Dear, oh, dear! What shocking weather we're having. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:47
I know. I mean, who'd be out on a day like this? | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
-Hiya, Jack! -All right, Ernie? | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
-That looks heavy. -Aye, it is! | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
That's it, Ernie. Keep going. Busy, busy! | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
Is he doing a job for you? | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
Yes. There's some holiday guests moving in today | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
and I said I'd transport their luggage. Ah. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:10
The problem? | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
-I'm afraid so. He's taking the luggage to the wrong house. -Oh. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:17
Ernie! | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
Other way. Number 6! | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
Yes, you're lucky to have him around. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
Oh, he's a real star, and he always has a smile on his face. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
Well done, Ernie! Number 6. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
-Yeah, you know, somebody should give him a medal. -Absolutely. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
He does a sterling job! | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
Next time I see him, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
I shall make a point of giving him a thank-you gift. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
< The door's locked! | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
-At number 6? -Oh, hang on. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
It's number 9. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
Ah. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55 | |
Ernie, a word. Bring the luggage. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:59
-Yes? -Little mistake, Ernie. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
It's not house number 6. It's house number 9. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:09
-That way? -Yes, that way. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
This is actually very heavy! | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
Oh, I'm sorry, Ernie. You must think me so rude. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:21
Let me carry something. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:25
Busy, busy! | 0:03:25 | 0:03:27
-She means well. -Yeah. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30
Like I said, he deserves a medal for the work he does round here. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:34
Doesn't he, eh? Come on, girl. Off to the Rainbow. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:37
We've got portholes to fix. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:39
There we are. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:40
Oh, dear. Poor old Ernie. | 0:03:40 | 0:03:43
We've got to fix this porthole, haven't we? | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
Well, that spanner's too big, isn't it? | 0:03:53 | 0:03:57
Look at that, Salty! Look what I've found. | 0:03:57 | 0:04:00
It's your rosette. Second prize for biscuit catching. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:04
Let's see if you've still got it. Oi! | 0:04:04 | 0:04:07
WHISTLES | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
What about this? Eh, eh, eh? | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
Oh, good girl! | 0:04:11 | 0:04:13
She always catches her biscuit. Well, nearly always. | 0:04:13 | 0:04:17
Go on, in your bed. | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
Yes, there was a time you didn't catch it. | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
Do you remember? | 0:04:22 | 0:04:23
Well, let me get comfortable | 0:04:23 | 0:04:26
and I'll tell you a tale | 0:04:26 | 0:04:28
that'll whiffle those whiskers, Salty. | 0:04:28 | 0:04:32
Once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes, | 0:04:32 | 0:04:36
waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared over the horizon, | 0:04:36 | 0:04:40
and as we sailed, we sang. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:43
# Just Salty Dog and me | 0:04:43 | 0:04:46
# Upon the silvery sea | 0:04:46 | 0:04:48
# The waves are wavy, the sky is blue | 0:04:48 | 0:04:51
# The sun on the water is twinkly too | 0:04:51 | 0:04:54
# With the wind on our backs, we'll soon need a snack | 0:04:54 | 0:04:58
# Just Salty Dog and me # | 0:04:58 | 0:05:01
Well, Salty had been a good dog, so I gave her a special dog biscuit. | 0:05:01 | 0:05:06
Yes, I did. "Enjoy, Salty," I said. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:09
