-Good morning, Miss Bowline-Hitch, you seem to be busy-busy!

-Oh, yes!

0:01:430:01:48

I'm returning things I borrowed. I've just given Shelly her apron back!

0:01:480:01:53

And this handy little screwdriver belongs to...

0:01:530:01:57

-Sam, cos she's the fixer around here.

-Exactly!

0:01:570:02:01

And this lovely umbrella that Emily kindly leant me,

0:02:010:02:05

-and this bottle opener in the shape of a fish?

-That'll be Ernie's.

0:02:050:02:10

Indeed. Now, I'm sure I had something of yours, Jack.

0:02:100:02:13

-What did I do with it?

-Don't worry.

-It doesn't seem to be here.

0:02:130:02:17

We're just over to the Rainbow to polish the brasses.

0:02:170:02:20

-Come over later, if you want.

-Good idea. I'm sure it'll turn up!

0:02:200:02:25

0:02:400:02:43

Oh, too late! Hello, you two.

0:02:430:02:46

-What's the problem?

-Miss Bowline-Hitch left her purse.

0:02:460:02:50

-I thought I might catch her. But she's off being...

-BOTH: Busy-busy!

0:02:500:02:54

I'll be seeing her later. Shall I pass it on to her?

0:02:540:02:57

Would you, Jack? Brilliant! I've got to get back to work!

0:02:570:03:00

-Busy-busy!

-Miss Bowline-Hitch, you left this... Oh!

0:03:020:03:07

Oh, never mind, we'll catch up with her later.

0:03:070:03:11

Onwards, Salty, on to the Rainbow. Oh!

0:03:110:03:14

There she is, the Rainbow! What have you got for us today, me dear?

0:03:240:03:29

-BOAT BLOWS HORN

-Hey-hey! Come on, Salty!

0:03:290:03:34

Here we are.

0:03:360:03:38

There you go, Salty. Don't distract me. Into bed.

0:03:460:03:50

Now, I'd better put this little purse somewhere safe. Let me see.

0:03:500:03:58

Yes, that'll do in there.

0:03:580:04:02

Do you know what?

0:04:020:04:05

I seem to remember that our favourite mermaid, Pearl,

0:04:050:04:11

she lost something once that was very, very precious. Yes.

0:04:110:04:16

Let me get comfortable and I'll tell you the story.

0:04:160:04:20

Ah, yes, Salty, this'll make your ears prick up, all right.

0:04:200:04:25

Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes,

0:04:250:04:29

waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon.

0:04:290:04:34

It was one of those glorious fine weather days

0:04:340:04:38

when even the waves seem lazy.

0:04:380:04:40

The Rainbow was gently bobbing along

0:04:400:04:44

and Salty and I were having a sing-song.

0:04:440:04:47

# Just Salty Dog and me, upon the briny sea

0:04:470:04:51

# It's one of those wonderful hazy days,

0:04:510:04:54

# For bobbing along on the lazy waves

0:04:540:04:57

# The sun is a-beaming, we're busy daydreaming,

0:04:570:05:00

# Just Salty Dog and me. #

0:05:000:05:03

Salty, she likes a good sing-song, you know! Don't you, Salty!

0:05:030:05:08

Anyway, there she was lying on her back, jiggling her legs

0:05:080:05:13

and sunning her belly, when suddenly, her nose twitched.

0:05:130:05:19

"Pearl's coming!" she woofed!

0:05:190:05:21

Well, we listened for our favourite mermaid's song,

0:05:210:05:26

but we couldn't hear it. And then, I spotted her at the stern.

0:05:260:05:32

"Pearl," I called out, "Good to see you!

0:05:320:05:35

"Not in the mood for singing today?"

0:05:350:05:39

Pearl mouthed some words but no sounds came out.

0:05:390:05:43

"I think our little mermaid friend has lost her voice," I said.

0:05:430:05:49

"And she's such a lovely singer too," said Salty.

0:05:490:05:53

She put her paws over her head to show how sad she was.

0:05:530:05:58

Poor Pearl, she looked quite upset.

0:05:580:06:03

She was supposed to be singing at the Sea King's party later that day.

0:06:030:06:08

The Sea King was sure to be disappointed.

0:06:080:06:12

"You can't help it if you've lost your voice, my girl," I told her.

0:06:120:06:18

Then, I had an idea. "I know.

0:06:180:06:20

"Why don't Salty and I help you find another singer?"

0:06:200:06:25

A big smile spread across Pearl's pretty face.

0:06:250:06:31

She liked the plan very much, so, before you could say,

0:06:310:06:35

"Scuttling spider crabs", we were under the sea.

0:06:350:06:40

Off we went to find a singer to sing for the Sea King!

0:06:400:06:45

"A swim, swim, swim.

0:06:450:06:50

"Who'd like to sing a song for the Sea King?" we chanted.

0:06:500:06:54

Suddenly, we met Buster the crab. Oh, oh-oh!

0:06:540:06:59

With eyes on stalks and a sideways walk. "Can you sing?" we asked him.

0:06:590:07:06

"No," said Buster, "but I can clack!"

0:07:060:07:09

He showed off his unusual dance,

0:07:090:07:11

opening his claws and snapping them shut.

0:07:110:07:14

"Your clacking is smashing!" I said, "but we are looking for someone

0:07:140:07:21

"to sing for the Sea King." So, we swam on and the crab swam with us.

0:07:210:07:27

"A swim, a swim, a swim.

0:07:270:07:31

"Who'd like to sing a song for the Sea King?" we chanted.

0:07:310:07:35

Then we came to a sandy lagoon where we met Percy the pipefish.

0:07:350:07:41

"Can you sing?" Salty asked him.

0:07:410:07:44

"No," the pipefish piped, "but I can pipe!" And he showed us.

