Hello, Shelly! Busy as usual, I see. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
Hello, you two. I'm just finishing off my latest creation. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
It's a summer fruits mousse. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:48
That looks delicious. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
Hello, Salty, what have you got there? | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
Ah, it's her favourite ball. She wanted to bring it out to play. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
-I used to be a really good thrower - best in my school. -Really? | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
Right - here goes! | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
-Fetch! -Look at that! | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
Oh! Crumbs! | 0:02:08 | 0:02:09
Oh! Oh, hello, Salty! | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
This is a nice ball. What? Do you want me to throw it for you? OK. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:30
GULL SQUAWKS | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
Oh! RINGS BELL | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
Watch out for the mousse! | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
-Oh! -Aw! | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
Oh, dear! My summer mousse has turned into a big blobby mess. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:54
-I'm sorry, Shelly. -Don't worry, Salty, it's not your fault. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
-No, no, well... -I'm sure I can do something with it. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
I just don't know what yet. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
We'd better get out of the way. We've caused enough trouble. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:05
Come on, Salty, we'll get back to the Rainbow. Bye-bye, Shelly. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:09
Bye, Jack. | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10
There she is! The Rainbow. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
What've you got for us today, m'dear? | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
RAINBOW HOOTS | 0:03:24 | 0:03:26
Hey! come on, Salty. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
HE HUMS | 0:03:29 | 0:03:31
Here we are. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
There we go, go on, in your bed. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
That's it, you curl up in there with that ball of yours. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:46
Ohhh! The last time we played with that ball, it got us into trouble. | 0:03:46 | 0:03:51
Do you remember? | 0:03:51 | 0:03:52
-I do! -HE CHUCKLES | 0:03:52 | 0:03:54
Let me get comfortable, and I'll tell you the story. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:59
Once upon a twinkly time, we set off from Staithes, | 0:03:59 | 0:04:03
waved goodbye to Whitby | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
and disappeared over the horizon. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:09
And as we sailed, we played ball. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
Ha, ha! And we sang. Way! | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
# Just Salty Dog and me | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
# Upon the briny sea | 0:04:17 | 0:04:19
# Making the most of the cloudless skies | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
# Taking a wee bit of exercise | 0:04:22 | 0:04:24
# We're bending and stretching and throwing and fetching | 0:04:24 | 0:04:27
# Just Salty Dog and me. # | 0:04:27 | 0:04:30
Ha! So there we were, happily playing ball when who should we see | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
approaching but Kitty Cutlass, the trickiest pirate to sail the seas. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:40
We asked her if she wanted to play and threw her Salty's ball. | 0:04:40 | 0:04:45
"No," said Kitty, "I hate playing ball!" | 0:04:45 | 0:04:49
And the cheeky pirate tossed Salty's ball into the sea! | 0:04:49 | 0:04:54
"Raaaaaarrrrh!" whined Salty, while we ran to the edge of the boat | 0:04:54 | 0:04:58
and we looked down, but there was no sign of Salty's ball. | 0:04:58 | 0:05:02
As Salty and I stared at the waves, | 0:05:02 | 0:05:05
up it popped on the crown of the oddest-looking fish I'd ever seen! | 0:05:05 | 0:05:11