"This is the last one." | 0:05:09 | 0:05:11
I threw her the treat, but for once, | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
Salty missed it and it flew overboard, | 0:05:14 | 0:05:16
landing with a splash in the water. | 0:05:16 | 0:05:18
Well, Salty was very upset. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:21
She said, "Perhaps we should have gone on | 0:05:21 | 0:05:23
"the guided tour of the dog biscuit factory | 0:05:23 | 0:05:26
"instead of coming out on the boat." | 0:05:26 | 0:05:29
"Hold on a second," I said, looking over the side. | 0:05:29 | 0:05:33
"There it is!" Salty's biscuit was floating alongside. | 0:05:33 | 0:05:38
"I'm a fisherman - I'll fish for the biscuit," I thought. | 0:05:38 | 0:05:42
"A big strong fisherman like me | 0:05:42 | 0:05:44
"could catch a little floating biscuit. Easy." | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
So I found my extra-special net, | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
leant over the edge of the boat, | 0:05:50 | 0:05:52
and after a lot of scooping, I finally caught it. | 0:05:52 | 0:05:57
But when I examined the net, I hadn't caught the biscuit. | 0:05:57 | 0:06:01
I'd caught a tiny crab. | 0:06:01 | 0:06:04
"I'm so sorry," I said. "I thought you were a biscuit." | 0:06:04 | 0:06:10
"Charming," said the crab. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:13
Well, I explained what had happened, | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
and she offered to help us recover the biscuit. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:19
"That's very kind of you," I said. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:21
"But I think you are far too small to help us save that biscuit | 0:06:21 | 0:06:25
"from the vast sea." | 0:06:25 | 0:06:27
I must admit, the crab looked a little disappointed. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:32
It shuffled sideways and perched on the Rainbow's rail to watch. | 0:06:32 | 0:06:36
I looked over the side and there was the biscuit, still bobbing away, | 0:06:36 | 0:06:41
and at that very moment, | 0:06:41 | 0:06:43
our friend Charlie the squid popped up. | 0:06:43 | 0:06:46
"Good day to you, Jack and Salty!" he said. | 0:06:46 | 0:06:49
"Is that a delicious dog biscuit?" | 0:06:49 | 0:06:52
"Indeed," I said. | 0:06:52 | 0:06:54
"Could you pick it up with your tickly tentacles?" | 0:06:54 | 0:06:57
Well, the big squid looked at the little biscuit. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:00
"Easy for me!" he said. | 0:07:00 | 0:07:03
He stretched out two long tentacles | 0:07:03 | 0:07:06
and gracefully curled them around the little biscuit, | 0:07:06 | 0:07:09
then gently lifted it out of the water. | 0:07:09 | 0:07:13
And we watched with bated breath, | 0:07:13 | 0:07:15
and the biscuit slipped through his grasp. | 0:07:15 | 0:07:19
Pop! | 0:07:19 | 0:07:21 | |
The biscuit plopped back into the sea with a splash. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:25
"Don't worry," I said. "You've done your best. | 0:07:25 | 0:07:28
"Come up here, have a break." | 0:07:28 | 0:07:30
So Charlie wriggled aboard the Rainbow | 0:07:30 | 0:07:33
and gave Salty a friendly tickle. | 0:07:33 | 0:07:36
And then suddenly, | 0:07:37 | 0:07:39
there was an enormous spout of water beside the boat. | 0:07:39 | 0:07:42
Our friend Bluey the blue whale popped up. He was very excited. | 0:07:44 | 0:07:48
"Can I carry it to you on my big back? | 0:07:48 | 0:07:50
"It'll be easy-peasy squirty squeezy!" | 0:07:50 | 0:07:54
He dived underwater, swam under the biscuit | 0:07:54 | 0:07:56
and then rose to the surface | 0:07:56 | 0:07:58
with the biscuit carefully balanced on his back. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:03
Look at that! | 0:08:03 | 0:08:04
"Bless my barnacles, he's done it!" I whispered to Salty. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:09
Well, Bluey carefully ferried the tiny biscuit towards us, | 0:08:09 | 0:08:14
but just as he was close to the boat, | 0:08:14 | 0:08:18
he blew out a sigh of relief, and... | 0:08:18 | 0:08:22
Pssshhhhh! | 0:08:22 | 0:08:24
His waterspout sent the biscuit flying into the air. | 0:08:24 | 0:08:27
The biscuit zoomed off like a rocket and disappeared through a cloud. | 0:08:27 | 0:08:33
It passed the moon and stars, it whizzed around a distant planet, | 0:08:33 | 0:08:37
then fell back to earth, plunging back into the sea with a splash. | 0:08:37 | 0:08:42
"Never mind, Bluey," I said to the disappointed whale. | 0:08:42 | 0:08:46
Once again, the biscuit calmly bobbed alongside the Rainbow | 0:08:46 | 0:08:51
as if nothing had happened. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:52
Thelma the dragon joined us next. | 0:08:52 | 0:08:55
"I shall fly over the small biscuit, swoop down, | 0:08:55 | 0:08:58
"pick it up in my mouth. Easy-peasy!" | 0:08:58 | 0:09:01
Well, when Thelma approached the biscuit, | 0:09:01 | 0:09:06
