Ernie, it can't stay in here, it needs to be outside. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
-Why did you have it delivered here? -To keep it safe. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
Why, is there a problem? | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
No, it's just... It's a bit heavy, that's all. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
Anybody home? | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
Oh, Jack, Salty, come in! | 0:02:00 | 0:02:03
-Thank you! Hello, Ernie! -Jack. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:07
-You're busy? -Oh! Busy, busy, busy! | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
Ernie, back over there. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
I thought you said you wanted it outside! | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
-Well, Jack needs somewhere to sit down. -Right! | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
So, what is it, then? | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
I'm so glad you asked. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
I'm absolutely thrilled with it. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
-Ernie, can you bring it over here, please? -D'you...? | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
-What? -Perfect, thank you. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
-Right. -Hang on. No, no. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
I can see it perfectly well from here. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
Nonsense. Ernie loves this sort of work. Don't you, dear? | 0:02:34 | 0:02:38
Um... Yeah, anything for you, Miss BH. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
Aah... Oh! Oh! | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
You all right, Ernie? | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
Aye, I'm fine. Just feeling a bit dizzy, that's all. | 0:02:46 | 0:02:49
I think I'm going to pop over to the Mermaid for a nice cup of tea... | 0:02:49 | 0:02:53
if that's OK. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
Oh, and richly deserved. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
-We can sort out the right spot when you get back. -Yeah, lovely. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
Ha-ha-ha! So, what is under the sheet? | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
Glad you asked. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
Ta-ra! | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
Ha-ha, it's a sundial! | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
Oh, it's the perfect addition to the village | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
and it's my job to sort the right spot for it. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
People will be able to tell the time without looking at their watches! | 0:03:18 | 0:03:22
A shadow falls on the number and that's how you tell what the time is. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
But don't you need sunshine to make the shadow? | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
Well, yes, obviously! That's why I'm popping over to Emily | 0:03:29 | 0:03:33
to see when it's next likely to be sunny. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
Well, Salty and I need to do a bit of work on clocks too. | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
Don't we, girl? We've got a ship's clock to repair, see you later. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:43
Miss Bowline-Hitch. Ahem! Good luck with the sunshine! | 0:03:43 | 0:03:47
Toodle-oo! | 0:03:47 | 0:03:48
There she is - the Rainbow! | 0:03:56 | 0:03:59
What have you got for us today, my dear?! | 0:03:59 | 0:04:02
Woo-woo! | 0:04:02 | 0:04:03
He-he! Come on, Salty! | 0:04:03 | 0:04:06
# Tee-dee, tee-dee! # | 0:04:06 | 0:04:08
Here we are! | 0:04:08 | 0:04:10
Come on, to your bed. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:20
Good girl, Salty. Yeah. Ha-ha-ha! | 0:04:20 | 0:04:23
You know what? | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
This old clock doesn't need the sun to make it work. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:29
It needs me to fix it. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:31
Yeah. Oh, well, we'll do it later. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
You know what, Salty? | 0:04:34 | 0:04:36
That sundial reminds me of the adventure | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
we had on that tropical island. Do you remember? | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
The one with the palm tree on the beach, ho-ho-ho! | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
Once upon a twinkly time, | 0:04:45 | 0:04:47
the Rainbow set off from Staithes, | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
waved goodbye to Whitby | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
and disappeared over the horizon. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54