It was like a big strawberry mousse, | 0:05:11 | 0:05:14
with eyes! | 0:05:14 | 0:05:16
"Hello, I am a blob fish. Is that your ball?" it asked. | 0:05:16 | 0:05:21
"Yes," we said. And we thanked the blob fish for rescuing it. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:26
"Ohhh, please don't thank me. | 0:05:26 | 0:05:28
"All blob fish love playing ball. | 0:05:28 | 0:05:32
"It's our favourite thing in the world. Here, you have it back." | 0:05:32 | 0:05:36
And the blob fish flipped the ball into the air, high over the boat | 0:05:36 | 0:05:41
and Salty caught it in her mouth. | 0:05:41 | 0:05:43
"Nice catch," said the blob fish. | 0:05:43 | 0:05:46
Well, after that, Salty and the blob fish played catch for hours. | 0:05:46 | 0:05:50
The blob fish had the time of his life. | 0:05:50 | 0:05:54
Eventually, they stopped when Salty started to worry about hot paws. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:59
"That was brilliant," said the blob fish. | 0:05:59 | 0:06:03
"I've never had so much fun. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:05
I'm all alone at the moment, | 0:06:05 | 0:06:07
"and you can't play ball easily when you're alone." | 0:06:07 | 0:06:11
I asked where all the other blob fish were. | 0:06:11 | 0:06:14
"They've gone on holiday, but I'm the prince of blob fish | 0:06:14 | 0:06:19
"so I have to stay here and look after my palace. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:22
"If I had a princess to marry, | 0:06:22 | 0:06:24
"I could play ball at home all the time, but I don't," | 0:06:24 | 0:06:27
he said sadly. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:29
Well, Salty liked the idea of seeing his palace, even if | 0:06:29 | 0:06:34
we couldn't provide a princess. | 0:06:34 | 0:06:38
"Oh great, come with me to the bottom of the sea | 0:06:38 | 0:06:41
"and I'll show you my kingdom," said the blob fish. | 0:06:41 | 0:06:45
"I'm coming too," said Kitty. | 0:06:45 | 0:06:47
So, before you could say "galloping seahorses", we were under the waves. | 0:06:47 | 0:06:53
After a long walk, | 0:06:53 | 0:06:55
we eventually came to the blob fish prince's palace. | 0:06:55 | 0:06:57
Oh, it was very beautiful. | 0:06:57 | 0:07:01
There was a huge table, all set out with silver cups and plates. | 0:07:01 | 0:07:06
"Let's have another game of ball," said the blob fish. | 0:07:06 | 0:07:09
"Then we can eat jam tarts." | 0:07:09 | 0:07:12
"Forget about playing ball, let's just eat!" said Kitty. | 0:07:12 | 0:07:16
So, the blob fish blew magical bubbles over the table | 0:07:16 | 0:07:22
and piles and piles of jam tarts appeared! | 0:07:22 | 0:07:25
"Did you see how the snacks appeared out of nowhere?" said Kitty, | 0:07:25 | 0:07:31
grabbing the jam tarts and scoffing them rather rudely. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:33
"I think that blob fish is a magic fish. I bet if you kiss it, Salty, | 0:07:33 | 0:07:38
"he will turn into a handsome prince who will give you lots of jewels." | 0:07:38 | 0:07:42
"I am not a blob-fish-kissing sort of dog," said Salty. | 0:07:42 | 0:07:46
"You kiss him!" "All right," said Kitty, | 0:07:46 | 0:07:49
who was dreaming of jewels and palaces. | 0:07:49 | 0:07:53
So before the blob fish could say, "Ugh, get off me!" | 0:07:53 | 0:07:58
she gave him a huge sloppy kiss. | 0:07:58 | 0:08:01
And suddenly there was a "kerpow!" | 0:08:01 | 0:08:05
When the bubbles had cleared, Kitty was gone. | 0:08:05 | 0:08:09
Instead, there were two blob fish and one was wearing a pirate hat! | 0:08:09 | 0:08:15
Kitty Cutlass had turned into a blob fish. | 0:08:15 | 0:08:19
"Oh, dear," the blob fish groaned, | 0:08:19 | 0:08:21
"Now that you've kissed me, you have to marry me and be my princess. | 0:08:21 | 0:08:27
"I was hoping I'd get a princess who wanted to play ball, | 0:08:27 | 0:08:32
"but not a jam-tart-scoffing pirate." | 0:08:32 | 0:08:35
Kitty wasn't pleased either. | 0:08:35 | 0:08:37
"Help me," she whispered. | 0:08:37 | 0:08:40
"I don't want to be a princess blob fish and I don't want to play ball." | 0:08:40 | 0:08:44
"There's only one way to break the spell," said the blob fish. | 0:08:44 | 0:08:47
"Someone else must kiss me, promise to marry me and become my princess." | 0:08:47 | 0:08:53
So, Salty and I decided to go and find a princess for the blob fish. | 0:08:53 | 0:08:59
"Make it quick!" cried Kitty. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:03
"Would you like to play ball?" asked the blob fish. | 0:09:03 | 0:09:06
