-Greetings, Emily. Lovely day. -Hello, Jack. Nice to see you, Salty. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:46
Now, then, how about some ice cream? | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
I've got a new flavour. You must try it. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:52
Sounds good. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
-Delivery, Emily! Hiya, Jack. -Hiya. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
Hello, Ernie. Do you want to try my new flavour, too? | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
Oh! | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02 | |
It's very handy being friends with an ice-cream lady, isn't it? | 0:02:02 | 0:02:06
Oh! Smells nice. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:07
Ooh-hoo-hoo! | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
It's chilly but it's hot, too. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
That was a bit of a shock. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
Oh, it's nice and icy and every so spicy! | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
That's because it's strawberry and hot chilli flavour! | 0:02:21 | 0:02:26
The hot chilli gives it a bit of a kick. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
-It does indeed, yes. Ooh! -Delicious! | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
It's funny, the customers don't seem to be interested. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
They all want vanilla. I haven't sold a single cone today. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:41
Listen, you need to give your new flavour a fancy name. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
Ooh, yeah, like Red Hot And Blobby Ice Cream. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
Nah, that sounds like an ice cream from outer space. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
Strawberry Fire Bomb! | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
Ooh, sounds dangerous to me. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
-I'm sure you'll come up with something. -I will. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
-Now, then, Ernie, where's that box? -Box? | 0:02:58 | 0:03:02
Oh, yes! It's right behind me. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
Ooh. Whoops! | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
GULL SQUAWKS | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
Ernie? | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
I'm fine. Here's your delivery. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
Oh, this will be the umbrellas I ordered. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
I might need them. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
You know what they say... | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
When a seagull stands in a water pail | 0:03:19 | 0:03:23
It might be rain, it might be hail. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
-Seagulls. -Seagulls. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
Oh! | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 | |
These aren't right! | 0:03:30 | 0:03:33
They're too little. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
What am I going to do with this lot? | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
I have never known you run out of ideas yet, Emily Scuttlebutt. | 0:03:37 | 0:03:41
Neither have I. Well, I'd best get back to my fish. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:45
Thanks for the ice cream. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
GULL SQUAWKS | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