fire billowed from her mouth. | 0:09:06 | 0:09:09
"Stop!" we all shouted. | 0:09:09 | 0:09:10
SALTY BARKS | 0:09:10 | 0:09:12
"You'll burn the biscuit!" | 0:09:12 | 0:09:14
In the nick of time, the dragon came to a halt. | 0:09:14 | 0:09:17
Like Charlie the big squid and Bluey the huge blue whale, | 0:09:17 | 0:09:22
Thelma the enormous dragon was upset | 0:09:22 | 0:09:27
that she couldn't rescue one little biscuit, | 0:09:27 | 0:09:31
and now it was floating away. | 0:09:31 | 0:09:34
"Follow that biscuit!" I yelled. | 0:09:34 | 0:09:38
Well, with Thelma sat on the Rainbow's funnel, | 0:09:38 | 0:09:42
Bluey rushing alongside, | 0:09:42 | 0:09:44
Salty, Charlie, the little crab and me on deck, | 0:09:44 | 0:09:48
we gave chase. | 0:09:48 | 0:09:50
Around the world we went, passing tropical islands | 0:09:50 | 0:09:53
and old pirate ships, until finally, finally, | 0:09:53 | 0:09:57
to our joy and delight, | 0:09:57 | 0:09:59
the biscuit was washed up on a rock. | 0:09:59 | 0:10:02
Salty thought it was time to mention | 0:10:02 | 0:10:05
that she was still quite peckish, | 0:10:05 | 0:10:07
so I dropped anchor close by | 0:10:07 | 0:10:11
and we tried to hatch a plan to save the biscuit. | 0:10:11 | 0:10:15
"I'll do it!" said Thelma the dragon. | 0:10:15 | 0:10:18
"No, leave it to me!" said Bluey the whale. | 0:10:18 | 0:10:21
"Nonsense, I'll do it," interrupted Charlie the squid. | 0:10:21 | 0:10:26
But when we turned back to look at the rock, | 0:10:26 | 0:10:29
to our utter astonishment, the biscuit had vanished! | 0:10:29 | 0:10:34
"Oh, no!" we cried, | 0:10:34 | 0:10:37
and then Salty noticed some bubbles in the water, | 0:10:37 | 0:10:40
and then the top of the biscuit. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:42
It was slowly rising out of the water nearby, | 0:10:42 | 0:10:46
and it was making its way towards us. | 0:10:46 | 0:10:49
And then, amazingly, it started climbing the Rainbow, | 0:10:49 | 0:10:53
and then it started walking towards us. | 0:10:53 | 0:10:58
Biscuits can't walk, can they? | 0:10:58 | 0:11:01
That's when I heard a tiny voice saying, | 0:11:01 | 0:11:04
"Excuse me. Coming through." | 0:11:04 | 0:11:08
It was the little crab! | 0:11:08 | 0:11:10
She was holding the biscuit in one of her claws. | 0:11:10 | 0:11:14
"My small claws are perfect for picking up small biscuits. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:18
"I tried to tell you," she said, as she passed the big squid, | 0:11:18 | 0:11:23
the huge whale and the enormous dragon. | 0:11:23 | 0:11:27
"Sometimes, being little is really useful." | 0:11:27 | 0:11:32
Everyone was very impressed that someone so small | 0:11:32 | 0:11:36
had managed to save the day. | 0:11:36 | 0:11:38
"It was easy-peasy, because I'm teeny-weeny," said the crab. | 0:11:38 | 0:11:43
Taking no chances, she handed the biscuit to Salty, | 0:11:44 | 0:11:49
who crunched it, munched it and licked her lips. | 0:11:49 | 0:11:54
It was the best biscuit ever. | 0:11:54 | 0:11:56
"Thank you," barked Salty. | 0:11:56 | 0:11:58
SALTY BARKS | 0:11:58 | 0:12:00
"Who'd have thought that such a tiny biscuit | 0:12:00 | 0:12:04
"could have caused such a huge fuss?" I said, | 0:12:04 | 0:12:07
as we sailed off for Staithes and home. | 0:12:07 | 0:12:11
Salty does love a biscuit, though. | 0:12:11 | 0:12:13
That was a good story, wasn't it, Salty? | 0:12:18 | 0:12:22
It's all true, of course. | 0:12:22 | 0:12:24
Oh, there's Miss Bowline-Hitch. | 0:12:24 | 0:12:26
Do you think she's found a prize | 0:12:26 | 0:12:28
to give to Ernie for all his hard work, do you? | 0:12:28 | 0:12:31
Ernie, I've prepared a little speech. | 0:12:35 | 0:12:39
It is with great pleasure that I make the award | 0:12:39 | 0:12:43
of Most Helpful Person of the Village... | 0:12:43 | 0:12:45
'scuse me, Miss B-H! | 0:12:45 | 0:12:48
..to Ernest Starboard, and in recognition of his good works, | 0:12:48 | 0:12:52
I present him with this... | 0:12:52 | 0:12:54
..trophy. | 0:12:55 | 0:12:57
Oops. | 0:12:58 | 0:12:59 | |
Oh, bother. | 0:13:01 | 0:13:02
There's a problem? | 0:13:02 | 0:13:04
We seem to have lost Ernie's trophy. | 0:13:04 | 0:13:06
-It fell into the sea. -Listen... | 0:13:06 | 0:13:10
-What about this? -SHE GASPS | 0:13:11 | 0:13:13
A rosette! Perfect! Oh, thank you, Jack! | 0:13:13 | 0:13:18
Yeah. Right. Come on, then. | 0:13:18 | 0:13:20
Ernie, I present you with this rosette for... | 0:13:22 | 0:13:27
..coming second in a biscuit-catching competition? | 0:13:28 | 0:13:31
Oh. THEY LAUGH | 0:13:31 | 0:13:34
-Sorry! I forgot all about that. -Oh, don't worry. | 0:13:34 | 0:13:37
I don't need a trophy or a rosette. | 0:13:37 | 0:13:39
I just think it's wonderful that all my friends appreciate me. | 0:13:39 | 0:13:43
Thank you, both! | 0:13:43 | 0:13:45
Thanks! All of you! | 0:13:45 | 0:13:48
Come on, Salty. Let's go home. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:51
Well done, Ernie! | 0:13:51 | 0:13:52
Hey-hey! | 0:13:52 | 0:13:54