And as we sailed, we sang, | 0:04:56 | 0:04:58
# Just Salty Dog and me | 0:04:58 | 0:05:01
# Upon the silvery sea | 0:05:01 | 0:05:03
# The waves are wavy | 0:05:03 | 0:05:05
# The sea is blue | 0:05:05 | 0:05:06
# There's tropical islands | 0:05:06 | 0:05:08
And beaches too | 0:05:08 | 0:05:09
# The tropical trees | 0:05:09 | 0:05:10
# Were waving the breeze | 0:05:10 | 0:05:12
# For Salty Dog and me. # | 0:05:12 | 0:05:14
Ha-ha-ha-ha! | 0:05:14 | 0:05:16
Well, eventually, | 0:05:16 | 0:05:18
we stopped off at a desert island | 0:05:18 | 0:05:20
to have a drink of coconut milk. | 0:05:20 | 0:05:23
But there was something strange about this island. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:27
It was covered in a large number of holes | 0:05:27 | 0:05:30
and they'd just been dug. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:33
Whoever would do that, eh? | 0:05:33 | 0:05:35
Well, it became very clear when Salty noticed a shovel nearby | 0:05:35 | 0:05:41
with a pirate hat perched on it. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:43
It was that rascally pirate, Kitty Cutlass. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:47
And she stepped out from behind the palm | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
brushing the sand off her hands. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:52
"Ahoy, Jack!" she said. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:55
"Kitty Cutlass!" I replied. | 0:05:55 | 0:05:57
"What are you doing?" | 0:05:57 | 0:05:59
"Digging for treasures," she grinned, with a glint in her eye. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:03
"Old Seadog's treasure." | 0:06:03 | 0:06:06
Salty's ears pricked up at the mention of Old Seadog, | 0:06:06 | 0:06:10
but I had to explain to her that a seadog is not a dog at all. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:14
It's the name for an old sailor. | 0:06:14 | 0:06:17
But I don't think she believed me. | 0:06:17 | 0:06:20
"Look!" said Kitty. | 0:06:20 | 0:06:22
And she showed us a tattered message | 0:06:22 | 0:06:25
which she'd found in a bottle. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:27
It read, "Old Seadog's treasure. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
"On One Tree Island my treasure lies | 0:06:30 | 0:06:33
"Hidden from the weather and the skies. | 0:06:33 | 0:06:36
"Buried in the shadow of the single tree." | 0:06:36 | 0:06:39
Yeah, Kitty was definitely in the right place. One Tree Island. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:44
And she had been digging in the shadow of the single tree | 0:06:44 | 0:06:48
all morning, but without success. | 0:06:48 | 0:06:51
The trouble was, as the sun moved across the sky, | 0:06:51 | 0:06:55
the shadow of the tree moved too, like a big sundial. | 0:06:55 | 0:06:59
So Kitty made us an offer. | 0:06:59 | 0:07:03
"I will share half the treasure if you two shipmates help me dig." | 0:07:03 | 0:07:09
Well, Salty seemed very keen on Seadog's treasure, | 0:07:09 | 0:07:12
so we started digging. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:14
But several hours and many holes later, we had found no treasure. | 0:07:14 | 0:07:20
I was about to tell Salty that we should call it a day | 0:07:20 | 0:07:23
when I saw that she was examining a bottle. | 0:07:23 | 0:07:27
It was Old Seadog's bottle, | 0:07:27 | 0:07:29
the one that the message had come in. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:31
Salty had found something inside, | 0:07:31 | 0:07:34
a small piece of torn paper, and would you believe it? | 0:07:34 | 0:07:38
In a hurry to grab the message, | 0:07:38 | 0:07:40
Kitty had ripped the paper | 0:07:40 | 0:07:42
and left part of the message in the bottle. | 0:07:42 | 0:07:45
This part of the message read, | 0:07:45 | 0:07:48
"X marks the spot when the clock strikes three." | 0:07:48 | 0:07:54
Pop! Of course! | 0:07:54 | 0:07:56
It was the last line of the poem. | 0:07:56 | 0:07:59
"Buried in the shadow of the single tree | 0:07:59 | 0:08:02
"X marks the spot when the clock strikes three!" | 0:08:02 | 0:08:06
Well, I consulted my pocket watch and...what a bit of luck - | 0:08:06 | 0:08:10
it was just coming up to three. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:12
Well, as the watch chimed, the shadow of the tree | 0:08:12 | 0:08:17
met with a pattern of shells | 0:08:17 | 0:08:19
on the sand, | 0:08:19 | 0:08:20
making a perfect cross. | 0:08:20 | 0:08:22
"X marks the spot!" | 0:08:22 | 0:08:25
So we started digging | 0:08:25 | 0:08:26
and, very quickly, we came upon a treasure chest. | 0:08:26 | 0:08:30
"Old Seadog's treasure!" Kitty exclaimed. | 0:08:30 | 0:08:34
"I found it at last!" | 0:08:34 | 0:08:36
What did she mean she'd found it? | 0:08:36 | 0:08:39
But before I could ask her, | 0:08:39 | 0:08:41
she'd nabbed the chest and started running down the beach. | 0:08:41 | 0:08:44