0:07:440:07:48

HE PIPES A TUNE

0:07:480:07:50

"I find your piping to my liking," I said,

0:07:500:07:53

"but we're looking for someone to sing for the Sea King."

0:07:530:07:59

So, we swam on. Percy the pipefish and Buster the crab swam with us.

0:07:590:08:06

"A swim, swim, swim, a swim, swim, swim.

0:08:060:08:10

"Who'd like to sing a song for the Sea King?" we chanted.

0:08:100:08:14

Before too long, we met a floaty, bloaty pufferfish called Nicola.

0:08:140:08:20

"Can you sing?" I asked her. "Sing? Oh, no, sir, no.

0:08:200:08:26

"But I can make a sound that's low," said Nicola.

0:08:260:08:31

And she puffed herself out like a fishy balloon

0:08:310:08:35

and she cleared her throat, "Ahem!"

0:08:350:08:39

And she let out a low, slow, rippling sound.

0:08:390:08:44

BUBBLY GURGLES

0:08:440:08:46

"I like your sound, I really do, and I'm sure a king

0:08:460:08:50

"would like it too, but it isn't really singing, is it?" I said.

0:08:500:08:55

So, we swam on. And Nicola the pufferfish, Percy the pipefish

0:08:550:09:00

and Buster the crab swam with us.

0:09:000:09:03

By the time we reached the sunken galleon, a shoal of little fish

0:09:030:09:09

all shimmering and silverish, they joined us too.

0:09:090:09:14

The Sea King sat on his throne, drinking a seaweed smoothie.

0:09:140:09:19

And all his sea creatures were gathered around him.

0:09:190:09:24

"Ah, Pearl, you've come just in time!"

0:09:240:09:27

He said, "We're all looking forward to your song."

0:09:270:09:32

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, but Pearl can't sing." I said,

0:09:320:09:36

"she's lost her voice."

0:09:360:09:39

"I'm sorry to hear that," said the Sea King.

0:09:390:09:43

"Is there anyone else who could sing for me?" he asked.

0:09:430:09:49

Everyone went very quiet, then Salty put her head on one side,

0:09:490:09:55

"Why don't we sing?" she said.

0:09:550:09:58

"I think we sound very good as long as you don't drown me out."

0:09:580:10:05

And so, we sang and all our friends joined in.

0:10:050:10:09

# Just Salty Dog and me, upon the briny sea

0:10:090:10:14

# It's one of those wonderful hazy days

0:10:140:10:16

# For bobbing along on the lazy waves

0:10:160:10:19

# The sun is a-beaming, we're busy daydreaming

0:10:190:10:23

# Just Salty Dog and me. # Haha!

0:10:230:10:26

Pearl thought it was so lovely

0:10:260:10:29

that a little tear of joy trickled down her face

0:10:290:10:33

and she opened her mermaid's purse to get her hanky out

0:10:330:10:38

and out came her lost voice.

0:10:380:10:41

"Silly me! I forgot I put it in my purse!" she giggled.

0:10:410:10:46

And she joined in with the singing as well.

0:10:460:10:50

When the song ended, all the sea creatures cheered.

0:10:500:10:54

"Hooray! That was splendid!" said the Sea King, clapping his hands.

0:10:540:11:00

"I'm so glad that you've found your voice, Pearl."

0:11:000:11:04

"So am I," said Pearl, giggling.

0:11:040:11:07

"You must bring your friends to see me again!" said the Sea King,

0:11:070:11:12

and then, he shook my hand and he shook Salty's paw.

0:11:120:11:16

"Splendid," the Sea King muttered, "quite remarkable.

0:11:160:11:21

"I'm afraid I don't have party bags, but please take these little

0:11:210:11:26

"thank-you gifts," said the Sea King, smiling.

0:11:260:11:30

Well, we said our goodbyes and before you could say,

0:11:300:11:34

"gabbling guillemots" we were back on the deck of the Rainbow,

0:11:340:11:38

admiring our lovely gifts.

0:11:380:11:40

There was a shiny stone for Salty, a lucky anchor charm for me

0:11:400:11:46

and a lovely spiral shell for Pearl that whispered the song of the sea.

0:11:460:11:53

Yeah, lovely. Hehehe...

0:11:530:11:55

You like that story, Salty? It's all true.

0:12:030:12:07

Mind you, my stories always are!

0:12:070:12:10

Come on.

0:12:150:12:17

Go on, get up. Hahaha!

0:12:270:12:30

Oh! I'm glad I caught you.

0:12:310:12:33

Miss Bowline-Hitch, yes! Shelly gave me something to give to you.

0:12:330:12:40

I've given back everything to everyone else,

0:12:400:12:43

but I'm afraid I owe you an apology, because I know I've got something

0:12:430:12:47

-of yours, but I just can't seem to find it.

-Not to worry. It'll turn up.

0:12:470:12:51

Shelly asked me to give you this.

0:12:510:12:54

-You left it in the cafe.

-That's the very thing

0:12:540:12:57

I was going to give back to you. Isn't that funny!

0:12:570:13:00

-But it's not mine.

-But look inside!

0:13:000:13:04

Oh! Look!

0:13:040:13:06

It's my lucky anchor charm!

0:13:060:13:09

I'd forgotten that I'd leant it to you. You are a treasure!

0:13:090:13:15

Oh, lucky charm, indeed! You've got enough charm for everyone!

0:13:150:13:21

MOBILE RINGS Oh! Busy-busy!

0:13:210:13:24

-Oh, dear.

-See you later, Jack. Bye.

-Bye!

-Goodbye to you too, Salty.

0:13:240:13:28

Come on, girl, I bet you're a bit peckish by now! I know I am.

0:13:280:13:33

Come on, we'll have a sausage.