"Not really," Kitty sighed. | 0:09:06 | 0:09:09
But what else could she do? | 0:09:09 | 0:09:11
She was a blob fish now and blob fish love playing ball. | 0:09:11 | 0:09:15
Meanwhile, Salty and I wandered around thinking of how we'd find | 0:09:15 | 0:09:18
a princess for the blob fish. | 0:09:18 | 0:09:23
Suddenly, Salty's whiskers started to wobble. | 0:09:23 | 0:09:28
She was having one of her bright ideas. | 0:09:28 | 0:09:31
She scampered back to the palace, where Kitty | 0:09:31 | 0:09:33
and Prince Blob Fish were sat with grumpy expressions. | 0:09:33 | 0:09:37
"I'm not playing any more," said Kitty. | 0:09:37 | 0:09:39
"I don't want a princess who won't play ball," said Prince Blob Fish. | 0:09:39 | 0:09:44
"But Salty's had an idea," I said. "Come on!" | 0:09:44 | 0:09:47
So, Salty led us all back to the Rainbow. | 0:09:47 | 0:09:51
Kitty and the blob fish waited in the waves | 0:09:51 | 0:09:54
while Salty and I went on deck. | 0:09:54 | 0:09:56
Now Salty ran and fetched her ball. | 0:09:56 | 0:10:00
"This is no time to play ball!" I said. | 0:10:00 | 0:10:03
But Salty, she then did a very clever thing... | 0:10:03 | 0:10:06
She tossed the ball into the Rainbow's funnel, | 0:10:06 | 0:10:10
pulled the steam whistle's string | 0:10:10 | 0:10:12
and with an enormous "pop-pop", the ball shot up high into the sky. | 0:10:12 | 0:10:18
It went so high everybody could see it for miles around. | 0:10:18 | 0:10:22
And far away, out at sea, | 0:10:22 | 0:10:25
who do you think saw it? | 0:10:25 | 0:10:27
Yes, it was another blob fish. | 0:10:27 | 0:10:30
She came rushing over. | 0:10:30 | 0:10:32
"You are a very clever dog, Salty," I said, | 0:10:32 | 0:10:35
"you remembered that a blob fish can't resist a ball." | 0:10:35 | 0:10:40
"Hello, you're lovely," said Prince Blob Fish. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:45
"Will you be my princess and play ball with me?" | 0:10:45 | 0:10:48
"Yes, please," said the new blob fish. | 0:10:48 | 0:10:52
She was so excited, she gave Prince Blob Fish a kiss. | 0:10:52 | 0:10:56
There was an enormous "kerpow". | 0:10:58 | 0:11:01
And the spell was broken. | 0:11:02 | 0:11:05
Suddenly, Kitty Cutlass was beside us again! | 0:11:05 | 0:11:09
"Thank you for finding me such a lovely princess," | 0:11:09 | 0:11:14
cried Prince Blob Fish. | 0:11:14 | 0:11:16
"And thank you for finding me such a lovely prince!" | 0:11:16 | 0:11:19
cried Princess Blob Fish. | 0:11:19 | 0:11:21
And they disappeared into the waves | 0:11:21 | 0:11:24
to play ball together. | 0:11:24 | 0:11:27
"You are a hero for saving me, Salty," said Kitty. | 0:11:27 | 0:11:31
She was just about to give Salty a kiss but she stopped. | 0:11:31 | 0:11:35
"I'll be careful with my kisses in future," she said. | 0:11:35 | 0:11:39
We all chuckled. | 0:11:39 | 0:11:41
I said, "I think that's enough excitement for one day!" | 0:11:41 | 0:11:46
So we set our course for Staithes and home. | 0:11:46 | 0:11:50
Ha! Made a lovely couple, those blob fish, you know. | 0:11:50 | 0:11:54
Yeah, we've been invited to the wedding. | 0:11:54 | 0:11:57
Hm... More jam tarts. | 0:11:57 | 0:11:59
Did you like that story, Salty? | 0:12:08 | 0:12:10
Yeah? All true, of course. | 0:12:10 | 0:12:13
Mind you, my stories always are. | 0:12:13 | 0:12:15
HE CHUCKLES | 0:12:15 | 0:12:17
Oh, look! | 0:12:17 | 0:12:19
See them? | 0:12:19 | 0:12:21
Come on. | 0:12:22 | 0:12:24
Here you are then, one last throw. Are you ready? | 0:12:33 | 0:12:35
I've got it here. Ready? | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
Go on then! | 0:12:37 | 0:12:39
SALTY BARKS GULL SQUAWKS | 0:12:39 | 0:12:41
It's all right, Mr Seagull, it's just a ball. | 0:12:41 | 0:12:45
Hello, Salty. Is this yours? | 0:12:50 | 0:12:53
Sorry about that, M. | 0:12:53 | 0:12:56
Hello, Jack, don't you fret. | 0:12:56 | 0:12:58
-Here, try my latest creation. -What's that? | 0:12:58 | 0:13:03
Actually, it's a joint effort. | 0:13:03 | 0:13:05
-With Shelly. -Oh, yeah. | 0:13:05 | 0:13:07
Yes, one Strawberry Blobby. | 0:13:07 | 0:13:12
-It's the latest in ice lollies. -Oh, yeah, ta. | 0:13:12 | 0:13:16
Shelly did find a use for that blobby mess we made! | 0:13:16 | 0:13:20
Oh, I like that! | 0:13:20 | 0:13:21
Ha-ha, I think you and Shelly are on to something here. | 0:13:21 | 0:13:24
Oh! I knew you two would come up with something clever | 0:13:24 | 0:13:28
after all that mess we made. | 0:13:28 | 0:13:30
We always do, Jack. We always do. | 0:13:30 | 0:13:33
Here you are, Salty. | 0:13:35 | 0:13:36