"But you said you'd share the treasure!" I shouted after her. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:48
Kitty, she just laughed at us. | 0:08:48 | 0:08:50
She jumped onto her ship, the Hurly-Burly, fired up the engine! | 0:08:50 | 0:08:54
While we rushed to the Rainbow | 0:08:54 | 0:08:56
we leapt in and we gave chase. | 0:08:56 | 0:08:58
But the poor old Rainbow wasn't built for chases. | 0:09:01 | 0:09:04
She huffed and she puffed | 0:09:04 | 0:09:07
and she puffed and she puffed... | 0:09:07 | 0:09:09
And then...bang! | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
Once again, the engine broke down. | 0:09:11 | 0:09:15
Salty let out a howl of dismay as she watched Kitty getting away. | 0:09:15 | 0:09:20
"Awoooooo!" | 0:09:20 | 0:09:21
Didn't you? Yeah. | 0:09:21 | 0:09:24
Well, I think our fishy friends must have heard Salty's howl, | 0:09:24 | 0:09:28
because, suddenly, behind the boat, up popped Mr and Mrs Cod, | 0:09:28 | 0:09:33
Charlie Squid and Bluey the Whale. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:37
"We are ready when you are," called out Mrs Cod. | 0:09:37 | 0:09:41
"Aren't we, Harold?" "Yes, dear," said Harold. | 0:09:41 | 0:09:45
And with that, they all gave a mighty heave. | 0:09:45 | 0:09:49
And the Rainbow reared up and charged off. | 0:09:49 | 0:09:53
Salty's whiskers whiffled like they'd never whiffled before! | 0:09:53 | 0:09:57
Up ahead, the Hurly-Burly was getting closer, | 0:09:57 | 0:10:00
we were catching up, but not fast enough. | 0:10:00 | 0:10:02
And just then, we heard a flappety flapping above, | 0:10:02 | 0:10:06
and, out of the clear blue sky, | 0:10:06 | 0:10:08
appeared our lovely friend Brenda the Stalk. | 0:10:08 | 0:10:11
"Special delivery!" she called. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:13
She was holding a large coconut. | 0:10:13 | 0:10:17
She flew over the Hurly-Burly and, with a perfect shot, | 0:10:17 | 0:10:21
she dropped the coconut right onto Kitty's funnel. | 0:10:21 | 0:10:25
"What are you doing?" said Kitty crossly. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:29
And then, we realised what was going on. | 0:10:29 | 0:10:33
The steam from the boiler couldn't come out of the funnel | 0:10:33 | 0:10:37
because of the coconut. | 0:10:37 | 0:10:39
Instead, the steam started to build up | 0:10:39 | 0:10:42
and then, a startled Kitty heard a big BANG! | 0:10:42 | 0:10:46
The boiler had blown up. | 0:10:46 | 0:10:48
Well, the Hurly-Burly quickly came to a halt | 0:10:48 | 0:10:51
and we were able to sail alongside. | 0:10:51 | 0:10:54
"Hold it right there!" I said to Kitty. | 0:10:54 | 0:10:57
"You said you'd share the treasure." | 0:10:57 | 0:11:00
Well, she didn't really have any choice now, did she? | 0:11:00 | 0:11:03
So she sulkily opened the treasure chest | 0:11:03 | 0:11:07
as we thanked our fishy friends and Brenda for their help. | 0:11:07 | 0:11:11
And then we all held our breath | 0:11:11 | 0:11:14
wondering what the treasure would be like. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:17
Imagine Kitty's surprise | 0:11:17 | 0:11:20
when she discovered what was inside. | 0:11:20 | 0:11:23
Dog biscuits! | 0:11:23 | 0:11:26
"Dog biscuits!" she roared, | 0:11:26 | 0:11:28
"I did all that digging for this! You're welcome to them!" | 0:11:28 | 0:11:33
As she chucked the treasure chest high in the air. | 0:11:33 | 0:11:36
It landed with a thump... Oh! | 0:11:36 | 0:11:39
..on the deck of the Rainbow. | 0:11:39 | 0:11:42
Kitty then stomped off below decks | 0:11:42 | 0:11:45
to fix her broken boiler. | 0:11:45 | 0:11:46
Well, Salty now had enough treats in that treasure chest | 0:11:46 | 0:11:50
to last her a year. | 0:11:50 | 0:11:52
So I guess Salty was right all along. | 0:11:52 | 0:11:57
Old Seadog was a dog after all. | 0:11:57 | 0:12:01
Did you like that story, Salty? Yeah? | 0:12:10 | 0:12:12
All true, of course. | 0:12:12 | 0:12:14
Mind you, my stories always are. Ha-ha-ha! | 0:12:14 | 0:12:17
Come on, girl. | 0:12:17 | 0:12:19
Oh, look, Salty! | 0:12:28 | 0:12:30
There's Miss Bowline-Hitch. | 0:12:30 | 0:12:32
Ernie must have delivered the sundial. | 0:12:32 | 0:12:35
How is the sundial, Miss Bowline-Hitch?! | 0:12:35 | 0:12:39
It won't work without the sunshine, Jack! | 0:12:39 | 0:12:42
Well, that's a shame! | 0:12:42 | 0:12:43
I mean, you and Ernie have put a lot of effort into that thing. | 0:12:43 | 0:12:48
I do wish that sun would shine! | 0:12:50 | 0:12:53
HE SNORES | 0:12:55 | 0:12:58
Oh! | 0:13:03 | 0:13:04 | |
Oh, the weather's changed! | 0:13:06 | 0:13:09
The sun's come out! | 0:13:09 | 0:13:12
The sun is shining on the sundial! | 0:13:12 | 0:13:14
It's pointing at three! | 0:13:14 | 0:13:16
It's three o'clock! | 0:13:16 | 0:13:18
You know what, then, Miss, don't you? | 0:13:18 | 0:13:21
My sundial's a success! | 0:13:21 | 0:13:23
No, no, no! It means it's time for tea and cakes at the Mermaid! | 0:13:23 | 0:13:28
All right! I'll see you there! Just you and me! | 0:13:28 | 0:13:31
See you there! Ooh! | 0:13:31 | 0:13:34
