Meet Helena Smith,

an energetic, friendly, lively 12-year-old from Stockport.

Helena lives with her mum Karen, dad Steve, brother Craig...

..and two goldfish, Sparkle and Bubble.

She loves acting and singing.

And here she is in her local drama group in Bugsy Malone.

The targets of Helena's prank are her unsuspecting three friends,

Emily...

Jenny...

and Melissa.

The girls do everything together and tell each other everything -

well, that's what Emily, Jenny and Melissa think.

So we're talking about pranking.

We're going to do it big style.

-Have you got any pranking experience?

-Not really.

Just little pranks on each other. Just me and my friends.

They're always scaring me. They've got this thing about me -

they think I'm frightened of things so they're always taking the mick,

-so finally it's my turn.

-What do they do to you?

On Emily's birthday sleepover,

they locked me in the bathroom for about half an hour.

It was so dark and they kept making all these noises.

-I was really freaked out.

-Why do you need our help?

I want this to be a big-scale prank and I can't do it on my own, can I?

Melissa, Emily and Jenny. They scare you. Let's scare them back.

-What's associated with scaring? Ghosts...

-Yeah.

-They're scary.

-My nan, very scary. Skeletons...

-Eerie noises.

How are we going to get your mates into a haunted house?

When they're there, they're going to meet ghosts...

it's going to be very dark, lots of noises... I'm loving this.

-What do ghosts wear in the rain?

-I don't know.

Helena will have her work cut out. But she is such a good actress,

I think she'll have a good chance.

So this is Prank HQ.

There's loads of different departments, lots of specialists -

equipment, props, make-up, costume. Anything you need is right here.

First we're going to meet Andy - he's a Prank Patrol actor.

-You all right, man?

-Hi.

-How are you?

-I'm fine.

-Tell him what you want.

-I need you to be a tour guide

and you have to act really freaky

because it's a haunted house so you have to scare my friends, OK?

-Yeah, just like that.

-What?

-You didn't do a scary face?

Moving onwards... Nice one. Cheers for that, mate.

You've already met Darren and Lee. So let's start with Darren first.

To make my friends believe this house is haunted, I need a ghost.

We could build a false wall inside the house with a mirror in it,

so they'll see their reflections,

but then we'll put a UV light behind it, so when we switch the light on

they can see Darren's mask, like a ghost behind the mirror.

-So you'll make it come to life.

-Yeah.

-Like it. Thanks for that.

-We'll see you in a bit. Sounds great, doesn't it?

-Yeah.

If you have a friend who gets a kick out of scaring you

and you want to get them back, here's what you do.

Invite them to sleep over at your house

and then later, when they're asleep, sneak off to the bathroom.

Borrow some of Mum's make-up - make sure you ask first -

and make your face up to look like an insane clown.

EVIL LAUGHTER

Then put your new clown face close to your friend, switch on a torch

under your chin, and give your friend a nudge to wake her up.

When your friend sees your face,

she'll wish she was still dreaming.

So how do you want this old haggard ghost Lady Bramall person to look?

I've got it.

Hey, Mum, it's me. We finished a bit early. Can you come and get me?

An unsuspecting mum is roped into who knows what for Prank Patrol.

She gets her face covered in mush, but not just any old mush.

It's alginate, which dentists use to make gum shields.

And out pops her face like a cork.

I've taken a face cast

and I'm sculpting the ghostly face on top of that.

I'll do a mould, produce it in latex

and paint it up with UV colours to make it stand out under the lighting.

Darren and I helped to make a latex mask for the Lady Bramall character,

which involved putting purple goo all over my face, but it was exciting.

Hasn't Helena's mum got the best sense of humour ever?

To sit there and have her face cast by Darren

and for him to make adjustments - let's call them adjustments -

the huge crow-like nose, the big eyebrows, the huge chin.

She knows that's based on her face,

but she's much prettier in real life.

She's done a brilliant job getting involved, which is what we like.

I'm really excited about my mum being involved. I think she is too.

It's new. I've never done anything like this.

I'll give it a go. It's an experience for Helena and her friends.

It'll be great.

I think you should call me Bernard.

So when we paint the mask in the UV paints, they'll glow in the dark,

-like his white T-shirt.

-Nice, innit? Just like my eyeballs!

'I've got roped in too.' Ninjas, I might need some help!

Here's your chance with today's recipe.

You need a tape recorder, a blank tape and some scary creativity.

Fast-forward your blank tape a good 15-20 minutes,

so there'll be nothing but silence for the first half of your tape.

Then record some creepy noises, the sounds in any good horror movie.

Waaaagh!

If you want to get all hi-tech, you can do the same stuff on your PC.

Next, hide your player near your victim but out of sight.

Press play and quietly slip away.

Then when your victim is all alone,

strange noises will seem to come from nowhere.

Aaaagh!

If all goes well,

your victim should have an experience that's out of this world!

SMASH!

OK, the tour's about to start.

I'd like to point out that no-one has ever had a private guided tour.

So you must be very honoured first and foremost.

In fact, no-one's been in Bramall Hall alone

other than myself and my assistant at times so just to let you know.

We'll start the tour here in the grand hall.

This would have been the hub of the household in the Middle Ages.

And this table is where Lord and Lady Bramall would have dined

and had many a splendid evening until...

it happened.

Now, have you heard any tales of Lord and Lady Bramall before?

Lord Bramall was a knight, he died in battle.

He was a very brave man who gave his life for his land

and his beliefs. He was a wonderful man.

The prank went great. The reaction of the girls was just brilliant!

I didn't think Barney'd be that scary, but it was great.

Emily ran out of the room screaming!

When I saw the ghost, I was...getting a bit scared.

Andy did a good job with his glares.

His piercing eyes made it a lot more scary.

The prank couldn't have gone better. Andy's stare unnerved the girls.

Emily was totally buying into it. When I roared, she legged it!

The girls were taken aback when they saw me.

When the knight came into view, things kicked off.

I screamed and ran out the room.

When Barney came out in shiny armour, it scared me so much!

I didn't expect them to run away like that.

Emily was outside the building!

I think the girls will get Helena back.

- I'm gonna get Helena back. - I'm gonna get her back.

I'm gonna get Helena back real bad!

I'm worried about them getting me back. They have promised to do it.