-Bye, Ernie! -Yeah, Bye, Ernie! | 0:03:51 | 0:03:53
Yeah, we're off to the Rainbow but we'll see you on the way back | 0:03:53 | 0:03:57
-for another taste of that lovely ice cream. -Oh, good. | 0:03:57 | 0:04:01
-I've got tubs of the stuff. -Bye. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
SHE SIGHS | 0:04:04 | 0:04:05
There she is. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
The Rainbow. Well, what have you got for us today, my dear? | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
HORN BLOWS | 0:04:19 | 0:04:21
Hey! | 0:04:21 | 0:04:23 | |
Come on, Salty. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
HE HUMS | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
Here we are. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:28
Go on, then, go on your bed. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:39
Good girl. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:41
Oh, dear. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:42
HE LAUGHS | 0:04:42 | 0:04:44
I wonder what Emily's going to do with that delivery of umbrellas. | 0:04:44 | 0:04:48
We had trouble with a delivery once, didn't we? Do you remember? | 0:04:49 | 0:04:54
Ah, yes, Salty, this will make your ears stand on end. | 0:04:54 | 0:04:58
Right, once upon a twinkly time, the Rainbow set off from Staithes, | 0:04:58 | 0:05:03
waved goodbye to Whitby and disappeared | 0:05:03 | 0:05:06
over the horizon. | 0:05:06 | 0:05:09
# Just Salty Dog and me | 0:05:09 | 0:05:11
HORN BLOWS | 0:05:11 | 0:05:12
# Upon the briny sea | 0:05:12 | 0:05:13
HORN BLOWS | 0:05:13 | 0:05:15
# There's no other place we want to be | 0:05:15 | 0:05:17
# When the sun is shining constantly | 0:05:17 | 0:05:19
# We'll just sit and relax in our shades and sunhats | 0:05:19 | 0:05:23
# Just Salty Dog and me. # | 0:05:23 | 0:05:26
HORN BLOWS | 0:05:26 | 0:05:27
HE LAUGHS | 0:05:27 | 0:05:29
What we needed was a seaweed smoothie, | 0:05:29 | 0:05:32
but before I could pour us a glass, | 0:05:32 | 0:05:35
Salty spotted a tiny dot in the sky. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:39
"Something's coming!" she woofed. | 0:05:39 | 0:05:42
Well, the tiny dot grew larger as it moved towards us. | 0:05:42 | 0:05:47
"It's Brenda, the stork!" barked Salty. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:50
"And she's carrying a heavy bundle." | 0:05:50 | 0:05:54
Brenda was heading straight for us. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:57
And she looked all... All wibbly-wobbly. | 0:05:57 | 0:06:00
"You, down there! | 0:06:00 | 0:06:02
"Catch my bundle!" she cried. | 0:06:02 | 0:06:04
"I'm... I'm going to crash." | 0:06:04 | 0:06:06
"Quick, Salty!" I shouted. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:08
"Hold out your paws." | 0:06:08 | 0:06:10
Well, Salty stuck her paws out | 0:06:10 | 0:06:13
just in time to catch the bundle. | 0:06:13 | 0:06:15
And seconds later, Brenda... crashed onto the deck. | 0:06:15 | 0:06:19
Oh! | 0:06:19 | 0:06:20 | |
"Are you all right?" I asked. | 0:06:22 | 0:06:25
"No," she said, untangling her legs. | 0:06:25 | 0:06:28
"I'm on my way to Smoulder Island to make an urgent delivery, | 0:06:28 | 0:06:32
"but my bill's as dry as a desert and my wings have run out of flap." | 0:06:32 | 0:06:38
"What are you delivering?" I asked. | 0:06:38 | 0:06:40
"Can't tell you," said Brenda. | 0:06:40 | 0:06:43
"It's top-secret." | 0:06:43 | 0:06:45
"It must be a baby," I whispered in Salty's ear, | 0:06:45 | 0:06:50
"because I've heard people say that storks deliver babies | 0:06:50 | 0:06:54
"to their mothers." | 0:06:54 | 0:06:56
But Salty just rolled her eyes | 0:06:56 | 0:06:58
because she doesn't believe these old tales. | 0:06:58 | 0:07:02
