course!

0:07:540:07:56

It was the last line of the poem.

0:07:560:07:59

"Buried in the shadow of the single tree

0:07:590:08:02

"X marks the spot when the clock strikes three!"

0:08:020:08:06

Well, I consulted my pocket watch and...what a bit of luck -

0:08:060:08:10

it was just coming up to three.

0:08:100:08:12

Well, as the watch chimed, the shadow of the tree

0:08:120:08:17

met with a pattern of shells

0:08:170:08:19

on the sand,

0:08:190:08:20

making a perfect cross.

0:08:200:08:22

"X marks the spot!"

0:08:220:08:25

So we started digging

0:08:250:08:26

and, very quickly, we came upon a treasure chest.

0:08:260:08:30

"Old Seadog's treasure!" Kitty exclaimed.

0:08:300:08:34

"I found it at last!"

0:08:340:08:36

What did she mean she'd found it?

0:08:360:08:39

But before I could ask her,

0:08:390:08:41

she'd nabbed the chest and started running down the beach.

0:08:410:08:44

"But you said you'd share the treasure!" I shouted after her.

0:08:440:08:48

Kitty, she just laughed at us.

0:08:480:08:50

She jumped onto her ship, the Hurly-Burly, fired up the engine!

0:08:500:08:54

While we rushed to the Rainbow

0:08:540:08:56

we leapt in and we gave chase.

0:08:560:08:58

But the poor old Rainbow wasn't built for chases.

0:09:010:09:04

She huffed and she puffed

0:09:040:09:07

and she puffed and she puffed...

0:09:070:09:09

And then...bang!

0:09:090:09:11

Once again, the engine broke down.

0:09:110:09:15

Salty let out a howl of dismay as she watched Kitty getting away.

0:09:150:09:20

"Awoooooo!"

0:09:200:09:21

Didn't you? Yeah.

0:09:210:09:24

Well, I think our fishy friends must have heard Salty's howl,

0:09:240:09:28

because, suddenly, behind the boat, up popped Mr and Mrs Cod,

0:09:280:09:33

Charlie Squid and Bluey the Whale.

0:09:330:09:37

"We are ready when you are," called out Mrs Cod.

0:09:370:09:41

"Aren't we, Harold?" "Yes, dear," said Harold.

0:09:410:09:45

And with that, they all gave a mighty heave.

0:09:450:09:49

And the Rainbow reared up and charged off.

0:09:490:09:53

Salty's whiskers whiffled like they'd never whiffled before!

0:09:530:09:57

Up ahead, the Hurly-Burly was getting closer,

0:09:570:10:00

we were catching up, but not fast enough.

0:10:000:10:02

And just then, we heard a flappety flapping above,

0:10:020:10:06

and, out of the clear blue sky,

0:10:060:10:08

appeared our lovely friend Brenda the Stalk.

0:10:080:10:11

"Special delivery!" she called.

0:10:110:10:13

She was holding a large coconut.

0:10:130:10:17

She flew over the Hurly-Burly and, with a perfect shot,

0:10:170:10:21

she dropped the coconut right onto Kitty's funnel.

0:10:210:10:25

"What are you doing?" said Kitty crossly.

0:10:250:10:29

And then, we realised what was going on.

0:10:290:10:33

The steam from the boiler couldn't come out of the funnel

0:10:330:10:37

because of the coconut.

0:10:370:10:39

Instead, the steam started to build up

0:10:390:10:42

and then, a startled Kitty heard a big BANG!

0:10:420:10:46

The boiler had blown up.

0:10:460:10:48

Well, the Hurly-Burly quickly came to a halt

0:10:480:10:51

and we were able to sail alongside.

0:10:510:10:54

"Hold it right there!" I said to Kitty.

0:10:540:10:57

"You said you'd share the treasure."

0:10:570:11:00

Well, she didn't really have any choice now, did she?

0:11:000:11:03

So she sulkily opened the treasure chest

0:11:030:11:07

as we thanked our fishy friends and Brenda for their help.

0:11:070:11:11

And then we all held our breath

0:11:110:11:14

wondering what the treasure would be like.

0:11:140:11:17

Imagine Kitty's surprise

0:11:170:11:20

when she discovered what was inside.

0:11:200:11:23

Dog biscuits!

0:11:230:11:26

"Dog biscuits!" she roared,

0:11:260:11:28

"I did all that digging for this! You're welcome to them!"

0:11:280:11:33

As she chucked the treasure chest high in the air.

0:11:330:11:36

It landed with a thump... Oh!

0:11:360:11:39

..on the deck of the Rainbow.

0:11:390:11:42

Kitty then stomped off below decks

0:11:420:11:45

to fix her broken boiler.

0:11:450:11:46

Well, Salty now had enough treats in that treasure chest

0:11:460:11:50

to last her a year.

0:11:500:11:52

So I guess Salty was right all along.

0:11:520:11:57

Old Seadog was a dog after all.

0:11:570:12:01

Did you like that story, Salty? Yeah?

0:12:100:12:12

All true, of course.

0:12:120:12:14

Mind you, my stories always are. Ha-ha-ha!

0:12:140:12:17

Come on, girl.

0:12:170:12:19

Oh, look, Salty!

0:12:280:12:30

There's Miss Bowline-Hitch.

0:12:300:12:32

Ernie must have delivered the sundial.

0:12:320:12:35

How is the sundial, Miss Bowline-Hitch?!

0:12:350:12:39

It won't work without the sunshine, Jack!

0:12:390:12:42

Well, that's a shame!

0:12:420:12:43

I mean, you and Ernie have put a lot of effort into that thing.

0:12:430:12:48

I do wish that sun would shine!

0:12:500:12:53

HE SNORES

0:12:550:12:58

Oh!

0:13:030:13:04

Oh, the weather's changed!

0:13:060:13:09

The sun's come out!

0:13:090:13:12

The sun is shining on the sundial!

0:13:120:13:14

It's pointing at three!

0:13:140:13:16

It's three o'clock!

0:13:160:13:18

You know what, then, Miss, don't you?

0:13:180:13:21

My sundial's a success!

0:13:210:13:23

No, no, no! It means it's time for tea and cakes at the Mermaid!

0:13:230:13:28

All right! I'll see you there! Just you and me!

0:13:280:13:31

See you there! Ooh!