"We can sail you to Smoulder Island with your bundle," I said. | 0:07:02 | 0:07:06
"And while we're on our way, you can have a rest." | 0:07:06 | 0:07:10
Well, we hadn't gone far | 0:07:10 | 0:07:12
when we saw a ship approaching. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
"Uh-oh! Looks like the Hurly-Burly," I said. | 0:07:16 | 0:07:21
Now, then, the Hurly-Burly is no ordinary ship. | 0:07:21 | 0:07:26
It belongs to Kitty Cutlass, | 0:07:26 | 0:07:29
the trickiest pirate to sail the seas. | 0:07:29 | 0:07:32
"Ahoy, Jack and Salty!" she cried. | 0:07:32 | 0:07:36
And she brought her ship up alongside. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:39
"Good to see you, me old diamonds," she said. | 0:07:39 | 0:07:43
"Can I share a seaweed smoothie?" | 0:07:43 | 0:07:47
And before we knew it, | 0:07:47 | 0:07:49
Kitty had jumped aboard. | 0:07:49 | 0:07:51
"Where are you heading?" she asked. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:55
"South," says I. "We are helping Brenda the stork | 0:07:55 | 0:07:59
"with an urgent delivery." | 0:07:59 | 0:08:01
Kitty eyed Brenda with interest. | 0:08:01 | 0:08:05
She eyed the bundle too and she thought she saw | 0:08:05 | 0:08:08
a glimmer of gold. | 0:08:08 | 0:08:10
Off I went to get the drinks, but I hadn't turned my back for a second | 0:08:12 | 0:08:16
when I heard Salty bark, "Stop!" | 0:08:16 | 0:08:19
Kitty Cutlass had gone. | 0:08:19 | 0:08:21
And she'd taken Brenda's bundle with her. | 0:08:21 | 0:08:24
"Bring back my bundle immediately!" cried Brenda, who had woken up. | 0:08:24 | 0:08:29
"This is outrageous!" | 0:08:29 | 0:08:31
"Chase her!" Salty yapped. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:33
So, we turned the Rainbow around and we made chase. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:38
Meanwhile, on board the Hurly-Burly, | 0:08:38 | 0:08:41
Kitty Cutlass had opened up the bundle | 0:08:41 | 0:08:45
and found a fabulous, glittery, egg-shaped thing inside. | 0:08:45 | 0:08:50
"Ha-ha! Treasure!" she cried joyfully. | 0:08:50 | 0:08:55
But suddenly, she heard a tapping sound. | 0:08:55 | 0:08:59
OLD JACK TAPS | 0:08:59 | 0:09:01
"What's that?" she wondered. | 0:09:01 | 0:09:03
It was coming from the treasure. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:07
She peered at it closely and she saw a crack. | 0:09:07 | 0:09:10
CRACKING | 0:09:10 | 0:09:11
And the crack grew larger and larger | 0:09:11 | 0:09:15
until the egg-shaped treasure | 0:09:15 | 0:09:17
suddenly burst open | 0:09:17 | 0:09:20
and, to Kitty's amazement, a scaly beast with leathery wings | 0:09:20 | 0:09:24
and a long tail forced its way out. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:27
It crumpled up its face, let out a sneeze... | 0:09:27 | 0:09:32
OLD JACK SNEEZES | 0:09:32 | 0:09:34
..and breathed out a wisp of smoke. | 0:09:34 | 0:09:37
"Tickle me dimples! It's a dragon!" cried Kitty. | 0:09:37 | 0:09:42
The baby dragon looked at Kitty lovingly. | 0:09:42 | 0:09:46
"Ah... | 0:09:46 | 0:09:48
"Mummy!" | 0:09:48 | 0:09:50
"I'm not your mummy. Shoo!" cried Kitty. | 0:09:50 | 0:09:54
And she looked around wildly and she saw our boat in the distance. | 0:09:54 | 0:10:00
"Help!" she cried. | 0:10:00 | 0:10:02
"Help!" | 0:10:02 | 0:10:04
Well, we raced to the Hurly-Burly and we jumped on board. | 0:10:04 | 0:10:08
"I-I'm in trouble!" Kitty cried. "I shouldn't have taken that bundle. | 0:10:08 | 0:10:12
"I thought it was treasure, but it was a dragon's egg." | 0:10:12 | 0:10:16
The baby dragon looked lovingly at Kitty, | 0:10:16 | 0:10:20
puffing fiery clouds of smoke. | 0:10:20 | 0:10:24
And then Salty sniffed the smoke | 0:10:24 | 0:10:28
and her whiskers whiffled. | 0:10:28 | 0:10:31
She was having one of her bright ideas. | 0:10:31 | 0:10:35
We all dashed back onto the Rainbow | 0:10:35 | 0:10:38
and she skittered to the engine room. | 0:10:38 | 0:10:40
Then she jumped up and pulled the puffer rope. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:45
HORN BLOWS | 0:10:45 | 0:10:46
Four large clouds of smoke puffed out of the ship's funnel. | 0:10:46 | 0:10:50
"Salty, you are a genius!" I cried, | 0:10:50 | 0:10:54
for she was sending a smoke signal to show the dragon's mummy | 0:10:54 | 0:10:59
where we were. | 0:10:59 | 0:11:01
"It's coming!" cried Kitty. "Look!" | 0:11:01 | 0:11:05
And sure enough, | 0:11:05 | 0:11:06
an enormous beast was flying towards us. | 0:11:06 | 0:11:09
It was Thelma, the dragon. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:12
She swooped down and she perched on the stern of the ship, | 0:11:12 | 0:11:16
making us dip dangerously low in the water. | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
Well, when it set eyes on the little dragon, it let out a powerful roar. | 0:11:19 | 0:11:25
"Baby!" it cried. | 0:11:25 | 0:11:28
The little dragon looked in amazement, | 0:11:28 | 0:11:31
first at the huge dragon and then at Kitty. | 0:11:31 | 0:11:34
"You see? I'm not your mummy. That's your mummy," said Kitty. | 0:11:34 | 0:11:41
Thelma blew out a heart-shaped puff of smoke | 0:11:41 | 0:11:46
which drifted towards the baby dragon. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:49
"Mmmmm! | 0:11:49 | 0:11:51
"Mummy!" | 0:11:51 | 0:11:53
squealed the baby dragon. | 0:11:53 | 0:11:55
And it leapt forward joyously | 0:11:55 | 0:11:58
and nuzzled its mum with its snout. | 0:11:58 | 0:12:02
Then with a huge whoosh | 0:12:02 | 0:12:04
they flew off to Smoulder Island. | 0:12:04 | 0:12:08
Ha-ha! | 0:12:08 | 0:12:09
"Ah, I think that's made us all a bit hot around the collar, | 0:12:09 | 0:12:13
"hasn't it, Salty?" I said. "But don't worry, | 0:12:13 | 0:12:16
"I think a seaweed smoothie will cool us all down." | 0:12:16 | 0:12:20
So we sipped our drinks as the sun dipped low. | 0:12:20 | 0:12:25
HORN BLOWS | 0:12:25 | 0:12:27
And with that, we sailed off to Staithes and home. | 0:12:27 | 0:12:32
HORN BLOWS | 0:12:32 | 0:12:33
Did you like that story, Salty? | 0:12:38 | 0:12:40
Yeah? All true, of course. | 0:12:40 | 0:12:43
Mind you, my stories always are! | 0:12:43 | 0:12:46
Come on, girl. | 0:12:46 | 0:12:48
Hello, Emily, my dearest. | 0:12:57 | 0:12:59
I've just come for my strawberry and chilli ice cream. | 0:12:59 | 0:13:03
-How has it been selling? -Almost run out! -Really? | 0:13:03 | 0:13:06
-I've had queues all morning. -Right. | 0:13:06 | 0:13:09
I've been so busy. | 0:13:09 | 0:13:11
-Ha! Really? -Yes. Unbelievable. | 0:13:11 | 0:13:14
-You see, I thought up a fancy name like you said. -Yes. | 0:13:14 | 0:13:17
-And it's been a huge hit. -Wonderful, wonderful. | 0:13:17 | 0:13:21
But don't worry. I've remembered to save the last cone for you. | 0:13:21 | 0:13:25
Lovely! | 0:13:25 | 0:13:26
HE LAUGHS | 0:13:26 | 0:13:28
Here we are, Jack. | 0:13:28 | 0:13:30
Your very own Smoulder Boulder! | 0:13:30 | 0:13:34
Smoulder Boulder! What a good name! | 0:13:34 | 0:13:36
I knew you'd find a use for the little umbrellas as well. | 0:13:36 | 0:13:40
Yes, it wasn't such a bad delivery after all! | 0:13:40 | 0:13:43
You know, that is delicious! | 0:13:43 | 0:13:45
-GULL SQUAWKS -Uh-oh. | 0:13:45 | 0:13:47
Oh... | 0:13:47 | 0:13:48 | |
Weather's turning. I'd better pack up. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:51
We'll be on our way as well. Come on, Salty. Thanks, Em! Goodbye! | 0:13:51 | 0:13:55
Bye, Jack! | 0:13:55 | 0:13:56
